Today i made a bowl consisting of lentils, rice, eggs, butter, peanut butter and some sunflower seeds.
Too many ingredients, you’re not poor
I'm not poor but I've started buying tofu instead of meat because it's cheap and it lasts like 2 months in the fridge. whenever something trashy like ramen or instant pasta needs some protein I just dice up a chunk of tofu and throw it in.
>>22258183What's the point of larping being poor, you just need to wait a few years to get the real experience.
>>22258183>has food>has internet>thinks he's poor
>>22258196let's see those nipples
>>22258205unfortunately the tofu doesn't make me a woman
>>22258202If you cannot afford property, you're poor by definition.
>>22258183well GODBLESS!
>>22258213It does make you a whore though
>>22258213looks just like me if i had chest hair instead of goofy nipple hair. huh
>>22258183Rice and beans. No way to go wrong.
>>22258183>lentilsI wouldn't eat this bullshit if I was starving
Earlier this week, I finally made what I think is a winner in terms of "bachelor chow"I browned some ground turkey in a wok, added some spices to it. Dumped a bunch of rice cooked in chicken bullion, and emptied a couple small bags of frozen veggies (one with carrot, green beans, corn, and peas. The other with larger chunks of carrot, broccoli, and cauliflower). If I remember rightly, I used olive oil, onion powder, jar garlic, chili powder, Italian seasoning, cayenne pepper, soy sauce, and eventually some salt and pepper.I didn't get a picture of it in the wok, and I'm too lazy to snap a pic of the leftovers, but believe me, it's good. And with all those vegetables and lean meat, it's probably a decently healthy meal. (ignore the fact that half of it is white rice by weight)Next time though, I think I'm going to double the meat, use ground chicken instead, and let the vegetables fully thaw first. I think dumping them in cold tripled the cook time.My goal is to make the laziest easy slop meal that I can have at the ready to make by just stocking the right stuff in my freezer, and setting it out to thaw before work one day.
>>22258944*bouillonI should stop trusting spell check.
>>22258944Sounds bretty good, I think meat plus veg plus rice plus sauce is a meal easy to eat often. I used to do chicken and teriyaki sauce with stir fry vegetables, taste is strong enough that I could sneak in a double helping of frozen vegetables and still enjoy it
>>22258183i had a can of tomatoes and okra $2.49 and some cornbread <$0.79. it was really good for canned vegetables. I'm gonna become a canned vegetables guy.
>>22258183i took a sip of milk, it went down the wrong pipe, and i had this picture enlarged as i gagged/chocked. looks gross bud
>>22258944I'm the same amount of time, you can just make fried rice and a meat main. You want the aesthetic of bachelor chow because you're romanticizing your loneliness. Get over yourself and eat real for
>>22259054Isn't fried rice, and a meat main kind of what this is? The only difference is that it's mixed together, and most fried rice has some form of meat in it already. It's only "Bachelor chow" because it's easy to make, and easy to portion out with a ladle.I wouldn't even say it's romanticizing loneliness. I'm more so just trying to game my own laziness by setting myself up for some normal eating when I'm tired after work.
>>22259068Why would you mix it all together? What are you getting out of that? If it's after work then it's not efficiency. You are expending the same amount of time you could to make a real meal because you think it's cool and dark and you're a lone rangerGet over yourself and make a real meal
I cooked Chinese takeout-style curry fuzhu yesterday. We have so, so much fuzhu. Anyway, 2lbs of dry fuzhu costs $9 and becomes 5-6lbs after rehydrating. 3 servings costs 48¢Onions. 50¢/lb. ⅔/lb = 34¢Long mustard. $2/lb. ⅔/lb = $1.33Ginger. Free if you're not a retard. A couple cents if you are Frying oil. $8/gallon. 4¢/spoonful Totole. $4 for the 8oz of the Knorr version. 6¢/spoonfulMushroom seasoning powder. $11/500g pouch. 10¢Curry powder. Pyramide sells a 4oz sachet for $2. 18¢Sesame oil. Haru-Haru routinely goes on sale $12/56oz. 18¢.Cornstarch. $4/lb. Negligible quantity. Like 1-2¢?Rice to eat it with. $25 for a 50lb sack of Lucky brand. 33¢Total spend if you have literally nothing on hand: $77.50Total cost for a meal for three: $3.06 ($1.02 for a single person).Side dishes were had, sure, but they were cheap as shit. Italian eggplants were $1/each regardless of size so I cooked up eggplant in chilli sauce ($2.55 for the dish, 85¢ per 3 person meal) and a simple carrot salad ($1 for the dish, which was enough for the meal plus one serving remaining). How much did your utter monstrosity actually cost? Our meal cost $4.66 for the three of us, $1.56 per person. Was yours cheaper?
