One of them claimed they only took what they needed. It's a weak justification. Any thief can explain he only took his victim's wallet or iPhone because he really, truly needed it. That need still won't excuse the theft. Also, the Faceless were not taking only what they needed. They were stocking up and gathering extra food, gear and animals for the expedition they were planning. They were actively making things worse for all the other Ellorans.The whole Faceless conflict could work better if the city was at war or something. If Ellora was forcibly conscripting benders to the frontlines, some soldiers could be conflicted. They might have friends on the enemy faction, or they might feel like the war is not justified. If so, deserting or switching sides would be a sympathetic action.But Ellora's dealing with constant natural disasters. There's no known way to stop them, and the citizens can only survive by working together. Being selfish in a situation like that makes the Faceless look awful.
