Damn Costco biscuits went moldy in four days. Six dollars in the trash today. Makes me wonder:How many dollars of food do you accidentally waste per week or month?
>>22263085not all that much, when I buy things like fresh produce I try to use it up quickly. I’m pretty good about not letting my leftovers go to waste.
>>22263085>biscuitslook more like moldy buns
Roughly zero unless you count the root-ends of spinach bunches or that we don't use veg scraps for stock.
>>22263085You should have frozen them within a Ziploc.Microwave to thaw, as needed.(as it' the perfect steaming device)If you don't believe me, try it with one.
>>22263085I had to stop buying their bagels because I could only eat 3/8 before they molded. They mold uniformly all the way down the sleeve so you know they are being contaminated on the cooling rack before packaging. All their baked goods are suspect desu. The baguettes haven't been jeeted yet but once they do I'm done with their bakery. They used to have really good bread.
>>22263224>They used to have really good bread.lollmao even
>>22263224Freeze a pack you retard. Anyways, their baked goods were a little too economical before, you could get a 6pack of gigantic muffins for like $5
Just last night I ordered some food for my gf since she's sick and I'm out of town for work. It was about $80, including some cold and flu meds. The food took forever to get to my house, it was cold, and she said she was feeling too tired and weak to warm it up so she just put it in the fridge.I know damn well that girl doesn't eat leftovers. I'm gonna be throwing that moldy shit in the trash when I get home.
>>22263242You don't understand... the products are contaminated on the production line. Some filthy jeet is touching the goods with their unwashed shit encrusted fingers and that's why they mold so fast. Freezing them doesn't kill the germs.
>>22263085I enjoy how single people without friends or family are consistently punished like this.
>>22263251retard
>>22263251You have schizophrenia.
>>22263256>>22263257>>22263258Found the filthy jeet with unwashed shit encrusted fingers!
>>22263085This is actually a packaging issueThese packets are not supposed to be airtight when storing bread. A little bit of air flow is necessary to keep out the fungal spores.I have made this mistake many times, if you seal your container very tight and it is essentially a tight, your bread will get moldy very quickly.I don't know exactly how and why it does it, but I have seen it happen.
>>22263085>best if used by 5 days ago
>>22263085More than I’d like. I’m not sure which is morally better but I’ll buy more food than I can use before it goes bad, if the cost of what I eat is cheaper than buying exactly that amount, potentially at a lower quality. This happens often with eggs
>>22263423How? Eggs last basically forever.
>>22263085none per week or month. maybe $5-10 a year. and that is when im down to the last stuff in the pantry and i start mixing it with leftovers and the result is gross and i throw it out. i used to be homeless and suffer from food insecurity so i don't waste much more than some of a head of iceburg if i buy one to make tacos and dont feel like using the rest
>>22263086Same. I just threw out most of a bag of mini-peppers though, bought them to make omelets and then, uh, didn't.I keep most stuff portioned out and frozen until I'm ready to use it. Takes a few hours to thaw whenever I want to make a meal.
>>22263224>They mold uniformly all the way down the sleeve so you know they are being contaminated on the cooling rack before packaging.Sounds like a "your Costco" issue. You should (1) return your unused bagels for a full refund, and (2) explain to them that this happens all the time and it's because their bakery is heavily contaminated with mold. They'll probably at least make an effort to clean the place if you do.
a lil bitI only buy perishable premade food if I'm going to eat it basically as soon as I get home. Otherwise it's stuff that needs cooking, e.g. raw meat, dry beans, etc.
>>22263425I’ll buy a pack of 2 dozen for baking stuff and I’ll usually end up with a few left when they expire
>>22263479Are you just tossing them when the sell by date rolls around? They’re still good.
I would rather see that food molds instead of bullying corporations into using more preservatives. Shoulda taken care of yourself
>>22263085>palm oilHighly processed seed & vegetable oil apologists ignorant of nutrition and metabolism will tell you it's fine. What you're seeing is how said oils OXIDIZE RAPIDLY, obliging PRESERVATIVES to compensate. It's not cheaper. It's not better. It adds zero to negative flavour. Avoid the right ingredients, or be pennywise and pound foolish. You are what you eat. This >>22263187 Then you get bonus glycemic index gains by ~ 30% (and again if you toast it). This works for most things with starches.
>>22263085you have to keep bread in the fridge, it makes it last for months.
