Halloween's this Saturday. The Nowhere King deserves a shout-out for being an S-tier villain.Wammas and Glennys welcome as always.
Rolling for Wammawink
>S-tierit's hard for me to give S-tier to villains that perpetuate their own problems. Maybe A-tier at best.
>>156065626It's hard for me to say the elktaur did it to himself when I honestly don't think a relationship with the princess could ever work out. The Elk may have believed things would have worked out better by wooing the Woman as a centaur, and the Woman claims she would have loved him as a centaur, but I think they're blinded by hindsight. Yes, things may have worked out better if the elktaur just pursued the woman himself, but that alternative would have likely ended with the elktaur's head on a stake instead of casting a world into a neverending war.
>>156065748Is it truly a tragedy if a poor outcome is inevitable? Or is it only a tragedy because of the poor choices a character makes when anybody else in their position would choose otherwise?
Is it just me, or was the Woman kind of a bitch? Ignoring her killing that ladybugtaur and stalking the herd, she was almost as shitty of a wife as the Queen in Wish. As far as we can tell, there were just two major lies in the marriage.1. The General was formerly the elktaur she threw a party for.2. The General imprisoned someone who was essentially himself.I can understand being hurt from the first lie initially, but why didn't she ask why he felt the need to lie? The elktaur did not hide his original identity to deceive her as much as he didn't feel he was good enough for her. Shouldn't that be met with empathy and understanding? The second lie seems like it has an easy solution- just make him reunite with the Elk. The General would take on the memories of the imprisonment of the Elk while the Elk would be happy to just be back to being half-human again. The Woman cries about being fed lies, but we never really see any more of those lies. She knew the Elk was half of her husband and she just turns him away from any further help. When you're in a partnership, you are obligated to be proactive in getting your partner help. She just kinda says "this isn't my problem" and does who the fuck knows for years until she is trapped in Centaurworld.
>>156065626I fail to see why that's an issue. The fact that he has deep internal issues he can never truly resolve makes him an amazing villain. He contrasts Horse perfectly.
>>156065545>>156068329best girls <3
>>156065545Wamma is great
>>156065264he was B+ when he had no lore and as soon as he got lore he dropped to D for>deercel
>>156071164I really don't see how he was an incel when he clearly had the Woman head-over-heels in love with him. He must have had some game to pull in a princess.
>>156071164The jump from "ancient unknowable lich-thing of unspeakable evil that has shaped the very definition of fear in this dimension" to "cringy edgelord who has been fucking around with his knock-off Sauron schtick for like twenty years tops" was a bit jarring.
>>156069298>The fact that he has deep internal issues he can never truly resolve makes him an amazing villain. That's a really pessimistic, vilifying message to come from this show. It's basically saying if you struggle with self-hatred, you're irredeemably evil. And a lot of people hate themselves. There has to be a better answer from a show that featured a suicide allegory.
>>156073472I also want to bring up how racism against centaurs is the root of the Elktaur's self-hatred yet the series never addressed any of the human world's prejudices. The Nowhere King war would have never happened if people weren't so racist. The worst is how racism will probably only get worse in the worlds and history will inevitably repeat itself. Nothing has been done to prevent any of it.
Who's on First?
>>156075571First... base?
>>156075571>relevant when holmes was convicted>relevant again with the new docevergreen gerenuktaur
>>156076192I didn't realize until you just said it that Megan was doing an impression of her
>>156074379centaurs are inferior to humans and should submit to them (sexually)
>>156077357How are centaurs inferior to humans? Everything in the show suggested otherwise. All centaurs have magic, they sing on cue, they can reach further, usually run faster, etc. Nothing was said about the benefits of humanity other than they only leave one set of footprints.
>>156065264The thumbnail made me think this was a picture of a monster with a massive amount of snot coming out of its nose, and it used its snot as hands.
>>156078123One of my favorite parts of Steven Universe was how much humanity was depicted as something special. Future kind of ruined that. I thought Centaurworld would have said something about the human condition that would make the audience appreciate our humanity but instead they implied humans are the real beasts and the human world is miserable.
>>156079847>they implied the human world is miserableI mean...
>>156073472Self-hatred IS the root of a lot of evil in the world though, it's hard to really deny that. I can't blame the show for going hard on saying that being mired in it will only increase self-destructive tendencies, and a support group to help you out of that is important. It's not saying your inherently evil for having those feelings, only that not working to deal with them is going to end badly.