>>22259072I feel like responding to that in earnest would only be granting it legitimacy. It's like they say. Throw an insult, and it's owner will pick it up.
>>22258183looks like you need to shape it into patties and fry it or bake it or something
>>22258183>gruel, three times/ day, compliments to he chef
>>22258183the last time I was poor was when I lived at home. since then I have NEVER been poor.I eat whatever I want regardless of cost.
>>22258196I wish I could enjoy tofu. It's close to being edible but not quite.
>>22259979I'm poor and still eat whatever I want with the exception of sushi by the roll because I'm not paying $40 6oz of fish and rice
>>22259993it does well if you treat it stereotypically and act like it doesn't have a flavor. I love the texture of tofu but it tastes like playdough. I usually put it in very flavorful sauces heavy in spices and fats. chicken is similar honestly.
>>22259993I feel the same but like the anon you’re replying to I find it’s a convenient protein source to have around if I don’t feel like cooking meat, or am out of it
>>22259994managing to eat whatever you want is different from being able to afford anything you might want to eat.
>>22260176why would I care about the affordability of things I don’t want to eat?
>>22258213Imagining flicking my tongue across ur nips and kissing u all down ur front until I reach ur cock rn shits got me flustered ngl
>>22261097I'm making congee with beef bouillon
>>22258183What is this, an isometric zombie survival game?
OP, if you're actually poor, I have an offer for you if you want to make some money. The offer involves me putting my penis where your poop usually comes out of
>>22260179what you "want to eat" has been subconsciously narrowed to a sphere of things you can feasibly get to eat. if you wanted to eat 5 different pizzas you wouldnt do it. you'd probably narrow it down to one or two pizzas, because getting more would be a waste of money.someone with greater wealth than you never has to narrow down decisions.likewise, if you are poor and you've only ever had catfish, the chances that you will desire to eat sea bass are relatively low. the things you "want" are just an adaptation to your historical financial position, which has always presented you certain things, and not presented you other things.
>>22258213this actually convinced me you're poor
>>22261306I'm not poor I just have digestive issueshere is my finished congee with tofu cubes in it. for flavor the congee has some fish sauce and seasoned rice vinegar.
>>22258183chicken breast and rice > this slop
>>22263210Miss me with that dry garbage.
>>22258196It's the same reason why I started buying TVP cutlets. They are cheap and I can just crumble them and drop into some stew or pasta sauce... or chomp on them raw like some retarded caveman. Kinda like a protein-high hardtack.
>>22261159post more shirtless pics bro im horny asf rn
>>22261346This looks better than the OP image. Maybe with some sriracha or hot sesame oil could be solid
>>22259993Try it fried stiff with dipping sauces or fondue
>>22258944>anon discovers bodybuilders meal prep from ten years ago
>>22258213Why won't you post more fag i want to jerk off
>>22258944>My goal is to make the laziest easy slop meal that I can have at the ready to make by just stocking the right stuff in my freezer, and setting it out to thaw before work one day.I like using staple ingredients like lentils or beans or various grains, but I hate that you have to soak them one day beforehand. Can't just put'em in the pot whenever I want.
>>22258196Tofu kinda sucks nutritionally. The macros are basically similar to whole eggs because there's so much fat+carbs in it, and eggs are cheaper and last a long fucking time in a fridge too. I just buy tofu as basically pre-cooked eggs when I'm too depressed to cook an egg. And chicken breast and pork loin are so cheap right now in the US there's really no excuse to eat tofu instead of full-on dried TVP hog food if you're talking full poverty.
>>22266304Any kind of split pea/lentil or even normal unsplit lentils can just be cooked from dry fine with a lidded pot. And if you use a pressure cooker anything can.
