>gabagool
italian isn't a serious language
>>
Gabagool is an American bastardization of Capocollo. It's not that Italian isn't a serious language, it's the Americans making up words because they're not really Italian and don't know the language.
>>
>>22260913
Neither is French. Its just Dutch with a mouthful of peanutbutter and cock.

That's just the Neapolitans.

i thought it partly came from the silician language or something.
>>
>>22260936
It's from the Neapolitian name for it, capecuollo, which sounds kinda like gabagool the way they say it. Kinda.

We're the only part of Italy that has a schwa sound, which is incredibly difficult for other Italians to pronounce so my guess is that when they got to America and encountered capocollo for the first time, they simply omitted the final schwa.
This is extremely apparent in other "Italian" American pronunciations of food words from Neapolitan, such as mozzarella becoming mozzarell and prosciutto becoming prosciutt. Both words end in a schwa in Neapolitan.
Over time, because their greasy wop dego descendents couldn't pronounce diphthongs at all, the UO diphthong was flattened into a long Ū sound.
>>22260936
Nope. It's definitely Neapolitan but both the p/b merge and the c/g merge happen in Sicilian and Calabrian pronunciations ergo, when Sicilians and Calabrians first encountered capocollo from Neapolitans in the US who called it by its Neapolitan word, capecuoll' (I'm using the apostrophe here to denote the schwa), the P became a B and the C became a G.
Basically, "Italian" American pronunciations of Italian are a mushmouth bastardisation of how poor, illiterate southerners spoke a hundred years ago.
This is made all the more difficult with Neapolitan being both its own language, descended of Oscan rather than Latin and therefore familiar-sounding but wildly different from Latin-descended languages, and a dialect of Italian, combining both languages into a third, pidgin language.
And I just realised that most people probably wouldn't know this but Oscan is an ancient Italic language, a cousin to Latin, that mostly died out after Roman conquest of the South. Other languages descended of Oscan, like Sabellic and Samnite, died off quickly but Neapolitan persists to this day.
Here are some examples of Oscan:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabula_Bantina
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cippus_Abellanus
Quite different from Latin. Compare it for yourself.
>>

All Italians speak Italian on top of their regional dialects, and many don't even speak in their regional dialect in fact, they only speak Italian. Dialects are spoken between friends and family, but if you go into a shop people will speak to you in Italian no matter where you go
>>
>>22261811
Its just sliced meat you autistic
>>
>>22261772
Nope. Italy actually invented public education, with the first free public school opening in Southern Italy in 1596. The second specifically opened in Naples just a few years later. The problem is that education was exclusive to cities and the vast, vast, vast majority of "Italian" Americans are descended of rural farmers as city folk didn't generally have any reason to emigrate abroad. Rural people abandoned entire villages to move to the Americas. City people stayed put.
Also, the Montessori method of early education, a teaching tool so profoundly effective that it's still used, mostly unmodified, to this day the whole world over, was created in Italy in 1907.
>>22261697
It's more that they never had a chance to begin with but still display the typical American arrogance of their way being correct when it simply never was.
Their ancestors spoke the Italian equivalent of Jed Clampet's hillbilly mouthfarts that they further chewed up and shat back out again yet think this is proper Italian. It's not even proper dialect.
>>22261827
>if you go into a shop people will speak to you in Italian no matter where you go
Not even remotely true. I can spend the day entire day going into and out of any shop on via Cilea in Naples and not speak any Italian at all the entire time because, again, Neapolitan Italian dialect is still a fact of daily life even if the Neapolitan language isn't as common now as it once was.
You could, of course, speak Italian at any shop in Naples (and if you have a different accent or cadence, a Neapolitan will speak to you in Italian) but locals speak to locals in an entirely different manner no matter where in Italy you are.
>>22261783
We still speak standard Italian, bro. The only parts that don't are val d'Aosta (French) and parts of the Northeast (German, Rumansch and Resian).
Even areas that speak non-Italian languages like parts of Calabria (Albanian), parts of Puglia (Griko) and parts of Sardegna (Catalan) still speak Italian, too

No. America = perfectly fine. "Italian" Americans = disgusting larpers who can't pronounce their own surnames and make having a tricolour tattoo of the boot into a personality.
Furthermore, you misunderstand a few things, namely that
• the word in standard Italian is capocollo
• Sicilians, Calabrians, Puglians, Abbruzzese and Molisans can easily pronounce that (well maybe not Calabrians; those people talk all sorts of fucked up)
• Neapolitan is another language or distinct from Italian and
• people from those groups are simply unable to pronounce the Neapolitan word, not the Italian one.

