Has a single panel ruined a characters reputation more than this?
>>156124670It's him vs Wanda
>>156124670
>>156124670"And I have to prove to them that I, Hal Jordan of Earth, am not a Child Molester."I will thank anyone who has that panel.
>>156124711The hank one was a miscommunication they failed to catch, and then got brought up again long after the fact. What was Wells on?
>>156124741>The hank one was a miscommunication they failed to catchStraight bullshit from Jim Shooter trying to throw Bob Hall under the bus
when they decided to make slade based
>>156124752Source? Not doubting just curious to see what Hall has to say.
>Hal imagining all of this
>>156124726
>>156124670not a panel but...
>>156124907Superman should just be this way but still nice to kids and animals, it'd genuinely skyrocket his popularity.
Hank was fine after this though. His breakdown was a good story arc. His reputation was ruined by bad writers decades after this had been properly addressed
>>156125241From what I understand it was Bendis bringing it back up? Will we see the same thing brought up for Peter?
>>156125250everyone already knew jen was a whore. this is funny
>>156125252I think it was actually Austen that brought it up first in his very short lived Avengers run. But then Bendis did it and Millar made it even edgier and retarded in Ultimates
>>156125277Slott made her a whore you goof.
>>156125241Yeah, he was basically always around and pretty much went right from the Egghead story to West Coast Avengers. It was really only in the 2000s where message boards and writers like Bendis and Millar started making a big deal of it that it came back to completely ruin his character and ruined it so much that he got killed off for a long-ass time and even when he came back is stuck as a fucking old geezer for retarded MCU synergy. I suspect part of the ruination of Pym and making The Slap so central in that time also goes back to when the Ant-Man movie was first being developed by Edgar Wright in the early 2000s and he wanted to use Lang. So Lang gets added to the Avengers after being a largely forgotten character who'd spent most of the last ~15 years as an Iron Man and Fantastic Four supporting character. Then it seems like the movie's going nowhere so Bendis is able to kill him.
>>156124670And it took decades after that was printed for it to happen.
>>156125790I'm wondering when some disgruntled fan wielding their own club and bugbear finally comes for the twenties golden boy.
>>156124726Looks like cropped porn but I could just be seein' things..
>>156124797why did they call him Slade in this comic for the tv show it makes sense but comics never had a problem with him being called deathstroke
>>156125779>I suspect part of the ruination of Pym and making The Slap so central in that time also goes back to when the Ant-Man movie was first being developed by Edgar Wright in the early 2000s and he wanted to use Lang. So Lang gets added to the Avengers after being a largely forgotten character who'd spent most of the last ~15 years as an Iron Man and Fantastic Four supporting character. Not really, Scott was added to the Avengers because Geoff Johns specifically wanted to use him, Edgar Wright approached Marvel in 2004 with his pitch for the Ant-Man movie and that was the exact same time Scott was killed in Disassembled. Wright tried to pitch the movie before in 2001 back when Artisan Entertainment had the movie rights but that never went anywhere and according to Wright they didn't even send the pitch to Marvel, so they only really entertained the idea of a Scott Lang movie in the same year he was killed
>>156125252>>156125280No it was:Millar using it for Ultimates firstAusten bringing it back up in his runKirkman sort of doing it for Marvel Zombies, but in a different way (I only bring this up because I've seen actual morons back then insist that Hank always abused Janet and used MZ as an example even though everyone was more crazy due to being zombified)Bendis bringing it up afterEveryone else bringing it up to show they're with it or whatever
>>156124752>Jim Shooter trying to throw Bob Hallaccording to Bob Hall
>>156125252>>156125280>>156125779After the whole Trial of Yellowjacket story ended, the slap didn't get mentioned that much in comics through the rest of the 80s and most of the 90s. Byrne's West Coast Avengers opened with Hank and Jan having got back together off-panel between issues, though they parted as friends after he left the book.In the 90s however Wizard Magazine would make jokes about Hank Pym being a wifebeater whenever they had reason to mention him, an online comics community was forming, and it's all casuals knew about Hank, and this may have been why there was an attempt to retcon Hank's mental health problems and breakdowns, and by extension the slap as well,as being caused by Kang's failed attempt to mind control him, with the thought process being that if the slap was actually a villain's fault maybe people will shut up about it and stop making jokes about Hank or using it as grounds to oppose Hank and Jan being together again. But some people really hated the retcon taking Hank's problems and his responsibility for his actions away from him, including everyone working on Avengers in the late 90s and early 2000s, leading to it getting undone and a whole arc about Hank's mental health issues and him becoming Yellowjacket again because they felt it was his coolest costume even though it was forever tainted by the slap.Meanwhile Wizard and it's spinoffs and the online community were still constantly making wifebeater jokes about Hank, it was still all casuals knew about him, his stories in then- current Avengers comics were all about constantly revisiting it, and this road led us to Millar's Ultimates and Austen's Avengers. Austen allegedly wanted to turn Hank into a villain out of a mentality that showing the audience "your can fix a domestic abuser and stay with him" is the wrong message.
>>156126643To add to this, Scott Lang was guest starring in Alias and Benis wanted to kill him in that book's final storyline, but wasn't allowed, as Scott was also part of the cast of Avengers at the time. Benis apparently really didn't like editorial saying no to him, and when he later became the new Avengers writer his run opens with Scott Lang getting killed.I still believe the whole Pymtron thing happened as a planned way to take Hank Pym off the board in the year the first Ant-Man movie was released, just in case the media tried running any stories about comics Hank and the slap.

>>156127049it's insane how much the internet and cynical pseuds clinging to edgy memes to sound smart ended up ruining fiction.
