This one wasn’t the biggest ever but is the biggest recently: I’d posted this in a QTDDTOT about whether macadamia nuts had messed up my cookies since I was sure I’d made them right.

Well I finally got around to making the cookies again and I didn’t make them right before. The recipe calls for 2 flours but I just do only all purpose flour, so I combined the weights of each and wrote down 17 oz. However because I weigh every other recipe in grams, and because my handwriting was sloppy, I read “17 Oz” as “170g” and put in way too little flour.

not getting a pizza oven years ago to toast my Extra Toasty Cheez-its even further. I have one now but I wasted so many years without. Now I call my wife every time I’m on the way home from the grocery store, literally screaming at the absolute top of my lungs to get the pizza oven fired up before I get home.

I was making seafood newburg once with a stupid expensive ingredients list, including $80 worth of sherrfish and some nice sherry, amongst other things, and I accidentally dropped almost all the cooked shellfish down the crack between the stove and counter. Fucking disaster that took days to properly clean and I only got one portion out of what was left and didn't even enjoy it. I even baked my own vol-au-vents of which I only needed one :[

pic is the recipe but not OC of course

When I was 10 or something and tried to boil water, I turned on the gas stove but didn’t know I had to ignite it. Was lucky my parents told me to always turn on the ventilation hood when cooking, and that ours blew the air outside.

Around the same age I used the microwave reheat function to heat up leftovers and there wasn’t enough water in the food for the steam sensor to trigger. Only noticed something was wrong after the food had been reheating for 40 minutes. Didn’t cause a fire, but did turn the food into ash and blow up a ceramic plate due to thermal shock.

Moral of the story is teach your kids to cook, there’s a lot of dangerous ways you can mess up.

I drink some water, and immediately start to vomit again.

tossed the entire thing in the trash, and didn't eat anything for 4 days after.
I was not ok for like 2 weeks.
I never bought price reduced meat again.

When I moved into toy first apartment (1 bed), the stove, countertop, and sink were all on a tiny strip of marble, maybe 2x5"

One time I had a beautiful yellow curry simmering and was doing the dishes. My soap dispenser was a glass bottle that you push to dispenser soap, apparently some soap had dried by the spout and when I pushed on it to dispense soap, a crack that had opened through the dried crusty soap diverted the liquid soap in a cumshot stream so that a significant amount of liquid soap landed on my simmering curry. It was not salvageable and I had to dump the whole thing

I'm sure I've had others but that was the one I always remember

I had diarrhea for a week after eating some pork that seemed fine. It was only later when I thawed and cooked some more then tasted it did I realize it was sort of acidic and that's what caused it. I probably didn't notice the first time because I had it with some kind of acidic sauce.

It seems like the only time I've ever gotten food poisoning has been from spoiled/undercooked meat. I don't like meat or eggs too much anyway but something I liked is just not having to worry about that stuff so much since I stopped eating them. I still consume dairy but the risk from pasteurized dairy is a lot lower and seemingly easier to detect.

Leaving a pot of oil on the stove and forgetting about it.
I'm bad about leaving pots going in general with water but for oil I normally would never take the risk of leaving the kitchen to begin with but I thought since I was so starving I would bring myself out to the kitchen a little later anyway so there was no risk.
problem was I had been having issues with bright flashing lights from my neighbours coming into my home and every time I thought about getting up for food I didn't because I didn't want to be flashed by the lights upon leaving my bedroom.
Eventually I went out to a lounge room full of smoke, rushed to the kitchen and turned the stove off, fire rising high above the oil, nothing caught fire but a plastic salt container melted a bit.
made a mess of the walls and ceiling, I got them cleaned but it was left a bit too late so they need a new coat of paint for what seeped into the ceiling.
on the plus side the insurance said I had to replace all the appliances in the kitchen because having been exposed to so much smoke they were a fire risk themselves so I got a new nicer rice cooker and a working replacement for my previously broken stove, my new microwave sucks ass though.

