Why don't some of you own a rice cooker yet? It's only $10 to $20 for one.
>>22262216because i know how to cook rice without one.
I do THOUGH
>>22262216Because I own a pot.
>>22262216Considering your concession to people who don't buy them why would we?
I own neither a toaster nor a rice cooker
>>222622161. potatoes mog rice bigly2. toasters can be used to heat stuff
>>22262216I just cook rice in my toaster
health concern required highly restrictive diet. rice is one of the things i can still eat in large quantities as a staple. bought quality nip cooker. have now set up a routine where i add the rice/water in morning, set timer, return home to rice smelling apartment, eat dinner. it's not bad. i sort of understand the appeal now even if you aren't required to have this sumo wrestler diet.
>>22262260teach me your ways
>>22262262Protip: You can do the same thing for oatmeal at breakfast. Set it at night on a timer, wake up to hot oatmeal.
>>22262216Too much of a unitasker to be worth the space.
>>22262216I don't own a toaster either.
>>22262278protip: oatmeal cooks in 3min, no gay soaking required
>>22262216Those cheap rice cookers break far too quickly.
>>22262216>own a rice cooker yet?i do.
>>22262282>>22262278oatmeal is already gay so the soaking doesn't make it more gay.
>>22262216A pot does the job better.
>>22262255ketotard detected
>>22262775I also don't own a toaster or a rice cooker, a stove and some pans are more than enough.
>>22262216I bought this one 8 years ago.10/10 buy.Throw the rice and water in, take a shower, and it's done. This model talks to me in Korean. It even makes choo chooo noises when the steam purges. If your rice cooker doesn't have Japanese, Korean or Chinese writing on it, it's probably trash.
the cheap ones are ass and its not worth paying premium for good ones

>>22262776that’s nice you were born into a life of luxury. I’ve got a campfire in the driveway, and good luck getting next on the cooking stick.
>>22262792No one is too poor to not be able to avoid a place to live, a stove and pans.
>>22262216One of the best purchases I ever made. Sometimes I fall asleep with rice still in it from the night before and the rice is still good in the morning since it keeps it warm all night.
>>22262216doesn't do anything i can't do with my air fryer
>>22262781I got no complaints with this cheap little pos from walmart.

>>22262229I know how to cook toast without a fucking toaster, but I sure as shit have one.
I make toast in my rice cooker
>>22262780Where's the "honey we're finished" timer?
I have had a power pressure cooker XL for almost 11 years. It does a good job with rice. Beans too. Why would I need something else to do it?
what are some other things you can do with the rice cooker? I have been using one for about 2 years now but surely you can make more with it? All I do now is throw in sauces or like some precooked ingredients to heat up with the rice while the cooker is still warm.
>>22262780lol
>>22262216Rice is by far the worst of the big three, so I shan't be buying a utensil that solely exists to cook it.
>>22263703big three?
>>22263713I think he means potato, pasta and rice? I would consider pasta the worst of those 3. A good pasta dish is made by the sauce and/or cheese, not the pasta itself. Potatoes are so versatile but a hassle depending on what you are doing with it. In the time you can cook a simple potato dish you can make 2 rice or pasta dishes.
Who here soaks/washes their rice? Do you filter the water you use? What's the best rice and why does basmati suck ass?
>>22263738Instant mashed potatoes KINGS rise up!
>>22263802I don't bother with rinsing. I used to do it but I honestly see/smell/taste no difference.
>>22262216The Rice cooker can also cook other dishes too. Like for example, steamed egg/egg-custard
>>22263802>>22263807The purpose of rinsing rice is to wash away things like dust and dirt as well as starch, especially the excess starch. The number of cycles to rinse depends on whether you want the rice to be sticky or not.
I own a rice fucker (I mean me, I like to fuck food)
If you don't have a Zoji for your rice SHUT THE FUCK UP
>>22262216Toasters can cook hasbrowns
>>22262216useless for risotto
>>22262304I've only used cheap rice cookers and never had one break. I only bought a new one because I wanted a stainless pot instead of aluminum.
>>22263738>A good pasta dish is made by the sauce and/or cheese, not the pasta itself.I agree but if I had to choose between the two I'd have to pick pasta.
>>22264203over rice that is. potato mogs both.
I want a high end jap rice cooker that is small though because i'm a single man. any recs? like a 2 cup cooker.
>>22264205>any recsI recomend you to get a pan
>>22264205
>>22262216I genuinely don't understand what it supposedly does better than boil-in-bags.
>>22264229>boiling plasticAnon, I...
