My Mom used to call KFC Champs Chicken. We are in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.In the 50's some dude bought a KFC franchise and it was named locally Champ's Kentucky Fried Chicken. There ended up being close to 20 Champ's KFC around the province. In 1991 the franchise owner sold the stores back to KFC corporate and that's when the Champ's was dropped and the normal KFC branding came into effect.
I had the occasion to visit Tennessee on a work trip and while there I got to try Gus' Chicken. It was the best fried chicken I've ever had.