>>156081202I think the opposite- the most evil people in power truly believe what they do is justified than are self-aware and spiral into a destructive existence. The former are constantly reassured because they're often rewarded for their evil deeds while the latter fizzle out alone with nothing more to burn. There are more Frollos than Bojacks in the world.Horse is lucky to have been taken under wing by Wammawink. I've pushed away from those types out of not feeling good enough.I feel like Meet the Robinsons delivered the message more effectively with Goob. Goob was offered multiple opportunities to make friends but he was too consumed in anger to see what was in front of him. It's pretty hard to save yourself from drowning. Lewis saved Goob from festering in the past. The Elktaur was possibly beyond saving, but I must stress his self-hatred came from society, not within.
>after getting centaurworldified, horse becomes depressed and dispondent>this depression, in part caused by her body dysmorphia, leads her to suicide>she ends up never getting her old body back, and instead must learn to love herself the way she is, and always will be.>the elktaur hated his body and saught to change it>in doing so, he set the events in motiom that would lead to every bad event in the show happening>also tried to kill himself in a waybased show.
>>156065545Wasn't expecting to fall for Wammawink when Centaurworld's first piece of teaser art dropped, but she's top-tier wife material <3
I hope Bad Fairies is good
>>156081428>There are more Frollos than Bojacks in the world.I have a hard time believing that when pretty much every notable douche causing insane amounts of damage can be boiled down to being a petty, insecure manchild with delusions of grandeur.
>>156083880I hope so too, but it'll likely be a casualty of the current box office where only the cultural cornerstones have a chance of hitting it big. It would be nice to be proven wrong, but that's the rule with very few exceptions.>>156084031Seems like the elites in charge, while petty, are usually pretty pompous and try to believe they can do no wrong. Still, with self-hatred and depression, you retreat and slink back into a hole where you can hide away and keep all your misery inside. I think terrorists and religious zealots think highly of themselves for their heinous actions. Some people just be shitty with no idea how much worse they make our lives.
>>156082805Are you insinuating Centaurworld is anti-gender transitioning? Because Ched lays an egg and thinks a skeleton is the father. The fuck is going on there?
>>156085908It's too absurd to be any kind of overt cultural commentary, anon
>>156085908i think it's pro glender-transitioning as in glendale transitioning into my wife
>>156086722I can only hope. The series is very pro-LGB. CD is canonically pansexual. If they're using pansexual instead of bi, they're probably pro-transgender as well.
hey new friend
>>156088906I'm glad we made it
>>156089051Hey, new friend!
>>156090110As long as you are with me I am hooooo~ooome!
>>156090521You came here to CENTAURWORLD
>>156073472>It's basically saying if you struggle with self-hatred, you're irredeemably evil.I'm not saying "it's not that deep" but I think it's fine for the show to say "this guy, specifically, was just unfixably broken".Hell, he might not have been unfixable - but the guy didn't exactly do a lot of reaching out, and did do a whole lot of picking the worst, most self-destructive options possible.Society might be the root cause, sure, but it's hard to blame society for the depraved manner in which he went about... well, everything.
>>156091552THOSE AREN'T THE LYRICS.While I was looking up the lyrics, I learned that the original lyrics for Glendale was "technically sure we are at war". Emphasis on the word are, suggesting Centaurworld was still at war during early development.
>>156092537I'm down with the show for declaring the elktaur irredeemable and Horse bringing up all the atrocities he has committed. It's poetic, just, unironically romantic, and compassionate to have the Woman be the one to put the elktaur out of his misery. I applaud it because for once it wasn't the hero committing the deed but the one who was hurt the most by the individual (if only The Owl House took note- the show was all wish fulfillment). What I do have a problem with is how the elktaur is the only centaur to adopt a human world form and he's the big bad. The show had nothing nice to say about the human world. By having the elktaur be the root of all evil, it communicates the idea that preferring the human world and wanting to be taken seriously is bad. They demonize the outcast. The worst part is the unaddressed racism as it opens the door for another elktaur situation to arise. Things are worse for both worlds now than they were before the elktaur met the woman; at least the humans coexisted and collaborated with centaurs to a degree.
>>156092537>but the guy [...] did do a whole lot of picking the worst, most self-destructive options possible.I honestly think the elktaur made the most rational decision when he split his human half from his animal half. While the racism against centaurs is at best casual, it's highly likely the racism is more than just a few comments. If it was made public a centaur had a romantic relationship with the human world princess, it would have ended with a lynching. The princess may have loved the elktaur, but it's not said whether they could actually be together. The general should have probably mentioned who he was and what he did to become human to the princess before marriage, though. It reminds me of how transgender women tend to not disclose they're biological males to their male partners and come the bedroom the partner attacks them for being tricked.
