Does the Beast prove that villains without any backstory and any real personality besides the predatory drive can still work very well?
>>156121444Yes
>>156121444yes, sometimes a villain can be just a monster, a force of nature rather than a character.
>>156121444The Lich was a better villain when he was just an absurdly well-programmed undead automaton of unknown origin with the goal of destroying all life IMO.The Absolute Solver is an interesting case in that it, technically, has a personality... but it is, in large part, an imitation of Cyn's personality... of unclear accuracy, since we never knew real Cyn.In general, this type of villains probably only works in the horror (or horror-adjascent) genre.
>>156121444Yeah. Shame the show he was in fucking sucked.
>>156121444
>>156122485Nope
>>156121444lol i guess so
>>156121464Yeah?
>>156121444the first answer is "yes"but as an aside, why do people always treat this as a contest to see if their particular favorite archetype is winning?some people prefer this thing other people prefer that thing, and its okay to like something less popular than other people
Stories don’t need villains so much as they need conflict. Antagonists is one many possible sources of conflict in a story, ans so long as the conflict it causes serves the narrative, it can be as complex or as simple as it needs to be. No more, no less.
>>156126588>why do people always treat this as a contest to see if their particular favorite archetype is winning? The terminally online compulsion to feel superior than others by enjoying the “better” thing.
>>156121444Yeah but if it's used in the right medium and context. The beast is basically a classic fairytale/mythological monster. Much of the intimidation aspect comes from the lack of knowledge and fear of the unknown. If you can't understand something you don't know how to deal with it.
>no feats except being hard to hit>no powers except temptation>defeated by sub-normal level human (a teenager)why were people afraid of him, again?
>>156126620Go back to your Death Battle threads and stay there.
>>156126620Oh look a powerscaler. Truly fascinating creatures.
>>156121444kinda.In the end it still felt underused/underdeveloped.
>>156121444No.
>>156121444Duh
Sometimes the antagonist of a story isn't malicious and is more like a force of nature.
>>156126636Pray for them, for they are so gayTheir homo-mating call involve the vocalization of "Cuck", "Sissy", and "Gapped". And they all want to suck Kratos' dick
>>156121444Villians are context specific. He works well in the context he is used cause he generates conflict that works for the story. Basically >>156126595
>>156128081Cuck is more general use(are we forgetting the 2010s?) ,let's not pretend it's powerscaler specific
>>156128081You seem to know a lot about their culture.
The huntsman is the main antagonist as far as characters with motivations go, the beast is the driving force behind it
>>156128358Im the Jane Goodall of their threads>>156128285They seemed to have greatly use and incorporated it into their vocabulary. Excessively so.They write in character solioquies about being cucks to characters they hate
