It's not merely 'disliking', who even said anything about disliking? It's more about a character killing an extremely evil bastard like the Joker, who is irredeemable and often kills dozens of people in a cruel and sadistic fashion.

I think you’re just low EQ. This kind of media isn’t literally saying never kill villains or you’re “just like them”, it’s just using that sort of kid friendly element as a way to say don’t forget to maintain a moral standard so you are actually justified in fighting these people because you are better than them. These days, everyone is a massive selfish hypocrite with zero values who will use the most underhanded scummy tactics to “win” and so across the political divide you can’t really identify which side is moral and has good behind them.
>>
>>156087333
OP immediately brought up Punisher so he's clearly not focused on kid friendly content exclusively.
>>
>>156086780
It's all about the slippery slope. There's nothing wrong with killing massmurdering terrorists or criminals who will obviously never reform, but after a while it becomes easier to justify killing anyone for any reason.
The Punisher in fact got to that point before they retconned it with mind control drugs.

The problem is people are retards and often unfairly judge people to be that evil. There's a reason we follow the rule of law rather than mob rule. Otherwise you have tons of people justifying their murders by saying their target was super evil actually and deserved it, despite them have very subjective (or factually wrong) ideas about what the person did that was evil.

Cape comics originate in an era where prisoner rehabilitation and the idea of paying a debt to society were what people considered what prison was for. And if all else failed you could poke in their brain a little until they were docile. This has fallen by the wayside and prison is more a hole to toss undesirables in and often get worse, so killing them is appealing to people as a solution. We’re also more viscerally connected to crime thanks to video and photography in a way people in the past weren’t. It’s hard to believe in reforming a murderer when a person can see what crime they did online.

the noble ideals of letting go of personal attachments for the clear mind to judge and kill in a righteous manner, have decayed. society degenerated, everyone now is blinded by emotions and the petty clannish vengeance cycle of tribal society is all that's left for some people.

Aristotelian thought holds the belief of an enlightened aristocracy with the emotional self control to accurately gauge if punishment should happen
Buddhists likewise believed enlightenment came from freeing yourself from attachment, vengeance requires attachment.
Other easterner philosophies have a variation of "Feeling vengefull is like drinking poison and hoping they die"
The Christian belief is that all humanity is evil, the final judgment is Gods, not ours, though we are called to deliver judgment on earth and act in his name. Forgiveness is one of the pre requisets as you must hate the sin and not the man.

Vengeance is bad. People who think that the justice system is about punishing/getting revenge on criminals rather than protecting society as a whole are retards that actively contribute to why the world is a piece of shit.

The purpose of the justice system is not reformation, it is not cruelty, and it is not revenge; it is about making sure that elements that are harmful to the general public are prevented from causing harm to the public, either through imprisonment or execution.

I'm all for the death penalty but I also believe there ought to be significant checks and balances and I am against the idea of vigilante justice because most of the 'righteous' vigilantes are actually faggot retards who couldn't be impartial if their faggot retard lives depended on it.

No that’s why we have courts, it’s to determine not just guilt but the levels of guilt and then give an adequate punishment. However that implies that the system works and that those who have transgressed face the justice which they deserve. If not then ultimately what is the point? What is the point of a system which does not investigate let alone punish those who have done awful shit.

>Otherwise you have tons of people justifying their murders by saying their target was super evil actually and deserved it, despite them have very subjective (or factually wrong) ideas about what the person did that was evil.
You have that anyway, though. Most societies declare killing to be immoral, despite the fact that killing is pretty much how every society came to be and defended itself. Even the bible says "thou shalt not kill", but then there's a whole section of asterisks that describe when it actually is okay to kill.

They key is that most sane people are not willing to throw their own lives away by attempting to take someone else's. If you're so fucking crooked or reprehensible that someone is willing to risk their own life to take yours, then maybe you need to look at yourself. Violent crime/homocide is WAY down from where it used to be, so people generally don't kill just for lolz, anymore.

