Removing the profit motive from art is the only way to get genuinely experimental and unique creations. Capitalism can't do this; Communism and Aristocracy (to use two general terms) can.

Many wealthy patrons funded great art just to say they were the ones that funded it. Even just putting an artist up with free room and board helps because nothing kills creativity like having to think about paying rent, or having to fit creation around a day job.

I get the angle you're coming from, but art within the period of european aristocracy was largely still profit motivated. Most of the great works of that era came from art guilds or mason guilds that were, by design, centered around artists finding work and being payed for their craft. Often by pandering or trying to flatter wealthy prospective patrons.

Masha and the Bear is the most popular Eastern European cartoon in the West. It's really just Cocomelon kiddie slop.

Are there any that are actually good and that Westerners should watch?

>Removing the profit motive from art is the only way to get genuinely experimental and unique creations.
I think the history of art contradicts this. Easily so when looking at cartoons and films. Like you might not think of Disney or Warner Bros. as experimental and unique today, but they pioneered the creation of cartoons. Their stuff was genuinely experimental and unique back in the day, and definitely profit-driven as well.

The difference between then and now is that the field wasn't established so there was tons of room for taking risks and experimenting successfully, whereas now people want to stick with proven formulas.

Even deeper than just cartoons, a lot of great art throughout history was created for profit or funded by wealthy patrons. Just look at the Sistene Chapel.

>Capitalism can't do this; Communism and Aristocracy (to use two general terms) can.
Two problems with this. First, in practice Capitalism ended up producing far larger amounts of influential, experimental and culturally significant art. Second, wealthy patronage still exists in Capitalism alongside commercially motivated art.
