I'm trying to get into fish. Well not 'into' into, I already like a good salmon or tilapia filet. But I want something that's got some heft to it, that goes well with rice and roasted vegetables. I know tuna steak is pretty legit, but I want something where if I were to eat it daily it wouldn't slowly kill me. I currently eat frozen hamburgers, pork sandwiches and whatnot from the gas station that I partially thaw under my ass while I work, so I figure I can't get much worse.

Pic related is the kind of thing I'd like to have, just not tuna all the time. I love a good cucumber medley.

    >I want something that's got some heft to it
what does that even mean? you mean you're a fat fuck and you want to gorge yourself?

    >I currently eat frozen hamburgers, pork sandwiches and whatnot from the gas station that I partially thaw under my ass
I don't think anything I recommend is going to help you. I really don't even understand what you're asking.

I'm not a fish guy, seeing as I hate the "fishiness" of it. Still fish dishes can be delicious if baked low and slow for a long time until all or most of the fishiness is baked out of it, leaving you with a nice tender juiciy, oily meat. Can't go wrong with salmon.

Ahi tuna steaks are great too. You can cook them like a regular steak to good effect. Red snapper down in Jamaica is super delicious. Dunno how they do it. People keep telling me to eat branzino at restaurants but those same restaurants sell creamy pastas so it'll never win when money is involved.

He wants a big meaty piece of fish like a tuna steak or swordfish steak or something like that.
    >>
    >>22265491
Tilapia is thin, flimsy, I want like, the steak of fish. But something flakier is fine too. Basically, I'd like guidance on what a good fish dinner is.

Look I don't pretend that I have good dietary choices right now, but I figure it's time for a change.

    >>22265492
I don't mind doing something in the oven for the proper low n' slow, or an air fryer for something more crisped. Snapper sounds interesting though, good to know.
    >>
    >>22265491
    >what does that even mean?
Some fish is more fragile when cooked than others and anon wants suggestions on fish that are less fragile. Did that really need to be explained to you? How many types of fish have you eaten?
    >>
    >>22265497
Swordfish or tuna or other big strong fish like that is what you're looking for. Unfortunately the meat fish are expensive and high in heavy metals because they eat the lesser races of non meat fish.
    >>
    >>22265480
Post your cucumber medley recipe and I will tell you my fish secrets
    >>
    Monkfish
    >>
    >The meatiest fish are those with dense, firm flesh that holds up to high-heat cooking like grilling or searing, often compared to steak or lobster. Key varieties include monkfish, which has a dense, lobster-like texture; halibut, known for its large flakes and robust, sweet flavor; and swordfish, a billfish with a steak-like consistency.

    >Other highly regarded meaty options include tuna (particularly bluefin and yellowfin), which offers a rich, beef-like texture when seared; salmon, prized for its fatty, succulent, and satisfying meaty bite; and mahimahi, which has a firm texture similar to chicken breast. Cobia and chilean sea bass are also frequently cited for their substantial, rich, and buttery textures.

I don't really have a recipe, but I generally do:

    >4 parts cucumber
    >4 parts diced roma tomatoes (or fresh locally grown whatevers if i can get em)
    >1 part jalapeno or hatch chili
    >lightly salt, then drain the juices after letting sit for an hour or two (optional but i like having less moisture to pool at the bottom of the tupperware)
    >montreal steak seasoning blend and those crystallized lime packets, 1 packet (or 2 if i dont salt to drain some moisture)

Although if I'm having the medley with something spicy and flavorful already, I nix the seasoning blend and jalapeno.

Sorry to burst your bubble, OP, but tilapia in the U.S. is toxic garbage. It's raised in tanks at companies like ADM/Decatur, Illinois, where its sole diet comprises pellets made onsite of ag waste like livestock feed corn husks and stems that were saturated with herbicides, pesticides and dessicated with glyphosate. Tilapia are not tested because they are farmed in a controlled environment. I know this firsthand and have nothing further to say beyond I believe that what certain companies are doing today qualifies as crimes against humanity.

    catfish sandwich is pretty dope
but if by “heft” you mean a big fish then I recommend a shark or something, people do eat those

    >Tilapia are not tested because they are farmed in a controlled environment.
This is bullshit but nothing I say will override the tiktok influencer who said what makes you feel smart. Tilapia sucks anyway but you're a fucking retard.
    >>
    >>22265480
Sole is obviously the best fish but expensive.
Cod is the best for its money.
    >>
    >>22265493
OP do not eat tuna or swordfish. Both are apex predators and have more mercury in their flesh than an ancient Chinese emperor's tomb. I know it sucks but we poisoned the ocean so it is what it is. Deenz and salmon are basically the only fish you can eat regularly, and by "regularly" I mean "absolutely no more than once per week".

    >This is bullshit but nothing I say will override the tiktok influencer who said what makes you feel smart.

I've never viewed TikTock. I did work as an engineer for a contractor at ADM. I know what they are doing. I investigated other tilapia farming ops as well. I knw what I stated is true, and I enc I urage you personally to eat as much ADM tilapia as you can cram down your toxic gullet. Eat them fishes, retard.

    Turbot, maybe sea bass
    >>
    >>22266167
can I eat ‘chovies once a week
    >>
    >>22266174
Ya 'chovies are right next to salmon and deenz on the chart.
    >>
    >>22266101
Catfish is a pretty good pick and it's everywhere around here, just fried. I honestly don't think I've even tried grilled catfish.
    >>22266167
God we suck. I'd just do shellfish but that's out of my price range to do routinely.

At least salmon's not failed yet, I suppose. Has anyone tried making tuna salad but with canned salmon?
    >>
    >>22266167
iirc you can eat salmon and deenz literally every day with no worries

this chart is for women who are trying to get pregnant. an adult man who is not pregnant can eat anything from the "safe" list pretty much with impunity. you should learn differences between which oceans and regions fish are caught in obviously but salmon certainly isn't a once per week fish.
    >>
    >>22266172
Anything line-caught, in season >>> floating factories/frozen fish. Sea bass is farmed now,
it's worthless unless line-caught, in season). It's infuriating.
    >>
    >>22265497
    Try cod or haddock
    >>
    >>22266183
Can you do something to diminish the oily texture of canned fish like that? I tried eating deenz awhile back but it was just salt and oil with some fish texture
    >>
    albertsons used to have shark
you had to soak it in milk to remove the urine or whatever
    large chunks, flour, deep fry
    pretty good
    >>
    >>22265480
I like salmon, sturgeon, cod, and sardines. If you like the patty form factor they make salmon patties that are pretty good, Trident is the brand I’ve had and I usually have it on some bread with a wedge of laughing cow cheese spread on it. Smoked trout and salmon are also tasty
    >>
    >>22265480
I have cooked a lot with Tilapia and have found a few ways to cook some flavour into this rather boring fish but you are after something 'meaty' ?

I would suggest Cod, Haddock, Halibut or Monkfish, the latter two are the best but costly.

Mackerel and Pilchards are also pretty good but I'm not sure they are readily available in the States.
    >>
    >>22266761
why don't they just demercury the fish?
    >>
    >>22266167
Salmon sardines and anchovies you can eat all you want as long as its from a decent source, they don't bioaccumulate like tuna swordfish sharks etc because they're not high enough on the foodchain
    >>
    >>22268660
All you have done is paraphrase what the anon has already said.
    >>
    >>22268660
No, that anon said 'at most once a week' and I said as much as you want since the merc levels aren't an issue in those
    >>
    >>22265480
    >I already like a good salmon
Well there you go. Salmon is low-mercury and you can eat it regularly without any fear.