No. You don't have that. Not to the same degree as if you freely allow and embrace murder. Instead, we rightly punish people for murder, even if they think it was justified.
>If you're so fucking crooked or reprehensible that someone is willing to risk their own life to take yours, then maybe you need to look at yourself.
What a dangerously naive idea of things. You really think people are flawless in their judgements? People will throw their own lives away for all kinds of stupid reasons.
>those people aren't sane tho!
Perfectly sane people can make absurd judgements as well.
>>
>>156087947
>Violent crime/homocide is WAY down from where it used to be, so people generally don't kill just for lolz, anymore.
That's horseshit, homicide (not "homocide," though that's down too lol) still is done without good reason all the time. The vast majority of homicides continue to happen because of arguments, interpersonal conflicts, and relatively petty motives.
>>
>>156086780
well that's a childish reductionism to kick things off with
>>
>>156087947
Societies declare murder to be an immoral act not necessarily killing. Even the societies and cultures that do view killing as immoral almost exclusively focus on the concept of an individual killing rather than a society as a whole killing. I cannot think of a single culture or society that takes a zero tolerance stance on taking the life of another human being.
>If you're so fucking crooked or reprehensible that someone is willing to risk their own life to take yours
What an absolutely retarded argument. Are you genuinely retarded enough to believe this or are you just being a disingenuous kike?
An oft-cited reason for the death penalty not being a good deterrent is that criminals often either (1) do not believe they will get caught and/or (2) do not plan violent crimes in advance and instead commit them in the spur of the moment.
When a nigger robs a liquor store and shoots the cashier that is not because the cashier is morally reprehensible, it is because the nigger has no respect for human life. The nigger is not thinking 'hm, by killing this individual I am in fact endangering my own life/liberty' they are thinking 'I want money. This thing is in the way of me getting money'. People getting mugged/killed/raped on the street are not evil and your take is legitimately one of the stupidest fucking things I've read on 4chan in a long time.

>No that’s why we have courts, it’s to determine not just guilt but the levels of guilt and then give an adequate punishment. What is the point of a system which does not investigate let alone punish those who have done awful shit.
Somehow you see this as a good argument for not having a system at all? That's an argument for reforming the courts and justice system, not an argument for letting people murder whoever they think deserves it.
>>
>>156087896
You're very confused and mistaking the forest for the tree. People only consider vengeance when they've been denied justice or can't even hope for it. This is a situation any society should avoid if they don't want to deal with radicals or vigilantes because protecting society is very much about maintaining the illusion that injustices are a punishable offense.

>>156088081
We could do without the racist morons posting, let more intelligent people make the points without injecting your stupidity into it.
>>
>>156087947
>Most societies declare killing to be immoral

No. Most societies and sane people understand the concept of two truths. It's not killing that's immoral, is the why and intention of the act. Killing can be very moral, like killing someone who's trying to take your autonomy away for having a different skin color, or killing something for food like a cow. Killing someone for a retarded reason like having a different opinion or because they wouldn't give you a taco when your at a Wendy's isn't moral.
>>
for anyone that doesn't agree then how do you plan to stop maniacs like the Joker and Victor Zsasz?
>>
>>156088099
No, it’s pointing out the inherent flaws in the system and asking you what should be done, do you have an answer?
>That's an argument for reforming the courts and justice system

I shouldn't have to explain this, maybe work on your own comprehension.
>>
>>156088209
>do you have an answer?
My answer is that having a justice system is better than mob rule where people murder whoever they think deserves it with no due process. I don't care if you think improving the system is hard, and whether I personally can tell you how to improve it or not is irrelevant to the point being made.
>>
>>156088282
We are currently under mod rule only it’s a mob of psychos rather than just a mob of the general population. One mob is no different than another. All covering for themselves and making it so their actions are either buried or minimized. Pardons and cushy sentences doled out as they see fit. You have no answer, you’re just saying it’s better to live under some bullshit which can’t be fixed rather than do anything proactive.
>I don't care if you think improving the system is hard
You do since you have no answer for the problem and just have to say that it’s better than being without. You’re the guy saying it’s better to have an umbrella but the umbrella you’re batting for is filled with holes. People get wet either way, but one has the illusion that something is being done, and entirely cosmetic thing to prevent chaos which only benefits the people who keep making shit worse. So I will ask again how is that going to be fixed? You can just say you don’t know and leave it at that. But don’t pretend that it’s somehow better.
>it or not is irrelevant to the point being made
It’s not, you need to trivialize because you don’t have an answer. Because you know shit is fucked but if you were to admit that to yourself you can no longer pretend that whatever you’re doing or telling yourself that you’re doing is fixing shit.
>>
>>156088357

It’s not, it acts under its own authority and has little to no safeguards or actual accountability for its members. It just does as it pleases because it has the power and ability to.
>The answer isn't to get rid of the rule of law
That is already gone, the sword only applies to people without the power or resources to avoid it and the scales can be skewed however the powers that be see fit.
>That is the opposite of fixing it
You don’t know what fixing shit means, you just want the status quo because you can’t think of anything else even if it’s completely fucked.

The problem is always utilitarian calculus. Sure, if I kill a killer of multiple people I'm maximizing utility in favor not killing, but the problem is that it doesn't end there. You end up with the consequences of letting the maximal amount live, which then has the potential to spawn more killers or worse, basically the Live Aid problem or by feeding the starving population you increase the level of famine via reproduction. Strictly speaking, all utilitarian arguments end at antifrustrationism, which is like antinatalism on steroids, and eventually the only reasonable action becomes promortalism i.e. you kill everyone, the benevolent world exploder.

So basically, you're going to need to go down another avenue.

