I don't understand you people
You hinge your entire enjoyment on a whole ass medium on two companies and one genre
>>

>two companies and one genre
All companies and all genres excluding licensed comics, modern strips, and Scholastic comics (excluded because I have zero interest in ever reading those).
>>
>>156080426
Well, if everything is so terrible perhaps you'd indulge us with a list of 50 or so titles so we can understand your point of view.
Surely that should be a paltry sum to put together considering, as you say, nothing is good.

Always funny to see these posts. Every single comic sucks. Marvel and DC sucks, okay. Then you realize that all cape also sucks. Oh okay, well what about everything else? 99% sucks. There are comics I always enjoy, like MM&O and some really obscure cape comics. The rest, other published comics, it's a big staggering pile of shit. People can't write and draw anymore. Everything looks so samey, cringy, or absolutely ugly. Plots are rehashed and have dumb plot twists, the dialogue is cancerous and artificial. Oh and they can't do good paneling. Most of /co/'s recs from the last two decades suck. Every single storytimed comic sucks. All published comics suck. There's some good shit online but it's not a lot, grim present

>>156081467
Wow anon that's a very mature and deep observation, good for you champ

>>
>>156080426
What comics do you even like?
>>
>>156081467
No see this is the issue, OP is right the comics suck, and it's because cape comics STOPPED being for kids, they stopped focusing on the male 6-15 demographic and started trying to appeal to adults male 18-55 and tumblr women. So now everything is "super serious mature" and whatever cause of the month bullshit women are going on about (BLM, the gays, immigration, rape, domestic abuse, giant coffees).
If comics just went back to predominantly one-shot stories with fun adventures, comics would start selling better.
>>
>>156081954
It's shit, just like the good underground comix from 5 decades ago, and I love it
>>
>>156082044
Cape stopped being for kids back in the 60s. The problen began in the 90s with all the edge and some dumb decisions both companies were doing, but everything went to shit in the 2000s. Writing self aware and ironic crap, ashamed of classic cape.
>predominantly one-shot stories
Another problem. 3-5 ISSUES FOR A SINGLE STORY

>>
>>156083477
>why aren’t old reprints from the 50s, 60s, etc. that did that dominating sales charts?
Because they aren't being printed, and when they are it's usually in giant fucking omnibi that cost a stupid amount and suck to fucking read, so people just use RCO (or whatever has replaced it).
>>
>>156083863
>Because they aren't being printed
Yes they are
>and when they are it's usually in giant fucking omnibi that cost
Nope. And why should it matter if all other comics suck and the demand is only for old timey kids comics, people should be willing to pay more for stuff they are starving for
>durrrr people will just pirate it
You are further undermining your whole argument.
>>
>>156080103
Comics are still good. You just got old and bitter because you have grown up to a point where you can’t get excited the same way you did when you were a child. You don’t have the sense of excitement and wonder of discovering new things like a small kid who for the first time finds something, so you blame new comics of being awful. It’s a complete misunderstanding of how personal tastes work.
>B-b-but I still like old comics!!
You simply like certain style tied to a very specific era in time. That doesn’t make newer comics bad. You just have just incredibly narrow taste. It’s no different from whining that music went to shit because people started to like jazz instead of classical music. Or that episodic tv slop was better than modern television where there are actual story arcs and development instead of characters never changing because muh format.

>>156083964
>You simply like certain style tied to a very specific era in time.
No, that's what comics are. Comics are what's tied to a specific era. Kids haven't liked comics for decades
>>
>>156080103
On the contrary! We are on the cusp of the greatest comics golden age the world has ever seen.

Right now as we speak, millions of people are developing a taste for cartoon fictional stories that are the unique artistic vision of single individuals, indie works. It's soo much more interesting than anything a corporate think tank could come up with, and it's soo easy to create. One person with a a pen and paper by themselves doodling in their bedroom can create the most breathtaking cinematic experience.

They're only young now, but they've infused with the right inspiration and as they grow up and learn to draw, there's going to be soo many great comics, you'll have enough comics to read to last the rest of your life, and none of them will be disappointing.
>>
>>156080339

>yfw you realize comics were never good
Comics were always mass-produced, hastily-written, low-effort slop meant to nickel and dime distracted kids out of their lunch money. That a few writers of a few issues of a few series occasionally elevated their work beyond that to the level of being considered an art form doesn't change the fact that comics in general were low-grade consumer slop, just like every other form of previously-cheap entertainment.

And there's nothing wrong with that, not everything needs to be art, some shit can just be cheap, disposable entertainment that you read once and forget. A kid smashing together action figures and having an imaginary narrative that "cape guy beats skull dude" isn't "playing action figures wrong" just because he doesn't have complex interwoven narratives and character arcs, anymore than a comic is "doing it wrong" just because it wants to do twenty pages of Batman BIF! BAM! BOSH! ing random goons instead of wallowing in sad origin story pity for the ninety-millionth time or making a whiny soapbox piece about the latest sociopolitical plight of underrepresented minorities. Yes, it's neat when a comic strives to be (and succeeds at being) more than that, but when everyone is trying to do that all the time (and constantly fumbling it) it just saturates the market with crap that takes itself too seriously.

The worst thing to ever happen to comics was people taking comics seriously.
