The Revenge of Sarah Gaunt!

Comics in this thread:
>Uncanny X-Men #37
>X-Men United #8
>Inglorious X-Force #10
>>
Bump if you're reading.

We're back again after the PHPanic forced this site to go read-only for the day.
>>
It’s been 30 issues coming, but it’s time to deal with you.
>>
>Weapon X-Finity ended up creating 4 bootleg Wolverines that Sarah is going to take for herself
What happened to her army of cultists >>145952866? Are these knock-offs that neither have proper healing factors and permanently unretractable claws not made out of adamantium because they cheaped out on both aspects that better?
And if Fawn (who last appeared during #30 >>154256561) ended up as one of the test subjects and Ezra claimed that they WERE going to make these experiments, that means these experiments happened after Monet left Graymalkin and took over the X-Men, which was confirmed to be less than a week. Did Fred Dukes end up doing these or what?

I also forgot to mention this last time, but Adjectiveless and Uncanny X-Men are going back to their regular 18 issues/year schedule starting this month. Wolverine seems to be back on a 12 issues/year schedule again though, which is weird since I personally think that the 18 issues/year schedule that it had when Shadows of Tomorrow kicked off actually helped the title a lot.

Kind of funny how we spent a bit of the last arc of going from point A to B using regular methods instead of just flying directly because Gabriel kept whining about it.

Previously in X-Men United, the X-Men were recovering from the fallout of the attack by the mysterious entity believed to be Shadow King when Wither and Blade suddenly came to visit. While Nightcrawler, Magik and Iceman decide to hold a class to try to distract the students from the attack, Wither reveals that following Krakoa, he had been turned into a vampire and became friends with Blade’s daughter Bloodline. However, she was recently kidnapped by a group of vampires which led to him contacting Blade and his investigation revealed that Bloodline’s kidnappers were in reality working for a mutant who wasn’t actually a vampire themself, but had instead copied vampire powers to turn humans into vampires loyal to them. As they suspect that the kidnapper had a hand in the attack on Graymatter Lane due to the timing of the events, this leads to Dani Moonstar and Prodigy agreeing to help them to find Bloodline.
Elsewhere, the mutant known as Superior reveals to her ally that now that she has kidnapped Bloodline, Blade will fall into their trap and in return she’ll get the money and classified intel needed in her master plan to bring control and order to mutantkind. Her ally? Lucas Cross – Blade’s father!

And now for Inglorious X-Force.
>>
Previously, the entity manipulating Cable attempted to make X-Force believe that Kamala’s future assassin was Domino, before Domino and her own X-Force invaded the base to stop Cable. Cable immediately led Kamala to a machine that she needed to power using her mutant powers so that it could teleport them away, while the rest of the team had to hold off the attack. During the battle, Boom-Boom ends up accessing the tape recorder that Cable was using which revealed about Cable’s true nature and how the entity possessing him would use Kamala’s assassination to rule the world in the aftermath of the war caused by it. The entity, revealing itself as Catharsix, uses the machine to timeslide to the date of Kamala’s assassination to finally finish the timeloop! But can X-Force prevent it before it’s too late?
>>
>>
>>
>>
There he is! Stop him before it’s too late!

>>
>Cable is going stay behind and repair the damages that he caused

>>
So far everything about this issue has gone smoothly. Catharsix got killed, the assassination got prevented and the team has returned back to the present.
So why is there a sequel miniseries to this…?

Man Simone really likes to drag things out, seemed like a good time to finally wrap up this Sarah arc but then she decides to just leave and the Uncanny team just let them? Especially when they make a remark how the Wolverine clones are still inexperienced with using the claws, they are gonna let them train and prepare? I hope someone from the team actually dies to this dumbass decision.
>>
>X-men United is doing a vampire storyline whilst Midnight X-men is all about vampires
Wonder if this would cause confusion for some readers who might mistake both as connected.
>>
>>155996051
If we take the solicits for the next issues seriously, the next 3 issues seem to be about the bootleg Wolverines deciding to go after one of the Outliers (probably Howler) while the 2 issues after that is Sarah's return

I think they just needed another book on the Shadows of Tomorrow soft relaunch to keep up appearances and disguise the failure of From The Ashes but since Gail and Jed's direction are so divorced from one another there was no easy place to wedge in another team book... >Character created to push back against Dubya Era Islamophobia
>X-Office frames her as a durka durka terrorist

Truly the Mutant Metaphor is a universal civil rights allegory
>>
>>155996245
They either should have made it the JLU of the X-Books and have all the titles tie-in to the events, or go all-in on the Avengers: The Initiative and have focus be on all the new mutants of this era training with the Exceptional X-Men cast
But because both of these requires Brevoort to actually do his job and have constant communication with the writers and editors of the books, he basically went the lazy route of creating a bootleg Krakoa with almost none of the strengths and features that people actually liked

On a side note, did Brevoort stealth cancel X-Men Outback?