We dont let people go around killing bad guys because it's never about killing bad guys as much as just killing and having an excuse to do it without making yourself seem wrong. Killing a corrupt CEO or pedophile doesnt change jack about the things that allow those people to exist to begin with, only a middle schooler would believe that taking down the big evil bad guy is gonna make all his minions fall down too. Im not against the death penalty but vigilante justice is just looking for a valid excuse to kill people without making yourself feel bad about doing so
Also if someone like say Batman were to start just haphazardly killing all his rogues it's not guaranteed that violence in Gotham would stop, if anything they might become more violent just to keep themselves afloat since the whole revolving door thing stopped working out for them

You should try working an inner-city ER sometime. These fuckers play paintball with real guns all day and night. Then there's all of the infants burned with boiling water. The first ten or twenty you think its an accident, but then you see the aftermath, cps takes the kid because "muh boyfriend mad, baby wouldn't shut up," and you realize its more a "new lion taking over the pride and killing cubs" thing. Then there was the boyfriend who beat the boy to death with coaxial cable (like cable tv cable), plus all the thirty-something new grandmothers and grandfathers... anyway, what were we talking about? There's a lot of his ways you could handle this, but it's not cut and dry. If you're not careful it will take over the plot or leave you with a nasty lose thread you don't want to deal with.

The correct answer is it's justified sometimes, but you can only have one hero doing it sparingly without too much public knowledge

If there are more heroes/people know about it, then you get the wild West and innocent people get killed (I'm reminded of an episode of gun smoke where a guy was framed too afraid to stand trial and ended up getting shot by the sheriff when he should've been able to have his day in court)

This leads to the Adam West/MHA idea that superheroes should be licensed with situational qualified immunity like super cops.

This leads to real world and civil war implications that the government can be corrupt and occupied by ZOG so you could be ordered to carry out a genocide in Palestine and ignore Jeffrey Epstein resulting in the need to go rogue and rebel

Which leads to a Frank Miller/Justice Lords/Watchmen situation where the superheroes do go rogue and kill the evil politicians and either instill a new form of government or declare themselves dictators

But then you get Kingdom Come where that once again leads to the possibility of corruption and the need to stage a violent revolution to take them down.

There's not a perfect answer and most people aren't going to want to jam the entire cycle into their plot, let alone for every story. The best thing is to do your best to avoid addressing the matter head on or letting your villains get that evil and if you do either have them get hoisted by their own petard or have the hero acting in self defense and seem shaken up about it after so you don't have to open a can of worms. Otherwise, you have to just pick one spot in the cycle and have it be about that, because an epic detailing the entire thing is difficult to pull off and not something you can only be done every so often

This reminds me of a case from a couple of years ago.
A cheerleader went super pregnant to prom, then a couple of weeks later she neither had the bump nor there was a baby at home. She was reported to the police and they found the baby buried in the yard. She gave birth in the living room then according to her "he wasn't breathing" so into the yard he goes.
To first degree murder, she was deemed not guilty.
To aggravated murder, she was deemed not guilty.
To child endangerment, she was deemed not guilty (lmao).
To uhh something moving a corpse, don't remember the actual term for it, she was deemed guilty.
She served 6 days in jail.
The judge himself was like "wow. Well regardless of the jury's verdict, I want to add that you, lady, do not have any respect for life at all".
>>
>>156089984
That's not vengeance, anon. That's self defense. And in most cases it's better that way.
If someone stabbed you, vengeance would be the stab them back. However thanks to self defense, instead you can just kill them.
So the OP is wrong because he can't read. Same as most people.

That's not quite what it is.
In the western perception sin separates us from God, and Hell is the consequences of total separation from God.
In orthodox thinking sin takes away our ability to experience God properly, so what is eternal bliss to a Christian is eternal torment to the unsaved.
I might be able to reconcile these two perceptions given 50 years to meditate in a hermitage.

>Even the bible says "thou shalt not kill", but then there's a whole section of asterisks that describe when it actually is okay to kill.

The actual translation is something more akin to thou shall not murder. It's a sin to kill needlessly and without cause but not if you are defending yourself, in a war, protecting someone else etc. But people interpreted it that it's a sin to kill for any reason and if someone tries to kill you better to just let them do it and go to Heaven early

Thing is that's also comic nonsense done entirely so Joker and Batman can duke it out every other week. In reality Joker going to jail would be it, he wouldn't be shooting his way out of maximum security prison every week.

Stupid people are always trying to murder their way out of problems they can't solve. They think that if they murder the right people all the problems will fix themselves on their own. And if the murdering is worse than the problems they're solving, so be it. They don't care. And if the murdering actually makes things worse, they just need to murder a little more.

That's what Jesus preached. Turn the other cheek and focus on the next life rather than this one.
And if you genuinely believe in Heaven and an eternal afterlife then it's a sensible policy. Best to let yourself be killed, setting an example of peace for everyone and guaranteeing yourself eternal bliss.
There's only one tiny flaw in the plan. It's bollocks.