>>156095315I love Wamma's underbite
>>156094478>I honestly think the elktaur made the most rational decision when he split his human half from his animal half. The most rational decision would be to stay in his lane and not pursue the Woman.
>>156097754I know the Elktaur is a mass murderer and harbinger of destruction, but nobody ever brings up how the guy is a genius (in intellectual intelligence, not emotional intelligence). He invented the key, the device that merged and divides beings, and developed the vat for making super minotaurs. The elktaur was never appreciated for scientific progress or inventions. Not to mention the guy managed to rise through the ranks of the human army all the way to general presumably to marry the princess. It's all very impressive, but hey, we don't remember Hitler for his paintings.
>>156092612Honestly, the general timeline of things was a bit confusing for me. How long ago was the Nowhere King sealed in the in-between? Because a lot of the context clues seem to imply that it's at minimum several decades, because sometimes it feels like the implication is that the nowhere king has slipped into myth. But it seems like Wammawink at the very least was alive for when it happened. The general hasn't aged a day, which could be just the connection to the nowhere king, but then you see the woman, who has definitely aged, but not considerably. Not sure if there are any direct statements or information on it, but it always felt weird how sometimes it seems like the war is ancient history, and other times it feels like it only happened like 20 years ago.
>>156098260The timeline is all fucked up. While Mega Dong stated the Woman and the General retained their ages but they're both emaciated from the war. I'd say the General is at least a bit aged because the asset sheet (see pic) refers to the model of the General in that scene as GeneralYoungBChoking. His older model has the scar across his nose and lines under his eyes. There are three characters besides the Woman and the General who exist both before and after the war. Gary is seen in the flesh at the rift worker of the year party where he is yelled for his horse, presumably Becky Apples, who apparently was acting up. The beartaur also seems to exist as the Woman as the princess discusses how much she enjoyed the song "Hidin' Time" to that gerenuktaur that's not Glendale. It's weirder when you remember that the beartaur was making a scale model of the war and referencing the Woman's mural for accuracy, not his memory. I guess the references to Gary's horse and the creature to hide from could be a different horse and beartaur, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the intention.
>>156098424We might have gotten more elaboration if the show had gotten a season 3. If I remember right, there was an asset sheet for the rift flashback where we first see the Elktaur as well, and it said it was a Season 3 asset, I believe. We probably would have gotten more direct elaboration on the Nowhere King's backstory and maybe a better idea of the timeline of the war itself.
>>156098699>>156098424Actually I'm retarded, literally the one you posted also says season 3 on it. I'm a blind motherfucker
Cursed creature
>>156074379>I also want to bring up how racism against centaurs is the root of the Elktaur's self-hatred yet the series never addressed any of the human world's prejudices.A thing to note is that said racism is mostly just comments about how weird they are, and it only really affects Elktaur. Nobody else really cares, they know they're weird and are fine with it. It's Elktaur who already identified more with humans that took offense.
>>156099174Gonna quote >>156094478>While the racism against centaurs is at best casual, it's highly likely the racism is more than just a few comments. If it was made public a centaur had a romantic relationship with the human world princess, it would have ended with a lynching. The princess may have loved the elktaur, but it's not said whether they could actually be together.
Consider the following situation:>World where the Elktaur is approximately 5% less insecure >The night he had the talk with the princess at the party>Elktaur asks the woman if she's ever wondered what it's like to be a centaur, as he's wondered what it's like to be human>She, based on what characterization we have of her for that timeframe, would probably say yes>He asks her if she'd like to experience it>She questions what he means (and wonders if this some kind of innuendo) >He leads her to the in-between>Shows her his experiments>Shows that it is temporary, and there's no negative effects>There is a deer from the human world tied up>Just for a night, live as a centaur, that's his offer>He's not planning to keep her that way, moreso planning to use it to propose the idea of separating himself>She thinks is is kind of flonked up and voices it, albeit gently>Elktaur skips the pretense of it all and explains that he could do the same in reverse to himself>The woman is horrified at this idea>"Don't you know I love you the way you are?" >Reaches up, touches the stumps from him cutting his own antlers off>"...Whole." Good End
Consider the following situation:>Glendale steals you into her tummy portal>she's suddenly filled with a sense of fulfillmemt she never thought she would atain>she invert climbs into her own portal>you live out the rest of your days togetherGood end
>>156100700Cute until it's outed the princess is being plowed by a centaur, then cue the lynch mob. There's a reason the only other romantic relationship between a centaur and a human is Ched with Gary, but nobody cares when it's necrophilia.
>>156101222But then she'll never steal around you.
