The thing about Frank Grimes is that Grimey is not a realistic person,he is cartoonishly miserable and small minded,he is a caricature of what a "normal American" is. Mike Wegman feels more like a "real guy who meets homer" imo, in that he admires his seemingly simple and carefree life without recognizing Homer's own personal struggles and suffering. Mistaking Homer's denial and willfull ignorance as inner peace and enlightenment. Because I don't think most people would sperg out over Homer like Grimey does. Most people aren't delusionally obsessed with merit and blind to outer corruption.
>>156124777I just don't like it when Grimey is praised as a "realistic" character. He isn't realistic. His backstory is intentionally absurd and satirical,he's two dimensionally obsessed with merit and hard work, unable to look past why his hard work isnt paying off or why people like Mr Burns walk over him. He is a parody of the "real person in Springfield" concept,he is mocking the concept that the viewer is any different from Homer Simpson. He is his direct opposite, and it is supposed to show that the opposite of Homer isn't a real person.
>>156124836Wegman reminds me of real Simpsons fans that miss the point,he's obviously a nice normal guy, but around homer he sees his idealized life, but Homer isn't an ideal person. Most People would like to fall upwards,to put in the bare minimum and get the most out of your investment.
>>156124887Both Grimes and Wegman fall into the same mindset that Homer's life is "perfect", though the joke is that it isn't,it's full of misfortune and suffering, being Homer Simpson isn't all sunshine and rainbows, he gets hurt physically mentally emotionally and spiritually constantly. Grimey and Wegman are laser focused on Homer's success that they can't see the greater failures befalling him. Both are delusional, but Wegman feels like a genuine normal Simpsons fan entering Springfield vs a California comedian's interpretation of the average working class American.
Holy samefagging.
>>156124777Yeah, interesting point. I never really knew about Mike Wegman aside from the one clip but you convinced me to check out hjs episodes
Holy shit, this is a regular character that has appeared in multiple episodes. I thought this was some Weird Matt sorta joke, or at least a one off.
isn't chalmers supposed to be the realistic guy
>>156124777nothing about grimes is unrealisticyou've just never struggled in your life
>>156125169There's struggling and there's being abandoned by your parents while they are recording it.
>>156125192
>>156125169i take it that working as a delivery boy at age 4 and getting injured by exploding silos is a very common occurrence
>>156125106Is he?
>>156124777I don't know if you're aware of this, OP, but cartoons aren't real.
>>156125202Is there missing context here?
>>156124777What would happen if Mike Wegman was also introduced in the same episode that Frank Grimes was introduced? Like Grimes gets hired but Burns forgot about him and so puts him in a position higher than Homer and his friends, while Wegman gets hired as an intern. At what point does Wegman get into a fight with Grimes?
>>156125202That's a hard 18 if true.
>>156125202what the fuck
