...is completely comical if you even think about it.So all these threats occur daily and normal people don't even bother trying to learn magic? >The world's history? Pretty much the same, adding magic changes nothing.>How powerful is this magic? It just works until it doesn't.
and kids can learn with no problem.
>>156100936You act like niggas can easily join the sanctum sanctorum or learn from zatanna By that logic there's nothing stopping you from learning real magick like Crowley yet no one outside of /x/ and /pol/ bothers with it The resources are there, but the average civilian isn't going to jave the knowledge and resources to study all that, plus magic can and has backfired so its not like everyone would be brave enough to do it
>>156101040Eva Quintero (Reptil's cousin) learn by herself magic, and can open space time portals and shoot blast energy.Magic powers are jokes.
>>156100936It used to be super fucking hard to doLike, “spend a year and a half fasting and studying and being taught by an incredibly competent teacher just to start the basics of the basics of the basics” hardThen it kind of got Harry Potterified and now your question is actually legitimate because every other new magic series is about a super gifted young teenage girl waking up with magic powers or someone just going to school to learn a new spell every week
>>156100936Normally, learning magic is hard as fuck and tasking on your mental or have a price depending on your source of power, but modern writers raised on Harry Potter may not give a fuck.
>>156100936>The world's history? Pretty much the same, adding magic changes nothing.Oh that's just because magic is real
>>156101511>raised on Harry PotterUsing this as a frame is odd though since in that universe magic is entirely hereditary. You're either born with it or you aren't and even if you are you can just be born with it wrong. It's exclusive. That's not really the case with magic in other settings where it can just be learned.
>>156100936I think magic in both DC and Marvel are exclusive clubs. Either you blindly try rituals and likely turn insane or get soul vored by a demon or you stumble across the Kamar-Taj or Firefly House and mingle with other mages
>>156100936Why would they? Most of the time it's just a beam you can get from radiation, mutation, lab accidents and the like.
>>156101704I know my plan if I ever wake up in DC or Marvel is to get a minwage job at Star Lab/Oscorp and wait for an accident to happen and give me powers.
>>156100936Of course its comical, its a comic book.
But science is the same way in comics so why the fuck doesn't everyone just pick up a math book and start studying?
>>156100936>So all these threats occur daily and normal people don't even bother trying to learn magic? Normal people don't bother learning maths in the real world.
>>156100936I get around this by magic being extremely inconsistent person to person. Also it's kind of alive and doesn't appreciate attempted to apply the scientific method to it.
>>156100936DC tried to make it out that only a special subset of humanity even has the capability to learn and do magic at all. Then they fucked that up by outright stating anyone can do it. So there really is no actual excuse if anyone can go pick up a few books of wicca and be capable of casting spells in a few months. Marvel magic is a little different, in DnD terms it's more cleric/warlock style in basically summoning or contacting some otherworldly outsider and bargaining for power. Every single spell Strange does is calling on some outsider and asking for a spell to happen, half the time from someone unsavory like Cytorrak or the Faltine. So it seems inherently dangerous in the first place, not something to be attempted alone or without the guidance of a master. Since one might contact anything random from some elf, a demon, Mephisto, Nightmare, or Dormammu. They really have no way of knowing until it's too late.
>>156101424>>156101511>>156101689Weirdly DC already had this exact same setup with the Homo Magi sub or humanity. and they have a few random hidden cities around the world. I thought it was a little weird that they never once tried to capitalize on the Harry Potter success and tried to do something like it.Like Zatanna being placed as headmistress of a wizard school or something that looks weirdly similar to Hogwarts. Also Potter and DC both being licensed by Warner would make it easier. Meanwhile, Marvel did do the teen magic school thing for a few years.
>>156100936Hisoka?
>>156101040>real magick like Crowley>I JUST PERFORMED A SPELL TO GIVE ME UNLIMITED WEALTH BY DRINKING THE CUM OF LITTLE BOYS, I'M ABOVE YOU FUCKING PLEBS!
>>156100936>...is completely comicalSo you're telling me comic books are comical? It's almost like....that is the what they are supposed to be hence the root words being the same?
