Guns exist in our world. That deadly force equaliser doesn't change the massive difference between the sexes in stamina and weight that can be carried, picking a specific obvious issue. Generally speaking, whether it's the military or police, the entry criteria for women are significantly lower than those for men. For the men that fight beside them: If you're carrying someone else's slack/dead weight, it's to the detriment of your own capabilities.

Before humans started forming large communities no one gave a shit about who wss doing what. It wasn't till full city states and civilizations popped up that gender roles became a thing, but even then the chud idea that women solely where homemakers while the men where the sole bread winners have never been true.
