It's Halloween, let's talk about the Batman villain, Scarecrow

ONE
NOTE
GIMMICK

I appreciate the little bit of hay hair Alex Ross gave him

Eh, not necessarily. If we're talking adaptations and side appearances then yeah Crane gets pretty one with the fear toxin. However whenever they get into his methodical psychologist side its usually good
>>

He's a fucking nerd.
>>
>>156132517
If I was Batman, I'd grab him by his noose thingy and swing him around.

Any real old batfags who have read a lot, can give me a good list of Scarecrow stories? He seems like he could use a story that is as good as The Laughing Fish, Two-Face's origin, or Mr. Freeze's revised origin. Seems like Riddler, Penguin, and Scarecrow maybe could use their own singular story that redefines them or just one that introduces a new layer. Or even just one that uses all of them for an arc.

He's a hero

Scarecrow Year One. It shows Crane's childhood under his abusive grandmother
>>
>batmans whole thing is how fear can be a tool
>this dichotomy with scarecrow is never explored
>>

It kinda is. See the discussion is Batman questioning his methods as being counterproductive. He strikes fear into criminals, but on some occasions his myth will scare innocent people. Crane abuses fear for his own sick twisted pleasure and scientific curiosity.

It's kind of like that scene in The Batman where people were terrified of Batman but the kid actually reached out

Yes but it’s not explored deeply imo. Batman obviously knows criminals are cowardly and superstitious by nature and he uses that to intimidate them, but also uses that fear to inspire others. The fear of God can be a force for good because it makes moral consequences real. Crane never really explores fear in a philosophical way. He could be a counterpart to batman who also believes humans are ruled by their fear and selfish instincts, but takes a pessimistic view and hates people for it. He wants to use fear to reduce people to the animals he thinks they are, batman wants to use fear to inspire people to believe there is more to the world and a reason to be brave in the face of evil. I feel like this has never really been delved into, but I am happy to be corrected.

Didn't Fear State touch on this?

But the best Halloween batman villain was mad hatter.

What does fear gas smell like
>>
>>156132538
you don't read any comics with scarecrow if you still think this. hell, absolute scarecrow's arc literally just wrapped up and it wasn't just a "scarecrow uses his fear gas to show batman his worst nightmares" story
