Ron Wallace did it again - his pumpkin institute has grown a gigantic specimen weighing 3,156lbs (1,431.5kg), setting a new world record for largest verified pumpkin (and, by extension, the largest known squash of any variety). Have you ever eaten a giant vegetable, /ck/? Was it better or worse than a plant of normal size?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHRdaAXHo0g
>>22257270Almost as fat as you're mom.
>>22257270I bet that thing is all rotted inside, full of nasty fungicides and fertilizers, watery, stringy and inedible. show me a edible giant variety and I'll be impressed.
I read an article in a local paper about giant pumpkin growing and the resources and time it takes to grow one is crazy. I think the article said it takes something like 4 hours of work a day tending to the pumpkin and 50 gallons of water a day.
>>22257292I’ve been trying to just get regular pumpkins going in the backyard and have been SOL like 5 years running … if it’s not the corn borers its the fungus or in the case of this year something eating the flowers clean off the vines
>>22257270I hate this sort of thing because generally the bigger a fruit/vegetable is the blander it tastes.
>>22257305>corn borersSquash vine borers, different species :) you should learn about companion plants and trap crops, things like nasturtiums, radishes and rosemary. they are invaluable when growing squashes of all varieties.
>>22257287I bet it's just a regular fuckin pumpkin on the inside, not rotted or anything and certainly not as flavorful as varieties grown for things other than size but tasting just fine either way.
>>22257344you'd lose that bet in a heartbeat, potty mouth.
>>22257270I should call her

>>22258018Do they allow a crew?
>>22257344>>22258016that thing is almost certainly inedible and covered in pesticides and antifungals. you don't grow a giant vegetable for almost 5 months without protecting your investment. they're doing this for prize money and the notoriety to sell their seeds for retarded sums of money to hobbyists. This guy sells TWO (2) seeds for 90 dollars from his largest prize winning specimens.
>>22257270>>22258012>>22258018One of the news stations was covering a pumpkin contest and the damn banner at the bottom of the screen for the news station was covering most of the interesting stuff. They were like "and here's the heaviest pumpkin!" and you could only see the top of it.
>>22258029how do you mean?
>>22258311You could put three people in OP's pumpkin.
>>22257277FPBP, how is anyone not acknowledging this.
>>22258467i've never seen more than one person in a pumpkin at a time on the water, but i've only lived here a few years. i suppose it's possible. i think balance would be more of an issue than space inside the gourd. it's amazing how un-seaworthy the hull design of a pumpkin is.
>>22257344You see that crack? It's definitely moldy inside.
>>22258686lol
How do you fit such a big pumpkin in such a small state?
>>22257277lmao
>>22257270my dad has grown giant pumpkins and taken them to the OVGPG weigh off in Canfield, OHwhen he started (back in like 2010) the records were still in the 1000sinsane to see how quickly the limits have been pushedpicrel, it's him carving his 2011 pumpkin at a friend's Halloween party

>>22263176My dad bought a big metal Peanuts Great Pumpkin sign and he carts the pumpkin to the top of the hill facing the road at the front of the property and sticks the sign next to it. He carves it and sticks a floodlight in. Then when it starts to rot, we haul it to the woods and chop it up with axes. He's carved all sorts of stuff into them over the years. Notably, Romney/Ryan in 2012 (that pumpkin got fucking destroyed by some nigger motorist in like 2 days) and Iron Maiden's Eddie at my wife's request a few years ago. picrel, it's Eddie. Looks better all lit up in the dark but I don't have a pic of it unfortunately
>>22257287No. They have rules about that actually. The pumpkin cant be split or have holes penetrating all the way inside. They also chainsaw them open.
>>22260592Thanks bro. I looked it up and it's the longest anus I've ever seen. Truly vile. I feel like I've seen other shopped or AI images referencing the cado slot on this board and others before but I don't remember because so much horrendous stuff is posted. >>22263339That's awesome. Your dad's a cool dude. What do you guys do with the seeds from the giant pumpkin and did you ever try to eat the flesh or is it all fucked up like anons ITT said about giant 'kins
>>22257277OP BTFO
>>22263986he's a great dad and person; interested in weird hobbiesThe pumpkins have so many strong pesticides in them that I wouldn't try eating any part of them. The serious growers plot out lineage charts for pumpkins and the good seeds with impressive pedigrees can be expensive. The weigh-offs are fun events and probably one of the last purely white hobbies in the US. It's a neat subculture. They have information meetings where growers discuss new techniques, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.

>>22264711Do you sell or trade the seeds with other giant pumpkin growers? The giant vegetable growers have always fascinated me because of their singular focus on doing one thing exceptionally well. A lot of them seem like very eccentric people with an incredible knowledge of how to grow vegetables. >>22268119Long is the only to way to describe it. It's like a coin slot on an arcade game but longer.
>>22257482in the video he admits he sold it but won't say for how much. it was probably bought by someone to make chinese medicine
