Shouldn't the force of the optic blast push the trajectory of the acid blood spatters outwards, away from his face, and not inwards, hitting his face?

Acid blood, like one of the few things people who don't even watch the movies are aware of, Cyclops was just too slow on the draw and it attached itself to his face, meaning alien blood drenching his skull once it goes pop.Granted, his head shouldn't explode like that, it would have killed him relatively fast though as the acid quickly eats its way through his skull, it should have been far more graphic.
