Everybody bitches about Batman not killing Joker but I think an even bigger problem is why the fuck are the guardians still around?>blackest night wouldn't have happened without them>Rise of the third army was their fault>Anything to do with the manhunters are their fault which also makes them directly responsible for the Red Lantern Corps>Fucking sealed Parallax in the central battery so Hal fucking destroying the universe was their fault>Volthoom exists because of Krona>Probably countless other examples that I haven't gotten to or readSinestro and Atrocious are right. How are the guardians even still around and why the hell have they lasted as long as they did? They're one of the most dangerous problems in the universe and are a single point of failure for the GLC. I haven't seen much Rebirth or post Rebirth/Future State stuff but I'm sure they found a way to come back recently and I want to know why? Why hasn't Raynor and Guy and Jordan just killed these mfers yet for the good of all sentient life and just run the corps on their own or democratically? These guys are literally responsible for several crisis events and even more planet wide holocausts and have barely been held accountable.
>>156133409Can they be killed? It's been stated, repeatedly, that they're all immortal. In DC that means more than just not aging. They couldn't do more to Krona than simply exile him.
>>156133409DC cosmology is more interesting when the Oan Guardians are around to somehow fuck things up again. >>156133692The Oan Guardians can be killed but they always manage to resurrect somehow. Killing them seem like a minor inconvenience for them.
>>156133409It's also bad when you consider that they went off with Zamarons to make space babies and enlisted a bunch of random people to take their place until they made fucky wucky (which I think Hal even said might take thousands of years)
>>156133409Ganthet a fucking bitchKill him in particular
>>156133409They're actually not, at least in terms of management. Current canon is all the corps fall under one organization with representatives from each democratically working together
>>156133409They're basically boomers desperately clinging to power and trying to stay relevant while screwing everyone else.
>>156133409You don't understand, OP. The Guardians always play the long game. All their fuckups are actually for the sake of the stability of the universe. Without their shenanigans, a worse threat would take over in the vacuum.
>>156133409Because their pets the Green Lanterns don't allow anyone to do the right thing
>>156133409How powerful are they? Could Batman beat them with prep time?
>>156133409I miss when the Guardians were aloof but well intentioned and largely competent. So like, fifty years ago.
>>156133692Could you seal them in the phantom zone forever?
>>156133692They, and their offshoots like Controllers, can and have been killed a fuckload of times. Dueing COIE all of them got lilled by the anti-magter wave, Atrocitus killed them, Sinestro with Parallax killed them, one of them suicided to deal with Superboy Prime (didn't take), another suicided to kill Doomsday (also didn't take), Hal killed Krona, Larflezze murdered a whole bunch of Controllers, and so on and so forth.
>>156135621>They're basically boomers desperately clinging to power and trying to stay relevant while screwing everyone else. You know, I think you're right.
>>156133409you can't prove any of those things happened in the same continuity and even if you could one reboot later no you can't
>>156133692Killing them seems to damage the fabric of the universe so that is never advised.
>>156133409>>156137349Fun fact, the Guardians are based on the early Israeli leadership and ideas of the Sanhedrin.>Kane modeled Jordan after Jewish movie star and former next-door neighbor, Paul Newman. The Corps’ founders, the Guardians of the Universe, the oldest and wisest beings in creation, were modeled after David Ben-Gurion, founding father and first prime minister of Israel. April 2014’s “Green Lantern: New Guardians #28” even introduced one named Gurion.>What’s really interesting in this context is the original number of Green Lanterns: 3600, one for each sector of known space. No explanation has ever been given for the number, and it may be arbitrary, but it does carry a strong connotation in Jewish tradition.>The number 36 is associated with light. Excluding the Shamash, 36 candles are lit in total during Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. There are 36 tractates in the Babylonian Talmud, illuminating Biblical passages. It’s also the number of life; in the Hebrew alphanumeric system the word chai (חַי), meaning life in the singular, equals 18, and its first plural is 36.>According to the Talmud, in every generation there are 36 Righteous Ones in the world — the Lamed Vav Tzadikim — virtuous people who oppose injustice and defend life, preventing the world from coming to an end, and whose identity is secret. It’s a well-known concept in Jewish folklore, and it’s not entirely implausible that it was in the back of Schwartz’s or Broome’s mind when they came up with 3600 masked defenders of the cosmos.https://forward.com/culture/478323/green-lantern-jewish-superhero-spiderman-superman-julie-schwartz-paul/
>>156133409Just stop writing them as dicks. They’re only there to recruit members, ensure they’re properly trained, and establish a few basic rules. They shouldn’t be achievers or interfere with the development of other planets other than picking a GL for their sector, and the rings do most of the work there.
>>156133409I think the Guardians just hate doing paperwork, so they're willing to give the gremlins back their old seats as long as they shut the fuck up and sign off on everything for them.>>156133692I don't know, Atrocitus and Sinestro killed them pretty convincingly that one time. Anyway if fucking NEKRON can fall to Hal without ever becoming a problem again, I don't really feel like this is a motivation problem.
>>156141076>the GuardiansThe Lanterns I mean
>>156133409I agree
>>156133409They keep getting killed off and brought back though.