How exactly do you know what I grew up with, and what makes your version the “real thing”? Or is this just another case of people dressing up an ordinary dish in cultural mysticism and pretending Grandma’s cooking is some sacred culinary revelation?
>>
>>22262481
>>22262492
Let me try to find a way to explain this so even an American can understand. It’s like going to a Divine Liturgy in a good Orthodox church: the sermon is good, the ceremony is ancient and meaningful, the message is sound, the building is beautiful, the chanting is amazing, people behave, and you can feel God.

Then you go to an American evangelical mega church. Technically it's the same, a religious cerimony, the building is called a church, technically both are Christian, but it's just not the same thing.
>>
>>22262496
You've missed his point. He's comparing your grandmother's homemade hummingbird cake (an American Southern staple) to a Twinkie. I mean not literally those two things but think of it like that. He's not talking about his own grandmother. He is indeed appealing to the notion of the mythical culinarily omnicompetent grandma or abuelita, as you might know her by.
>>
>>22262496
>How exactly do you know what I grew up with, and what makes your version the “real thing”?
As I was saying, it’s pretty hard for someone raised in a completely commercialized society to grasp the difference.

Try to think of a restaurant where nothing feels like a game of pretend. It isn’t trying to look fancy to take your money, though it does look good. The workers aren’t playing cop or faking niceness for tips, they’re just polite and, often, genuinely nice. The food isn’t trying to look exotic and pretentious to get your money. It’s complex, and even obsessive in how it’s made.

It’s the difference between a castle built for a purpose, warfare, and a Disneyland castle build to make money.
>>
>>22262501
>He's comparing your grandmother's homemade hummingbird cake (an American Southern staple) to a Twinkie.
This guy kinda gets it, but a Twinkie is not a good comparsion, instead it should be compared with a commercialized recipe for a hummingbird cake sold in an American fast food restaurant trying a bit too hard to make it look "comfy".

Yes, there are bound to be a few good, proper restaurants in the US. It’s a nation of 330 million people. But virtually everything will be the American version of it. Saying the US has culture is like saying Uganda has White people, it's not technically true, it's just very dishonest.

Mega-churches do not constitute 999 out of 1000 examples.

Secondly, there is no such thing as "the real thing". That's a no true scotsman fallacy. Like if I were to claim European potatoes aren't the real thing because they were indigenous to the Americas first, or European chocolate isn't a real thing because it was invented in the Americas first. It's a retarded argument based on sanctimonious gatekeeping masquerading as an argument. Which you're failing at by the way.

>Yes, there are bound to be a few good, proper restaurants in the US.
More than few. More than however many your country has, I guarantee it.

I can’t think of a single time that’s happened. Take food: the US can make copies with more sugar and fat that make them ‘tastier’ from a certain point of view, but better? Hell no.

>Of course, then the euros copy us, like with computer technology and weaponry.

Who needs sugar and fat to do it? Most euro cooking is plain as shit. Just a pinch of salt and some white pepper and it's already an echelon above. Goes for pretty much every single dish ever invented in that godforsaken shit-heap. You should thank the US for carrying you through 7 decades, because it sure wasn't worth it.

I think this post is a good example of what Americans lack. The US doesn’t have great wine or great sausages. They’re decent at best, and almost all of it is low-tier slop. But even so, some people are obsessed with being number one and will make rankings to claim it’s actually the best. Too much effort goes into being number one in some metric, and too little goes into actually doing something good.

American cheese is decent.

>>22262544

What metrics are you looking at?

The US economy is approximately 58% larger than China's.
US GDP per person is approximately 6.5 times higher.
In 2025, the US spent approximately 2.8 times as much on its military as China.
The US has a slightly higher life expectancy according to the World Bank's 2024 data. It's marginal, but still higher.
About 95% of Americans and 92% of Chinese used the internet in 2024.
Safely managed sanitation coverage was 97% in the US versus 69% in China in 2024
China's population declined by about 0.2% in 2025, while the US population grew by about 0.5%

What fucking metrics, sperg-burger?