>>156103106she already stole the only thing that matters, my boner
>>156104175What really matters
>>156101898What could've been... :(
>>156105846That sums up what I think of the series. It honestly feels like Centaurworld had a different second half that was scrapped in order to feature the Nowhere King perfectly. They knew they had an S-tier villain and it feels like they discarded half of the writing to maximize the Nowhere King's presence & effectiveness. It would explain why season 2 was significantly weaker than season 1 yet why "The Last Lullaby", the episode/special finale that revealed the Nowhere King's backstory, was rated highest in the series. I have my issues with the tragedy of the Elktaur, but the Nowhere King was handled perfectly. It's so frustrating to me to see how many great ideas were sacrificed to strengthen the villain. Like, I don't know how you can deny how Rider looks like the General's daughter. There's a difference between sharing a few traits to establish a father figure relationship and being the girl version of the older male character down to how the hair falls. Rider looks more like the General than the General looks like the elktaur, and that's himself! Maybe having the deuteragonist be the daughter of the human half of a centaur would be too cliché or confusing, but it's right fucking there in every scene the General is in.
>>156105846Though the elktaur could escape persecution by splitting himself in half. But would the woman be okay with that if it was the only way he could remain alive and continue to plow her?
>>156098424>>156098699I remember just before season 2 released, that asset of the General choking was released. I honestly thought the water was actually the Nowhere King's black goo and the Nowhere King was uniquely torturing and killing the General. I wanted to believe the General would be good instead of another twist villain, but they had to go with the cliché of the leader of a patriarchy being selfish and evil...
>>156098699>>156098703Mega Dong has stated if Centaurworld were to receive a third season it would have been about Zulius's backstory. I remember reading somewhere she wanted the show to switch to a more episodic format. Given how weak season 2 was with more episodic stories, I'm glad that didn't come to pass. Either have a solid story to tell or don't bother.
>>156100402We only got to see a human ride a centaur once.If the elktaur and woman were able to form a romantic relationship, the woman would be riding him all the time.
>>156111237>literal bestiality
>>156065264Creepy
>>156067111Because something something women hate being lied to more than something bad being done to them.Usually that's the constant theme.>it's not so much that you tortured a piece of yourself created the minotaurs killed millions>it's that you lied to me about it
>>156067111>but why didn't she ask why he felt the need to lie?A huge point of the show was that their relationship was emotionally abusive. We see this with how she interacts with the Nowhere King, and how he constantly tries to shift the blame of his situation onto her. She was never in a proper position to help him to begin with because all she knows is the gaslighting. It's unreasonable to expect her to do anything but get the hell out of there.>The second lie seems like it has an easy solution- just make him reunite with the Elk.Anon he was literally torturing his better half in a basement like a psychopath by the time she found out. The general was never going to willingly reunite with Elk, the only reason he even kept him alive was out of necessity.
>>156112520I had no idea Centaurworld was nominated for an Ursa Major award. It's... it's for furries in the entertainment industry.
>>156114469>>156115722I'm a femanon, but I'm posting on 4chan so I don't exactly fit the stereotype of a typical woman, at least in interests and internet activity. Lying, important secrets, and delusions do upset me but I doubt that is limited to females. Pretty sure men don't like it when women say they're using protection when they plan on baby-trapping them. The Woman has a little bit of blame in the situation for not supporting the elk (half of her husband at the time) more upon release and for locking the Nowhere King in the rift, albeit accidentally. When was the relationship between the Woman and the elktaur and General ever emotionally abusive outside the secret identity and elk torture?Torturing a part of yourself seems analogous to cutting yourself or other forms of self-punishment. That seems like it should be first addressed with compassion and an attempt at treatment before bailing on the person. The General imprisoning the elk was probably short-sighted and the guy does seem he would be dense enough to not give it a second thought once the elk is out of sight. It was an awful decision that is challenging to defend. You're right that the general would never consent to reforming into an elktaur with the elk again except to punish himself.
I still stand by they should have made Horse and Rider fuse into a centaur.
>>156098260It's crazy that the island with the rift to the human world has no buildings remaining and the beach has been replaced with grass. Both sides of the rift erected giant monuments concealing the portals and flattened the framing statues around it. Like, if you're at war, why would you spend resources on doing that when the rifts were indefinitely disabled?
>>156121008
>>156065264Damn, someone actually still remembers centaurworld? That's cool.
>>156098260>But it seems like Wammawink at the very least was alive for when it happened.Tbf, it's a running gag at least in S2 that the cast is a LOT older than anyone assumes. Like, they're all close to/approaching middle age. So it does seem to be decades since the war.