>>22263085I don't understand people who are willing to eat biscuits that were baked more than 24 hours ago, especially when frozen biscuits exist.
>>22263085you should avoid fresh baked goods from that costco. they obviously don't keep their work surfaces, utinsils and machinary sanitary. no reason for fresh baked biscuits to go MOLDY after 3 days or whatever
>>22263536Mold is in the air, friend
>>22263534>you have to keep bread in the fridgeNever keep Breads or Biscuits in the fridge.Always FREEZE themThe refrigerator actually ACCELERATES the starch staling process.
>>22263530>>palm oilIs actually a healthy, Saturated fat. (as long as it's not Hydrogenated in order to mix with a seed oil)It's NOT a seed oil.For decades, the mass produced cookies and other pastries used such.
>>222635363-4 days is a normal timeframe for bread to get moldy. Anything that consistently lasts longer than that does so because of preservatives.
>>22263556Thats bullshit. Doubly so if you buy or bake an actual loaf.
>>22263578Wrong
>>22263598Proper woodfire oven bread stays fresh for a week minimum. You're eating garbage while paying premium. You're being scammed out of your hard earned money.>>22263578Correct.
>>22263085keep them in the fridge you idiot. even home made need to be refrigerated if not used quickly.
>>22263605>bread stays fresher longer if you cook it in an even more contaminated environment???
The USA is rekt. They accept anything substandard just because they've been indoctrinated to be servile bootlickers.
>>22265289obsessed
>>22263085Have a few teens around. Between them opening things like retards or just leaving open bags add containers around the house about 50% of what we buy is wasted.
>>2226347999% likely that every egg you throw away is 100% fine.
>>22263493>>22265327Yeah I suppose I’m being overly cautious, I’m not egg savvy
>>22263085why would you buy biscuits and not eat any of them in 4 days? you couldve waited 4 days then bought biscuits.
>>22265925I ate two of them
>>22265925People love wasting money on food, throwing it in the garbage and then getting upset about it. OP is literally cursing biscuits because he ate two and left the rest of them on the counter for four days... then says it was an accident
Should be making your own biscuits, anyways. They're one of the easiest bread products you can make. Barely takes more time and effort than cracking a tube of pre-made dough.
>>22263224IMPORTANT UPDATE: no mold on the plain NY style bagels from BJs after 6 days. Imagine that. Same ingredients, no chemical preservatives.
>>22265922If you're really worried, do the sink test.
>>22263413This. Biscuits are kind of moist and shouldn't be left in tight storage.
>>22263085Not a lot. Celery usually goes limp before I use it all. Jalapenos get squishy before I use the whole pack too. I did have some cheese go moldy on me super quick the other week which was weird. It was a sharp cheddar and after 3 days of being opened it had mold all over it. Don't know what happened
>>22265922Even american eggs will last a month past the printed date as long it's in the fridge though by that point they won't exactly taste the same as a fresh egg
>>22266840Thank you for the update
>>22263085>palm oil sconesDisgusting.
>>22263248>I know damn well that girl doesn't eat leftoversSorry you settled for tossing your genes into the dumpster.
>>22266874>It was a sharp cheddar and after 3 days of being opened it had mold all over it. Don't know what happenedSounds like it was packaged too wet (and maybe you have a mold problem in your fridge).Cheese keeps better if you rewrap it in waxed paper (as it lets the cheese stay dry). Also, you can usually scrape small amounts of mold off the surface; you don't have to lose the whole cheese.
>>22263085>How many dollars of food do you accidentally waste per weekNot much. I'm careful about not getting too much at once, and I'm careful about picking things in the store so that they last until I'm ready to use them. The freezer is your friend.>>22263224I really wouldn't buy any bread at all from that Costco. They've got a contamination problem.
>>22265312Have you considered not being a shit parent and instilling some discipline in your children? They will come to resent you later in life because you didn't instill in them good virtues.
>>22263085I don't waste food ever. We grew up poor so even when I have money I don't want to buy more than I can eat before it goes bad.
>>22263578My homemade bread stays good for a week if I leave in on the cutting board just out cut side down, but it I put in a big Tupperware, it's molded in a few days. Humidity is my guess but idk.
Imagine being so retarded to not have a freezer for bread.
>>22269001Imagine owning so little meat that there is space for bread in the freezer.