The best? No, but among the best? Absolutely. Anyone who isn't blind or propagandized can realize that.

>or even that it’s good, and that’s why you’re having this little episode of yours.
Little episode he says, after he unconditionally started flame-baiting about America, then got butthurt when he was challenged, lmoa.

>Trying too hard to look good on rankings and formal metrics doesn’t make up for not being good in practice. The same way repeating "I'm so funny, I got 300 laugh medal wards" doesn't make a guy funny.
It actually does make a guy funny, if he can consistently make people laugh. More weird, contrarian assertions that don't hold up to even the slightest criticism.

how many threads you already filled with this /pol/ crap?

>The best? No, but among the best? Absolutely.
>Anyone who isn't blind or propagandized can realize that.
Let me repeat it. Trying too hard to look good on rankings and formal metrics doesn’t make up for not being good in practice.

That's why no matter how rich the US became, it never really fit with Europeans, it's not about money, it's about civilization.

That explains why you’ve bought into so many copes.

Here's the thing; the US isn't "trying to look good", it simply exists. And you cannot stand that.

And that explains why you think reality that doesn't align with your cardboard cut-out worldview are "copes".

>Reeeeeeee, you got bfto
Military power is another good example. No matter how large the budget is or how many metrics a country scores #1 in, that won’t make its military any good, and actual results in warfare show it.

Coping is no good, specially when you need to lie to cope.

this line of argumentation really went the way of the dinosaur when america straight up kidnapped the leader of venezuala

You need to stop being this stupid. It’s not good for you, and it’s not good for anyone who has to endure your posts.

I never said I was funny though? Dumbass ESL's need to GTFO my board.

Neither is obsessing about America, sweety.

>this line of argumentation really went the way of the dinosaur when america straight up
When the US managed to occupy Afghanistan, and managed to occupy Iraq, and managed to make Ansarallah stop attacking ships bound to Israel, and defeated Iran, changing the regime, ending their nuclear program and opening the strait...

The military may be the best example of American excellence: number one on all the metrics, but outright incompetent in practice.
>>
>>22262622
>Neither is obsessing about America, sweety.
Again with this thing where you act obsessively, then try to pretend others did it.

Do you really need to bring muttland numba one /pol/ stuff to every thread?
>>

>managed to occupy Iraq
???
>>
>>22262633
>Seeeeeeeeee, we actually got the "victory" result in this metric we made up, ignore reality
Another very real American victory, comrade. The victory in the 3rd invasion of Iraq is even more glorious than the 1st and 2nd.
>>
>>22262629
>Again with this thing where you act obsessively, then try to pretend others did it.

I'm not the one who came into this thread angrily commenting about other people's countries unprompted, junior. Maybe take your angry little dick energy and direct it at the Pakistani's raping your women and children. America is actually trying to stop that by the way.

I’m not the one you need to convince. You flood thread after thread with the same mutt /pol/ stuff, the same writing style, and the same coping patterns.
>>
>>22262643
Iran barely has control over its own country, what the fuck are you talking about?

Some people can’t handle defeat. Usually the same people who can’t handle their country not being the best, or not being good at something.

There's an Albanian autonomous region in the central mountains populated by Christian Albos Italy rescued from ethnic cleansing at the hands of the Ottomans. There's a smaller coastal community of them in the Adriatic coast but I can't remember if it's in Abruzzo or Molise.

Yeah, the op started with an american mocking italians for a mistake actually made by americans. It's a double whammy of american stupidity.
What other direction could this thread possibly take?

No, you're simply retarded. Reread the thread and find me the first post shitting on an entire culture. Because other than mentioning American arrogance, which is a well-documented reality proudly celebrated by Americans, nobody was shitting on Americans/America until one American's fragile ego was bruised inadvertantly, jumped to the wrong conclusion and she/you started to lash out while taking a shart in the 'mart.
I repeat: you are retarded.

Why does (almost) every word in Italian have to end in a vowel? It’s annoying because it’s too many syllables. It also sounds a bit fruity. I for one am glad our ancestors shortened words by converting the vowel endings to consonants:

Pasta fagioli > pasta vazool
Calamari > galamad
Mozzarella > muzarel
Prosciutto > prosciutt
>>
