There wasn't anything good on American TV whatsoever until the Simpsons. That's partly why boomers are so retarded, TV was a psyop to retard the population

    >You wake up. It's a Saturday in 1988.
I go out, steal the emergency money my grandmother kept in her hatbox and buy 10,000 shares of United Health Group stock. If you time the sale right (end of 2024) between dividends and splits you'd rake in $250-300M.

Disney Channel was pay cable until 1999 and didn't show cartoons 24-7. It was 95% live action.

Nickelodeon in the 1980s was half live action and half cartoon and in particular, Nick LOVED spamming live action Dennis the Menace and Mr Ed and YCDTOTV and that was just during daytime (at night it was 100% sitcom reruns).

the three games you have because you can't download full ROM sets in 1988
    >>
    >>156135169
There were three different networks Saturday morning cartoon blocks and it was a time honored thing to flip back and forth between the three networks. Let alone record certain shows while watching another if you were rich enough to own a VCR and blank tapes.

I guarantee you people did other stuff than just watch cartoons all day. like looking at the comics in the paper

    >Pro wrestling, old Sherlock Holmes and Frankenstein movies.
Gotta love those old indie channels.

I miss when TVs were giant wooden pieces of furniture and didn't listen to every conversation in your house and leaks your info to hundreds of companies and probably the government.
    >>
    >>156136112
That's still 36 years to make that much money. I'd get into dotcom boom shares in the 90s (and exit before the crash), then Apple/Amazon/Google in early 00s, generate a metric fuckton of bitcoin in 2008/9 back before GPU miners (you could solo mine full blocks back then on CPU), maybe get into AMD shares in 2014, Nvidia and Micron in 2020.
    >>
this made Saturday mornings worth getting up for in 90s
    >>
Didn't they already have Transformers, GI Joe, and TMNT by 1988?
    >>
    >>156139233
    Transformers was 1984.
    GI Joe was 1983.
    Robotech was 1985.
    Voltron was 1984.
Mysterious Cities of Gold was 1986
ADventures of the Little Koala was 1988.
Plus the Flintstones, Jetsons, Looney Tunes, Wonderful World of Disney, The Snorks, Paw Paw Bears, Herculoids, Laff-a-lmypics, Wacky Races, Thundaar, and hundreds of other syndicated shit that was ages old

Pic is something i thought was the greatest shit ever when i was a little kid in the 80s and it ran everyday on some local indie station. It was the most popular toyline until TMNT
    >>
    >>156135169
Well I was 2 so I didn't mind. Miss when TVs were something you could put shit on tho.

    >You wake up. It's a Saturday in 1988.
I mean yeah that's the story of how I was dragged kicking and screaming into this world, except it was Friday and I didn't give a shit about what was on television.
    >How the fuck did people live like this?
Mom would tape the cartoons and we would watch them a few times until next Saturday, then she would tape over them and we'd have a new bunch to get us through the week. Otherwise we survived by not having a constant desire for screen-based entertainment, luckily we had a safe and spacious place outside to ride bikes and stuff which I know not everybody had.
    >>
    >>156135169
Fuck yeah! Gummi Bears, Smurfs, and Fraggle Rock were my JAMS.
    >>
    >>156135270
Honestly, if I found myself teleported back in time to 1988, I'd just start reading books. Even when the 90s roll around and TV gets somewhat better, there's only a few decent shows on a few channels. Some trashy horror or sci-fi paparebacks would be infinitely preferable to all the sitcoms and shitty cartoons.

    >>156136280
    >Norman Lear classics
Those are the most dogshit braindead prolefeed ever put on the air short of soap operas and the reality TV boom. They are the prime example of what anon was talking about WRT TV being a psyop to make people stupid.

there may not have been a ton of channels, but syndication was showing a ton of TV shows and movies still.
By the time Sci Fi Channel, TCM and TNT (way back in the 80s they were also a movie channel), i had already seen most of that stuff when there were only 30 channels on cable (MTV was 30, Nickelodean was 20, TBS was 26, HBO/Showtime/Max/Disney 15/16/17/18 were pay) and most of those were just locally aired stuff if you had agood enough antenna.
So there was a lot of great stuff you could watch UNCENSORED if not just boobs edited out of most shit. So back then, i actually watched almsot all of the Song of the South and Briar Rabbit on TV. Black face was still okay to show if it was on old cartoons.

Anyway, you're actually fucking up wasting your time reading anything. That shit today is still uncensored and cheaply available today. If you have access to uncensored shit today, you should enjoy the leaded air of the 80s.
Enjoy what your city looked like before it got modernized, gentrified to hell, and not overdeveloped due to overpopulation.

Go to disneyland or disneyworld, when it wasn't as crowded and enjoy all the Japanese tourists being wacky stereotypes you probably never saw due to being some zoomer watching censored movies that take out stereotypes.

Go see what arcade life was like at least, before everyone had a Nintendo or Playstation inside their home. Malls were amazing back then too, because they had their own social rules
As long as you're not in some major city or the rough side, you'll be super safe, despite violent crime being way more common back then.
