Predetermination (Terezi had made up her mind on killing vriska, no amount of luck manipulation would get her out of it) won out, foreshadowing Lord English and his ultimate power. But thats not really a fight, thats literally just one backstab. Or look at karkat vs Clover. What does that fight say about any of the characters involved. Nothing. It is just there to give karkat a win. Even tho in context that win was kind of super important, because of how powerful clover is, since neither of them have any narrative weight, it just *means* nothing. Being in a cool big fight in homestuck, especiallly in collide, is more of a participation award than anything "wow you lived because hussie liked you, here have a cool fight scene!"

Not even saying the matriorb should survive, either.) . As for fighting gamzee, yeah, that kinda tracks, it was a decent way to show her struggle, not tooooo much to say, but i think its fine. The other fights, the fact that she doesn't participate shows aspects of her characters, but the only reason she usually does not engage with those fights is because she doesn't belong in them, as her being involved doesn't really *mean* anything. Im going to have to slightly step back, mostly because i said i think all the fights are ass, and thats not true, but they just dont have the same narrative weight as the biggest conversations/pesterlog scenes. And more importantly, because this conversation started with kanaya, and thats sort of the thing i have the biggest bone to pick with, because with her very specifically, i think the fights she engages with do little for her. Not that she had much going for her anyway, hussie like i said, gave her NOTHING.