Because I can cook perfect rice in my 2qt saucepan
>>22262216The cheap ones are NOT worth it. They burn the rice. You need to drop more like $60-80 for a proper machine to get proper rice. Otherwise the stove is FAR better. Hell a crockpot is better, albiet slower.
>>22263148How often do you use the steamer tray?
>>22262257Rice is better for fish dishes, cream sauces, and curries. Also, gyudon, katsudon, and oyakodon mog. Potatoes are better with meat gravy.t. potato lover but realistic
>>22262216I have a pot with a glass lid. Dont need no uni-tasker cloggin up my already stuffed counters.
>>22263134>warm all night.>breeding ground for bacteria. You're an absolute retard. You are legit going to die from that thing if you keep it up.
i look like this AND i say this
>>22265438many such cases
>>22265438FUCK toasters
>>22262216I've been cooking rice for most meals for about 15 years so I can do it pretty well. These days I meal prep and do 1 cup of rice then fluff it and divide it into 4 portions, 1 for the meal I'm eating that night then 3 for the meals that'll be my lunch for Mon/Tue/Wed. I just don't need a rice cooker.
>>222655101 cup for 4 meals, are you a hamster?
>>22265520This is a weird reply and I can't tell if you don't know that rice expands when you cook it or if you think all I'm eating is rice.
>>22264205All brands make a 3 cup that can do 0.5 cup minimum. There are some tiny models but i find a standard 3 cup running the minimum batch works the best anyway.
>>22263802Jasmine. Quick rinse because it's clumpy otherwise. Tried filtered once to test, made no difference, stopped using filtered.
>>22265290it keeps it way above bacteria breeding ground territory
>>22262216because it takes up space for something I would need once every month or 2, and a pan with a lid works perfectly.
>>22262216toast = white people foodrice = brown/yellow people foodI am not brown or yellow.
I have a fancy rice cooker but I lived without a roaster for years and used a nonstick pan for frozen bread. I got one of these because I don't want a unitasker
>>22262216Microwave works fine
>>22262216Rice cookers kick ass. Just don't cheap out and get one that burns the rice at the bottom of the pot.
>>22265699I'm mixed and I love carbs. Ergo, I like both.
Toast is trash, I eat real bread
Toasters haven't been good since they started making them extra wide to accommodate Jew bagels. Your bread isn't supposed to be toasted hard all the way through, only the surface should be toasted while the inside remains slightly soft and plush. To achieve this you need the bread to be very close to the heating elements. Or you could get that one Japanese autism toaster that uses steam.
>>22266151Narrow slot toasters suck shit.
>>22262216I don't eat rice
>>22262216I haven't bought Pop-Tarts in ages, so I have no need for a toaster.I can microwave rice that tastes the same as rice cooked on a stovetop so I don't need a rice cooker either.
i boil my rice for 20 mintues and then i strain it and put it back in the pot and put the lead in and it makes perf rice
ชึุI Love Slow Cookers!ะะะึ่
>>22265174Never
>>22262216>Can Airfry>Can Pressure cookDont really need anything more
>>22265290the warmth of the rice kills the bacteria
>>22267081Do you have one? I think they’re convenient in theory but I don’t like having the same lid for air frying and pressure cooking, too hard to clean
>>22267243Actually never mind, I think that’s a 2 lid model
>>22265598So it keeps it HOT, not WARM then? You gotta be more precise in your wording, anon.
>>22264229It sings you a little song and its enclosed so water does boil overOnly flaw it has is that you can toast the rice or spices in it
>>22262216I forget if rice cookers were spared Alton Brown's general wrath of unitaskers.
>>22267243I've had one for three years, its really not that annoying to clean. I use it for everything from Rice, soups, stews, and all my toasting/airfrying
>>22265290It's far more dangerous to put freshly cooked rice in a big tupperware container in the fridge then chip away at it for 3-4 days. That is how you get bacillus cereus poisoning. The critical detail frequently overlooked is that pan frying does NOT kill this bacteria. Leaving rice in rice cooker on keep warm setting overnight is safe as the cookers are programmed to maintain a temperature above pasteurization, bacillus cereus never has a chance to grow in the first place.
>>22262216ive cooked so much rice in a pot that i don't feel like i need one at all. i simply don't want one. well, cya!
>>22268001Thanks, for sharing.
>>22267974Pan frying kills the bacteria, doesn't kill the spores. You're possibly right about the "big Tupperware container," but if you spread it out and get it below 40° quickly it's just as safe as you keeping it above 140°.
>>22262216You can toast bread in a pan. Turns out nicer actually.
>>22262216you can buy this gimmicky junk designed for hongkong kitchen with no stove and call it essential , its your choice
