Why is every sneaker in probably the last 10 years made like shit?
Every damn time, within 6 months to 1 year either the sole delaminates or I end up wearing down a hole into it, just from walking.
    >>
    >>18779074
Honestly? Onitsuka Tigers are good, but I think they’re somewhat overrated if you judge them as a sneaker rather than a fashion item.

The Mexico 66 is basically a style-first shoe. Its biggest strengths are the silhouette, light weight, and distinctive Japanese-retro look—not cushioning, support, or durability. Recent reviews consistently flag the thin sole and narrow fit as its main weaknesses.

    My honest verdict
Not overrated aesthetically. Somewhat overrated functionally.

If you look at a Mexico 66 and think "damn, that silhouette is exactly what I want" — buy it. There isn't really a substitute that gives you precisely the same look.

But if you're thinking "I want a $100–150 everyday sneaker; is this the objectively best shoe?" — absolutely not. There are better shoes for comfort, durability, and value.

c 85 vintage is a superior sneaker comfort wise, can't speak on the revenge but I have a pair of 85 vintage and regulars and the vintage feels plush on the foot even after a few years of wear. the base 85 has lasted a long time with daily wear and high mileage however.

    >>
    >>18781543
There just hasn't seemed to be anything that was a definitive tide mark for the era. The 00s were pretty well marked because of things like the technology and media of the time, but the 10s is when things really seemed to just slow down or outright stop. The start of the 10s is when the trend of Marvel movies went into maximum and you can even see the stats on how original movies tapered off and Marvel sequels just takeover completely.
    >>
    >>18781433
oh and old skools were also huge at the time and theyre not rly a thing now
    >>18781545
depends what you mean even the 90s had different things defining it, from the internet to music to movies which are in a way independent. i guess tv/movies did get a slump in the 2010s and it was downhill from there. there are some gemmies from that era imo, mr robot, boardwalk empire, true detective season 1. as for movies idk its been mostly dogshit i just watched bladerunner and liked it but thats about it. music changed a lot from the early 2010s to late 2010s, it went from mostly dubstep to trap both which are long dead by now
    >>
    >>18781546
Sure, I'm not saying there weren't good pieces of media during the time, but they weren't definitive of the time period. There's nothing about True Detective that makes it feel like a piece of 10s media, it could easily be thought of as being made today (S1 was absolute kino btw and I don't mean this as a negative).

But when you watch something like Dawson's Creek or the first dozen seasons of The Simpsons, you can instantly tell the decade they're from.

    >as for movies idk its been mostly dogshit i just watched bladerunner and liked it but thats about it.
2049? As a fan of the original movie and the book, I hated it, it completely missed the point and it was shameful. It was visually excellent but the story was garbage.

I disagree. i cant see the show being made in the 2000s or 2020s. what do you mean definitive of the time period exactly? i could look at it and tell from a glance its from the 2010s

When I was growing up only old fat men and poor kids worse shoes like this. You would be bullied and laughed at in the 00s.

Ive learnt there were early 2000s tech runners but those were marketed as gym shoes to fashionable white collar workers.

I think thats the trend rn. The zoomie gurls on tiktok are all wearing 9060s this year and seeing big reductions on pretty good colour-ways.

After global recession happened the wave of hip-hop culture tribalised the world to tn’s and basketball shoes. Being public schooled during the height of racial equality probably left that impression on you.

It's also hard for me to get over how uncool the brand was when I was growing up. I still look down on anybody that wears shoes with that huge ugly N on the side, it's in the same category as Skechers to me.

ACS PRO or XT-EVOs (pic rel)

Would be all-black colorway both ways

I like the form of the XT-EVO slightly more and it seems like it would be the more versatile all-season choice, but the mesh and overall construction have me a little dubious about the durability. Plus I'm not sure how much I actually like it and how much is just hype.

The ACS PRO meanwhile seems like it can survive a bomb going off, and looks sturdy and aggressive. But is it too much for just walking around cities? I'm not gonna be hiking in this shit.

    Thoughts?

For no reason at all, 2018 chunky sneakers will be trending again.

For the few anons that know their shit in this general, I need some reccs. I've been looking for an interesing/weird, low profile, gorpy, laceless, ideally waterproof/resistant sneaker. Came across these puma beisser disk which almost fit the bill and I like the colorway but the price and the lack of water protection are holding me back. Anything similar you can recc?

    Have you tried Salomon before?
They run narrow and are designed for stability over comfort.