Issue five came out this week and said it was the final issue but I could have fucking sworn that the book was solicited to run eight issues. Did it sell that fucking ad that they shelved the release of the last three issues?

Look man I don’t actually think DC’s comics are great on the whole but ffs their stable of artists is so much better than marvel at the moment. And really for a few years now. All of the art in marvel’s ongoings is absolutely fucking hideous. I can’t name a single one that isnt just as ugly.
>>
>>155996196
>>155997999
Simone didn't really want to write Monet. She just threw her in so no one asks her about the lack of any established black characters in New Orleans. She does not give a fuck about Monet and Rogue will be the one to end Greymalkin while Monet and Pietro look like shitters who got nothing done.
>>
>>155998093
I think Juan Frigeri is as good as Luciano Vecchio and better than Netho Diaz even though he's clearly aping David Marquez. For a marvel style guy he's not so bad but he gets fucked mogged by C list DC artists.
>>
>>155998093
Mora (on multiple books a month), Sherman (on multiple books a month), Jimenez (even if he’s been pumping out lazy trash for the past few years), harren, dragotta, corona.

Sure they have ugly books like zatanna, deathstroke and a few others but marvel doesnt have a single one that looks even pleasant.
>>
>>155998128
His art here is fucking atrocious. That being said marvels major weakness is also their stable of colorists. The colors are absolutely eye-raping on every page ITT. It’s been a problem for years. It’s what sets momoko’s watercolors apart so much. They have awful colorists and it seems they oversaturate company-wide. Idk if it’s for their printer but they’d be better off telling every colorist to flatten their colors to one layer, reducing them to 70% transparency and then submitting. They’d at the berry least be less muddy.
>>
>>155998219
Very least*
>>
>>155998109
>She just threw her in so no one asks her about the lack of any established black characters in New Orleans.
Nah I reckon its damage control for how one of the criticisms a while ago about how the fuck did Greymalkin catch Monet, so she made it turn out that Monet got herself captured and is somehow "friendly" with the warden, despite the issue where it happened was the warden unceremoniously walking past Monet who wasn't even the focus of the panel.
>>
>>155994370
Graymalking is just down the street from New Orleans
>>
>>155998314
Monet appeared in the first issue where she was shown fighting the Outliers. I think she was gonna be brainwashed like Siryn before being freed or breaking off on her own then Simone dragged her fat ass for nearly two years instead of working on her main plot. So Monet just awkwardly skipped a bunch of the arc she was gonna have in this book.
>>155998180
>Sure they have ugly books like zatanna
Zatanna's a gorgeous book. The story is mediocre. If Campbell wasn't a Black man you'd glaze him more than Nick Dragotta and James Harren who are both terrible artists.

Do you have any idea how much it sucks being poor as a vampire? All the ancient bloodsuckers have these massive gloomy castles form hundreds of years ago and, sure, the modern generation gets sexy leather dance clubs but all of that costs. The goddamn bloodsprinklers alone keep clotting and you need to call out Roto Rooter, and then you keep having to call Roto Rooter from further out because you ate the last guys who showed up. When they wanted to make a character like Athena for Korea, they made May Lee who has a frog motif. Actually, an evil savate practitioner who idolizes Batroc might be interesting. >>155996867
This chick is Italian, Justina LaGuardia
And her power is the Hope Summers thing. She copies mutant powers and immediately uses them better than the owner

There was a backup story in one of those shitty Giant Size X-Men oneshots last year starring Kamala jumping through X-Men history.
This woman met Xavier when he was recruiting the ANAD X-Men to save the O5 from Krakoa, and she overpowered Xavier with his own telepathy.
She read his whole history and decided she didn't want anything to do with him
>>
>>156009285
Maybe, maybe not. Depends on who you ask since that's subjective as hell. However I am a firm believer that the villain is a wash. They tried to bust out a brand new super strong villain who nearly killed Wolverine of all people. Unfortunately to try to build her up they backgineered her into Xavier's past as some smitten lover we never knew existed who just happens to be a super powerful swamp hag now.

The end result feels very trite and uninteresting. But then I felt the same about Graymalkin prison run by a nobody who nevertheless had enough resources to take down very powerful mutants AND had her own goddamn Sentinel program. After all the shit with Orchis this felt extremely improbable. Third parties dabbling in super robot anti-mutant tech that nearly wiped out the goddamn planet? At least ONE has more history and is part of the government. Stupid as they are, they're at least in-house and it's easy to believe the Marvel US gov is that dumb.

