In case you haven't figured it out yet, Bruce is supposed to be a Christlike figure. Joker is obviously the Devil. The Joker meets Bruce and his friends with the same offers, limitless resources to achieve what "they" think is right. Bruce's friends take the deal at face value, unaware of The Joker/Devil's goals and the source of his power. Bruce rejects the temptations, as did Christ. Those left in Bruce's corner (Barbara, Harley, Alfred, and Selena) fit the role of the Apostles. Bruce's friends are the sinners, Bruce does not hate them despite their betrayal and seeks to redeem them.