I cant be bothered to care about magic or it's users in cape comics. It's an entirely bullshit coin toss of a superpower where the character do anything while the plot is vague enough by saying "ahhh these are the bindings for the world of what the fuck ever" without any real rules or restrictions. This is more than evident with characters like Dr Strange and Zatanna who's whole toolkit is just "let me pull this shit out of my ass and never do it again" by summoning tentacles or doing some weird light distortion or other dumb shit. You have a limitless character with no real challenges unless you enforce something vague and arbitrary to keep them at bay while the characters spout empty words>inb4 it makes for cool visuals and a versatile character and thats what mattersYou can have limitless characters who make cool visuals without being as nonsensical and self important about it. Shapeshifting, matter manipulation, lantern rings or whatever>inb4 magician character who only shoots fireballs and makes portalsJust give them normal superpowers at that point and skip the magic crapAlso the fact writers never have any idea of how to add a villain to a magic character that's not a demon, another magician or some entity which just makes for very predictable conflict
>>156101040>real magick like Crowley
>>156100936>normal people don't even bother trying to learn magic? All the normalfags died trying to get radioactive spider powers first >>156103670>starts shrieking and shouting about shota cum our of seemingly nowhereI'm just practicing alliteration dont mind me
>>156103727>Crowley and pedophilia are totally unrelated, guys, pwease believe me
>>156103816I never said it wasnt I dont know anything about Allister Crowly it's just really sad you don't know how to communicate like a normal person. OP here is your answer by the way. People are so retarded brown and autistic they can't even talk to other human beings let alone learn math let alone learn literacy let alone fucking magic. The biggest thing they can understand is how to do mental gymnastics to sperg about pedophiles on a board with dozens of western loli spam thread and telk everyone about how they know about drinking little boy cum for some reason. The average person is EVEN MORE RETARDED THAN THIS GUY.
>>156100936Seems a lot easier to just go to Tinkerer and get a helicopter umbrella, jet boots, or laser gloves made up instead.
>>156103912Casual low level villain science is already pretty fucking magical. Spidey-villains and Rogues already have some low level reality manipulating powers at their hands.
>>156101040This.Same reason why not all humans are gunslinging brain surgeons and Navy SEALs with a PhD in quantum physics and a third degree black belt in Krav Maga. Technically, they could do those things if they really want to... but they don't.
>>156103888>Defending Crowley THIS hard
>>156100936It's not superhero settings, it's limited superhero franchise settings. Also, stop making this thread.
>>156101040>By that logic there's nothing stopping you from learning real magick like CrowleyYou don't even need that example. We know tech is feasible by the fact we're using propriety materials right now to have this thread, yet OP isn't spending his time making his own 4chan extension or his own 4chan site or his own operating system and so on even if it would allow him greater control. Most people don't even bother learning how to cook! Now, it's obviously mostly a contrivance when any modern day magic setting has the majority neglect to learn basic spells so the writer's central cast take spotlight, but at the same time it's not that implausible for a majority to appoint or await for specialists to handle things due to inherent laziness. Also, the alternative is things like Ned learning magic effortlessly in the MCU.Magic isn't something that should only belong to the specials or it might as well just be renamed the Author's Whim, but once you start handing it out to every clown you begin to see how it results in a lower narrative quality.
>>156100936Most people barely have a surface level understanding of how tech works. This is despite the fact technology is essentially magic and everywhere in our current life.No way is anyone outside the most devote going to try to learn stuff that is largely undocumented, hard to find, and/or require high level bargaining beyond lighting a match with your finger.
>>156105287First time I’m seeing itIs this a frequent spam thread or something?
>>156100936Isn't this what happens? Lots of characters just have a natrual talent for it. As for history, look at myths, which are based on fact in marvel, it could be full of magic and turn out the way it did today.
>Have to spend a long time meditating to awaken your senses to beyond what you can already see and touch and need to fundamentally relearn your perception of existence, plus learning the "language".>Buy a gun from a store. You don't even need to be actually good at firing it since the threat of being shot scares most people. It is a mystery.
>>156105808>get to kill a few peoplevs.>warp reality to your will with a thoughtyeah, damn, I wonder which is more enticing
>>156100936I agree but it's just so much better than the science they pull out of their assSee the "Reed Richards is Useless" trope, nostalgiafags make so many shitty excuses to say "it's good writing that this benevolent hero who can make a cure for cancer doesn't use it, actually!"God I fucking hate nostalgiafags, these are the same retards who call any capeshit deconstruction "nihilistic" but will cry why rich jews ruin their franchises