To put it simply, we're supposed to believe that Wolverine can stab the swamp bitch but not just hack off her limbs and then her head. Problem solved. Just snikt a bub already, Wolvie.
>>
Gaunt might have made more sense if they tried to tie it into more recent events, like something left over from Mommy Righteous (I only pick her because they went with a magical based threat). Either something made as a "fuck you" contingency against mutants or something powerful Mother Righteous added to her magical collection which got out after her defeat. Right or wrong, it blames mutants for being imprisoned. It can even blame Orchis too for all I care, but with Orchis gone it turns its full attention to mutants. That feels like it has more weight by building off of recent material while allowing the story to move in new directions.

Not sure why the writer went with Xavier having another crazy ex girlfriend. Poor Moira really got the shit end of the stick already. Talk about character assassination, right down to killing Banshee and wearing his skin.

Ah, the thread is still up. We got the first lettered preview of Maximum X-Men #1 along with an interview with Yost and Daniel.
>As the dust settles on the Marvel Universe, who will fill the Avengers-sized void left in Armageddon’s wake? The answer lies in MAXIMUM X-MEN #1, where writer Christopher Yost and artist Tony S. Daniel assemble an all-new X-Men team that will step up to the plate as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Led by Storm, the elite team brings together mutant Avengers and X-Men mainstays to stop a full-on invasion from the Negative Zone.

>Dubbed “The Avenger Situation,” the series’ first arc pulls no punches as the X-Men battle hordes of inter-dimensional invaders. Get an exclusive first look at MAXIMUM X-MEN #1 with the lettered preview and read on as Yost and Daniel tease what’s in store for the upcoming series!

>MARVEL.COM: Tell us more about the mission statement of the MAXIMUM X-MEN team in a post-Armageddon world.

YOST: It’s a much harder world for Super Heroes after the explosive events of Armageddon. And while Wolverine’s got his team of street-level heroes, the days of Captain America, Iron Man and Thor seem to be over. So, who steps up to fill the void they left behind when world-ending threats arrive?

The 1984 Secret Wars series was foundational for me. And one of my favorite moments in it was when the X-Men volunteered to deal with Galactus as Captain America and the rest of the heroes went to take down the various super villains. And I loved that. In my mind, that’s what MAXIMUM X-MEN is, the X-Men reminding the world they’re heroes. It’s not about mutants or humans; it’s about saving the world.

>MARVEL.COM: Storm is the leader of this X-Men team. What parts of her character do you hope to explore in this role as MAXIMUM X-MEN unfolds?

YOST: Storm’s led the X-Men before. She’s been a thief, queen, sorceress, and a goddess even. The hope here is to fuse all those things together into a kind of Maximum Storm. If you read my X-Men: Worlds Apart (2008) mini-series, you’ll get a pretty good idea of what I think of Ororo. She does not compromise.

>MARVEL.COM: MAXIMUM X-MEN enlists many mutant heroes. How did you decide who made the cut for this roster?

YOST: Tom Brevoort and I talked about the team and what vibe we were going for. Classic Claremont/Lee era is where we landed. Characters like Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Psylocke, Bishop, it feels like classic X-Men. Adding in a few new additions and some of our favorites like Firestar and Justice, and even introducing a new character in issue #2. We wanted a good mix of powers and personalities and I’m excited to be able to write this team together.

>MARVEL.COM: The roster assembled in MAXIMUM X-MEN packs quite the punch. Were there any characters whose powers you were excited to show off with your art in this first arc?

DANIEL: There are so many of them, it’s a bit hard to say just one. I’m just drawing most of these characters for the first time, save for Wolverine, who I’ve been able to get a couple variant covers for in the past. But I’m loving Storm’s effects and her flowy hair, the billowing cape and electricity around her. She’s been fun.

I also am having a wonderful time drawing Betsy. We’re seeing a lot of her butterfly effects throughout the issues, and she has that sword and shield. I think I’ll work in her staff at some point, it’s too cool not to. I’m having a ton of fun with everyone though; I couldn’t be more excited to work on these characters with Christopher.

>MARVEL.COM: What was it like working together on MAXIMUM X-MEN?

YOST: It’s a dream come true. Tony’s so excited to be on X-Men, and that excitement is coming through in the pages. This was always meant to be an action book, and the first two issues are basically nothing BUT action… and Tony is delivering in a way that makes me literally giddy. Just you wait.

DANIEL: I’ve been a fan of Christopher’s for some time. He thinks so big, and so cinematically, it’s fun to read and work from his scripts. He’s a very visual writer. Every description, to me, it’s as if I’m working with a writer/director, I can see what he’s trying to convey clearly. A lot of his scenes read like a big-budget movie; his action scenes are very large and epic. But his quiet scenes have a lot of movement in them as well. It’s as close as I’ve come to drawing a movie. It’ll be worth all the work we’re pouring into this series, and I think fans will be excited to see what’s in store!
