Thoughts on ground beef and pork blend? Is this poverty food? It's pretty cheap near me.
>>22260449it’s for making Italian shit. is ground beef and ground pork poverty food? I don’t know how to answer that
>>22260449>Thoughts on ground beef and pork blend?it's for meatballs.>Is this poverty food?there is no such thing as food when you're in poverty.your view of poverty is warped because you live in the modern era.
>>2226044950% each is like the default European choice for mince.
What's "pretty cheap"? Cuz ground beef is $2.99/lb right now in my area.
>>222604683 pound tubes were selling for $5.35
>>22260464>50% each is like the default European choice for mince. Please Mr AmericanTell me more stories about somewhere you have never been?
>>22260535Are you from some islamistic shithole?
>>22260449All meat in a tube is very low quality scraps held together by meat glue
>>22260462Look at this poverty cope. Spotted the dumpster diver.
>>22260464>minceAnd you idiots wonder why you are so hated
>>22260470Ain't bad. I've never bought a tube of meat except breakfast sausage. If it's similarly sticky, I can't see any use for it beyond meatloaf/balls or chili.Didja buy it and, if so, wadderya gonna do wiffit?
>>22260449>Is this poverty foodyes
>>22260649You're desperate to feel superior to anyone with your miserable life.
>>22260449those cows were fed glyphosate sprayed corn 100%
>>22260449The industry "standard" is 2/3rd beef, 1/3rd pork but the actual ratio is rarely specified on the packaging. The Walmart brand in OP's image lists beef first and pork second on its list of ingredients, so it must be at least 50% beef. Kroger on the other hand reverses this, with pork listed first, so there might only be a trace of beef in their blend. That they still call it "Beef and Pork Blend" probably is ok since the ingredients list on the nutrition facts label puts them in the order of amount.
>>22260449those are the bomb for stuffed peppers
>>22260651We got it. You hate history. Europe is old enough that meat was actually minced/chopped back in the days and that name just stuck. In every important language it's mince.
>>22260449do they specific what amount is beef? couldn't they just make it 99 percent pork and 1 percent beef?
>>22260535It's true at least in germany. Pure beef mince and pork/beef mince are always sold side by side and the space dedicated for mixed mince is typically larger. >>22261653True. In german it's HACKFLEISCH.
>>22260449I know the balkan non-muslims use beef-pork for sausages
>>22260449I have been using more beef and pork blend lately since I got tired of the flavor profile only beef provides. I use it mostly for dumpling fillings
50/50 beef and pork makes for the absolute best hamburger.
>>22261654Lol thanks for reminding me about that oil thread
>tube beef: inedible>tube pork: fineIt could go either way
>>22261698>>22261653In Italian, carne tritata (minced/chopped meat) and carne macinata (ground/machined meat) are used interchangeably but macinata is much, much more common. In French, it's hache, same root as >>22261698 (and hatchet). In Indonesian, it's cincang which is literally pronounced chingchong, so that's fun.
>>22261654Legally, ingredients must be listed in order of percent. If it was 99% pork and 1% beef, the label would have to list pork first and beef second.
>>22260468that's beef from china or some mexican country that trump imported because he is losing his jewish war. do no eat.
>>22260468Where the fuck do you live? 80/20 here is almost $7/lb.
>>22262228Yeah, that's normal price. On sale, it's between $2.99-3.99/lb. And it's always on sale somewhere in my area. There are four competing big chain supermarkets here and will will always have it on sale and that's where I get it that week. And that's not to mention the smaller stores. I think it's Safeway this week..>>22261886Pretty sure it's product of US. Not sure. As said in >>22260690, I don't buy the tubes and I'm pretty sure only the tube stuff is foreign origin.
>>22260449>Is this poverty food? It's for making Italian food which is poverty food. So yes.
>>22261698>In german it's HACKFLEISCH.
>>22262829Literally me
>>22262829I wanna hack your brain.
>>22260449It's worse than ground beef, but more expensive than ground pork. Calling it poverty food is unfair, but that's what it's trying to be. I think it's a bad deal because if you want cheaper meat, then chicken and pork are just better. Boneless chicken thighs are delicious, which you can regularly find marked down and freeze. Whole pork shoulder, which you can debone and cut into portions before freezing. It's funny because both of those cuts are thought of as fatty and trashy, but they are both leaner than 85/15 ground beef. You could even trim off most of the pork shoulder's fat cap to make it that much leaner while still being a good value.
>>22265239Why if you have to keep track of every cent would you throw away any of the good fat?
>>22265261Because protein is just as important to me as value and taste, especially protein relative to the total calories of the food. I'm 180lbs ~15% bodyfat, still trying to cut down to 12%, and of course lifting. My protein goals are not so ridiculous that I have to eat chicken breasts or 93% beef, and I like to enjoy my food. Trimming off excess fat that doesn't improve the rest of the meat is a no brainer, and again pork shoulder is still a great deal while factoring that loss.
>>22260449I think it makes a solid burger.