>>22266495Yeah it's mostly just a convenience thing for me as well. If I cared about nickel and diming I'd be buying chicken legs or pork shoulder. I can't eat very much fat though because of stomach issues so I'm limited in choices since lean protein costs much more than fatty protein.
>>22266510right now in the US boneless skinless chicken breast and pork loin are better deals for pure protein than fatty cuts that are marginally cheaper, even if you don't care about getting the fat alongside it. They're cheaper in terms of $/g protein than fucking plain greek yogurt; you can't do better without talking about dry beans or TVP. I don't know why they're at $2/lb but they both are.
>>22266524Yeah I might pick some up. I usually throw the whole tray of breasts in my electric pressure cooker and cook them for like 90 minutes until they are the texture of canned chicken. Then I just put it in glass storage bowls in the fridge and throw some of it in the random food I make.
Today something exciting happened. I was gifted steak that was a couple days over the best before date. That made a nice addition to my bowl.Yes, im flexing. Todays ingredients:Rice, lentils, beef broth, salt, garlic chili paste, eggs, kohlrabi and steak.
>>22266537Oh and butter.
>>22266531I like just quick frying thin pieces (either butterflied/squashed chicken breasts or just thin cut pork loin chops), salting, and getting to eating them within a few minutes from getting it out of the fridge, at about 145F at the center. You can do whatever spices/sauces. Most people get used to fubar dried out lean meats as kids so they think the meat is shit but really lean low-connective-tissue meat is good when not ruined.
>>22258183Ew
>>22266548I have a local store that sells meat I might check out their prices. The supermarket in town is a Walmart so their meat will be shit and woody. I'm kinda sketched out by 145 degree chicken because I have low stomach acid from medication so if there are pathogens in the food I eat there's a one hundred percent chance that it makes me ill.
>>22266549I asked chatgpt to put some garnish on it. Would you eat it now?
>>22266551if you're getting cheap chicken breast or pork loin in the US the meat was packed at the slaughterhouse into vacuum sealed packages/sleeves. The grocery store has to be so skeevy to make them go bad before their sell by date that they leave them out of refrigeration. It's not like trusting actual Walmart/Aldi butchery.
>>22258213Based and nippilled.
>>22258183My bratwurst in the freezer is a bit soft to the touch, I thought it would be hard as a rock after being in the freezer for several days, will it be ok or do I need to crank up the freezer to a higher setting?
>>22259074>fuzhuhuh I'd never heard of this, going to buy some next time I'm at the asian shop
>>22259074>Ginger. Free if you're not a retard.am a brainlet, can you grow ginger that easily?
>>22261174>if you wanted to eat 5 different pizzas you wouldnt do itbut I never do, are you saying if I had been rich at some point in my life I'd find it normal to order 5 pizzas at once? Who orders more than a single pizza for themselves in the first place? What you're saying only makes sense if food was prohibitively expensive but only very few ingredients are unattainable even if you only make minimum wage. The only difference is how frequently you will be eating high-priced ingredients.
>>22266561I would have kept the rice separate from the other stuff, but I'm sure it tastes fine.
>>22266845>Who orders more than a single pizza for themselves in the first place? This guy
>>22266838Absolutely. Buy a hand of ginger /from the Asian supermarket/ and grow it. That's it. Supermarkets like Kroger, Wegmans and Safeway tend to source root veg that's treated with growth inhibitors these days. If you've wondered why potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic etc don't sprout in the drawer anymore (or haven't noticed this change until now), that's why. Instead, they just rot.For some reason, root veg from Asian markets aren't generally treated with inhibitors. I grow shallots for onion greens, ginger for ginger and myoga, and potatoes for more potatoes. I used to buy sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving and then to plant in spring for decorative vines but they just rot now rather than sprout. That's when I started buying root veg at China Mart
>>22258183God bless.
>>22266939huh ty anon I'll try this out, I love ginger. Hopefully it does OK in an apartment as I have no garden. Also I had no idea about myoga, that shit sounds delicious. It's weird that I've never even heard of people cultivating ginger despite knowing a few people with gardens.
>>22266806AYO CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHY THIS DUDE’S WEINER ISN’T HARD?
>>22258183Le Bump
You are ruining perfectly good ingredients and blaming it on poverty.
