Also all the monsters are invisible to the human eye so all the insane shit could be going on and nobody would know. I remember an episode where her friends saw what was going on and after she saved the day her grandma said we have to erase everybody’s memories and June says ‘But I’ll be happy’ only for her grandma to say ‘I know :)’ and does it anyways.

My most vivid memory of Juniper Lee is that Loki was one of her regular villains, which was pretty cool. This was of course before the MCU so Loki, as a god, wasn't exactly a household name. It was a bit of a deep cut at the time, and as a lover of Norse mythology I appreciated it.

>>156094034I just watched juniper lee with friends actually and then most went off to watch jake long. It seems to be a consensus that juniper lee is too op too early on. Also while both have the "good" monster angle or the monsters are more unintentionally bad etc, jake long uses more well known monsters unicorns giants cyclops etc. While juniper lee tended to just make stuff up it's not bad but most of them existed and had weaknesses that just boiled down to being a joke. Juniper lee's other big flaw is overall the jokes just weren't all that funny most of the times. It was the much more comedic of the two shows but most of the jokes boiled down to juniper being a tyrant on the monsters (which was funny and kind of cute especially because of her va who sold these scenes) but then the monsters were just typical goofy big idiots and it got old fast. But jake had a whole story arc and this allowed for more character growth episodes and lore episodes this and the fact he was in training compared to juniper who was beating up giants in ep 1. Think towards the end they tried a bit more lore maybe to compete with jake but it was too little too late. I swear it's sad as I loved both shows as a kid but 9 times out of 10 you ask someone who jake long is they know immediately, I mean for fuck sake we have a haley thread that has tons of /co/ exclusive art every month but juniper threads get like 100 replies then archive. Juniper is definitely better than most shows out now and it really just needs a few tweaks and it'd have been infinitely better like playing more on her being stuck in the city or more on the mystic side/her family those episodes were always interesting. Give her a monster that she can't easily one tap once she gets to them more often etc.

>>156098180I do get that and honestly it's pretty funny for it at time, seeing big monsters scared of this cute little girl who's not even 1/4 their size is funny. The problem comes in because the writing is just weaker because to make episodes like that work you need to be like s1-3 ppg where you really either lean into the OPness and brutality and mean spiritedness. Some of the best PPG eps are when they go to far but this is just their normalcy for them. But again I like juniper just giving some reasons I've heard as a fan why others aren't as interested. I do think it had potential it's biggest flaw was it was surrounded by peak and just couldn't make it as a more averagely good show.

His family having to keep the magic stuff a secret from his dad, Hailey inheriting the dragon powers and still had her own thing going on. Grandpa has a lot more of a backstory as his history of the Chinese dragon. Jake also had 2 best friends and a love interest which was easier to flesh out than June’s 3 best friends + love interest. Ironically Jake Long felt more comic booky

Also think another thing is while boys do like cool girls I think juniper lee failed at getting enough male fans and wasn't all that female centered to begin with. This is unlike ppg where it's very girl and magic girl centered from the bubbly elements, the tones, and the designs and personalities. But PPG also had the ultra violence and action aspect of a superhero show but never made the girls not well girls. So it truly caught both audiences in a headspin. Juniper lee feels like it was meant to lean more to boys I remember many of the episodes having silly names and gross out humor even if lightly. But if you ask a young boy who would he pick between a boy and girl with the same story and elements but one has more action and lore. The boy is smoking the girl all day, really so much art of "oh jun can beat jake in a fight, we need more jake mogging jun in memorability". Really did feel more comic booky and I think that was another thing, action in juniper lee felt more cartoony. Like jun punches the mummy into dust in one shot but that was kind of the thing if you want super powerful girl like gert or ppg, you've got to lean into the beat down or it's just OPM. Jun too often one shotted her villains no big fight and when she did have a fight it was pretty slapsticky or low quality.

But posting one to talk about one of my many problems the monsters were super uncreative. They had chinese/eastern lore to play on and most of her monsters are just called "horned monster, many eyed monster, slug" etc. Jake had classic well known mythos creatures and most eps lowkey taught you a bit about their lore and some mix of show and irl weakness/natures. Then even their "successor" jentry chau actually uses her eastern lore and all her monsters are based on actual yokai or demons from her chinese background.
