The unofficial reason is that its still cross market synergy for the brand which ultimately helps the IP.In the video realm its the biggest example. Every big budget game gets low and mid budget knockoffs. If the big company blows all this money getting the consumers excited for their game, its genre and mechanics, then it means other projects hitting that same way and getting customers that were either too cheap or wanting more but similar.
