    I don't own any Gokkun-Shock yet.
Got my first Casio, aWS1600H8AV. I really dig the tachometer-style graphics on top. Turns out it uses a module that belongs to a 2000's watch made specifically for soccer referees.
This is my first Casio after decades. Used to have a F91w on 3rd grade or so.
I'd have prefered the standard grey bezel model, but it was a gift.
    >>
    >>18734146
Neat, damn. I was eying an F91W in silver, and it seems it'd look sick with that same NATO strap and silver buckles instead of gold.
Got this bad boy (picrel) stuck at customs, as well. I really needed a stopwatch with higher capacity, since the ws1600h only goes up to 60 or 90 minutes.
Will mod the shit out of both watches by erasing unnecessary lettering, and will apply gel filter mods to both. I just don't know what colors I'll use.
I don't even recall where I got this recent Casio autism from. Fuck.

It's resin rot and cannot be stopped. There was someone in Brazil who made repro bezels and straps for more obscure models, but I don't know if they're still in business. There are hundreds of models for which Casio has discontinued parts.
    >>
    >>18734859
    :(
One small push and the whole bezel will be flying off. She's yearning for the bin but I would like to save it if there are decent repro bezels. Do you know the name of the guy?

I really like the black steel look but I wonder if it's simply inferior to the resin model. Not only will it scratch a lot easier but the steel could get corroded.

I think we have just seen a LOT of photographic proof that plastic G-Shocks can totally fall apart over time. I'm quite sure people aren't having rusted out metal cases.
    >>
    >>18735122
Yeah the timing was a bit funny with the photos above me. Though resin can still last practically indefinitely when not exposed to the elements so the half metal g shocks really seem like the best of both worlds. You don't get to pay more than twice the amount for the full metal model, and you get the protection and longevity of steel while the resin parts on the inside remain in pristine condition, untouched by the elements.

Nice color coded collection. Do you notice major differences between your T80's and small Casio watches? Which do you prefer? I only have one Timex but the T80 design looks nice.
    >>
    >>18743017
realistically, there's not too much difference between the T80s and the vintage Illuminators, although I tended to gravitate more toward the Illuminators simply because the band is much simpler; the Calculator watch was my daily driver for a while because of how often I was working in the hospitals but it got retired after I got my Apple Watch and just wore that to work instead. I wore the Claculator so much the rubber straps broke (extremely common) and at the time, new bands were $10 and a new watch was $15, so I just opted to replace the entire watch. Kinda surprised and frustrated at how expensive these cheap Casio watches are considering I remember getting the small ones for maybe like $20-30 a piece with the gold versions being maybe an extra $10-20, but looking them up recently out of sheer curiousity: some of them are going for almost and easily double that

The small Casio's are nice because they realistically go with any casual/summery outfit and are super light so they make excellent lowkey wears in the heat. The T80s I typically wore for more business casual summer events since the band has a little more design to it (which is typically why I almost never wore the black one) but if you'd have to recommend between the two designs and could only pick one: I'd go for the Illuminators because they are just SLIGHTLY more versatile: although you can't really go wrong with either of them

other than that; it's simple, and it's humble: so I'm pretty happy with my little "vintage" collection. I remember gifting my brother and a few friends some T80s at Christmas/birthdays/etc when they were cheaper and everyone was relatively happy with them as they realistically look like, and did the heavy-lifting of, a more traditional/expensive watch
    >>
    >>18743026
Yeah, prices have been creeping up. Small quartz watches are nice, I always take for granted how versatile they are in terms of wearablility considering their size and aesthetic design. Thanks for your input.

I remember looking at g-shocks as a kid in the 90s. Is there seriously no serious competitor for the core customer base (blue collar workers with broken biological clocks) by now?
    >>
Is there a point in getting the multiband gshock if I don't live within range of any of the radio frequencies? I mostly just want the solar charging but not sure if it's worth to pay $50 more for that over the basic gshock without the bells and whistles
    >>
    >>18745180
Unless you're some tacticool operator needing to time stuff with your team by the second, I think a regular quartz will be perfectly adequate
    >>
    >>18745180
None, unless you need the bluetooth to sync the second with your phone.
Your phone is always with you as a standalone device for accurate time, even without a watch.
The wrist watch just serves as a faster way to tell the estimated time at a glance when you don't want to check your phone.
    >>
    >>18745197
    >your phone

Yes, because I carry a telephone with me everywhere, just like EVERYONE else.

If I had another way to tell the time I wouldn't need a watch.

I have the bluetooth Casioak with the same metal bezel and the same strap as in the picture. I got it to replace the normal resin Casioak because the resin bezel loosened and it got more difficult to press any buttons.
No such issues with the metal bezel. There are hairline scratches all over but I think it adds character, Gshocks should not be babied.

Test one before you buy. But I would avoid negative regular ones especially if that will be my only watch, with a few exceptions.
    - I'll DIY change the polarized film inside to make it a positive display if I get tired of the display.
    - If the watch has a nice, aesthetic faceplate or dial that I really like.
    - Is on clearance sale.

Do you think the multiband watch is more exposed to radio waves than other watches because it has an antenna in it? Everything you own is bathed in radio waves every day. And they get even more EMF from nearby appliances than they do from the radio.

I wore one of mine on the inside of my wrist and cracked it doing a parkour wall climb, which is what sold me on the raised bezel of the G-SHOCK. The straps are notoriously for breaking so I replace mine with NATO/Zulu straps but the F-84W is better for this. I still like the F-91W/F-84W as less-bulky, lighter-duty alternatives to my G-SHOCKS.

Crystal and G-Shock is the worst combination possible.
Acrylic and mineral glass gets scratches but doesn't break until it does, and when it does it's cheap to replace. Crystal glass CAN break and it's expensive to replace. There's no use for a brittle scratch- resistant material in a beater watch.
    >>
    >>18777435
G-Shock has used sapphire for a long time now. It's scratch resistant, durable, and cheap to replace. It looks like a multi-part design so it should be good. They test them to make sure they are shock resistant. It still has the G-Shock resistance.

If it's a G-Shock it will have to pass the same drop tests as their other watches. It will be the cheapest and most durable sapphire watch case on the market.

I went to the mall for an early birthday gift to myself expecting to buy a full metal square (GMWB5000D-1C) and saw that they had the new Gravitymaster. I tried it on out of curiosity and instantly fell in love with it. It wears very low-profile, it's lightweight, has a sapphire crystal, solar-powered, and has analog hands for everything. I've been wearing it for a few days now and it's worth checking out if you get the chance to see it!

Even the classic digital F-91/A168/... could work normally after being submerged, as long as you don't play with the buttons.
I remember a watch forum where somebody run an experiment to find out when the cheap Casio gets destroyed by water. No accidental splash or submerging could do it.
My own AW80-1av got in a water stream once for about 10 seconds and it didn't do a thing.