Take a look at the third video you replied: >>22261832
If you leave it on the hob, it keeps pumping energy into the system, and it keeps releasing more energy from the oil burning, both of which make the system hotter, and increase the size of the flame (because the oil more easily combusts the hotter it is), until it eventually climbs high enough and reaches something flammable.
Is yanking the hot oil off the hob the way to go about it? No, for sure not, but also see how the flame keeps getting bigger the longer they leave it on the hob. Switching off the hob and moving the pan to the side would have been better if they didn't have a lid or fire blanket.
When he pulls the pan off the hob the oil is cut off from the heat coming from the burner, so it can't burn as easily and goes out on its own. The heat from the burner (on or residual, which is why you would still want to move it) is a big part of the issue. Think about the difference in BTUs from the burner or the oil combusting by imagining trying to cook with a pan over one of these oil fires in the pan beneath and you'll see the difference in scale.
The guy who throws the pan outside would have done basically as best you could short of smothering if he hadn't stumbled on the way out. If you cook on camera for a living you should probably just own a fire extinguisher though tbdesu.

Difference is water content. The sensor reheat option used steam to sense when the food was hot. No steam or not enough means it keeps running. And as long as there’s water, the food won’t go too far past boiling temperature.

same group of faggots/women everytime? but yeah sadly they most likely do just want cheesy sauce on over cooked noods. does the sauce call for Coleman's dry mustard and a pinch of cayenne? are you using an odd cheese blend? are salting the water for the pasta?

personally I prefer the baked variety with the beschemel because that is like a brick the next day. the one my mom uses is my favorite. its unfortunately one authored by Ree Drummond, yuck.

only thing that can really go wrong is scorching the milk/roux, adding too much cheese at once so it doesnt melt evenly, over cooking the pasta and burning the toppings. maybe try a different casserole dish that will distract foids from too much flavor or add some olive oil so that it doesn't stick to it itself so much.

God, I FUCKING HATE WOMEN AAAAAAAAAAAAA! LfK.

It's not a huge fuckup, but every time I tried to make homemade toffee candy I never got it to harden; I always ended up with sugary liquid slurry. I eventually stopped trying cause I had no idea what i was doing wrong.

at work i asked one of my line cooks to do me a favour and finish the prepping the ragu i had started in the morning, gave him the recipe, figured it was fine
i did not account for the fact that he was fucking retarded and instead of 3 liters of red wine, he added 3 liters of red wine vinegar

Tried to make yogurt raisins at home foolishly thinking that the coating on the ones in stores is made of yogurt (spoiler, it's not, it's a mixture of sugar, powdered milk, and palm oil, coated in shellac to prevent sticking)
no matter how much starch or sugar I added to the concoction it would not thicken or stick to the raisins and instead turned into this bitter brownish slurry

Another time I tried to make a sponge cake but forgot to 1. grease the pan before pouring (immediately realized my fuckup when it touched down and 2. didn't separate the egg whites and yolk when beating to make it fluffy (this is partially on me, but also the recipe said that separating was unnecessary)
what i peeled out of the pan was basically a mutilated pancake

Long ago in 2004 I was a new young general manager for two seafood restaurants and frozen mail order crab cakes/stuffed salmons and specialty prepared seafoods etc and I made the mistake a few months in of hiring someone with tattoos. The guy was a bit rough but rightfully didn't have any facial hair and wore a buttoned down long sleeve shirt and we were in a bit of a bind and this guy worked for a few years at similar places so I thought sure. I didn't see or ask about if he had tattoos or participated in any other mentally ill and more unsanitary practices.

Well, I don't know how he did it but he kept them covered with a collared shirt and long sleeves until warm weather rolled around.

When I did notice I remembered what the owner taught me but I was too much of a pussy I'll admit to just fire him which I didn't know how would go down legally but I later learned I could have with no consequence. I eventually cut his hours and kinda wiggled out of a direct confrontation when our slow season came around and we were finished a large batch for mail order and I eventually got him to leave. I'll never make that mistake again. Well, I'm not in that field anymore so yeah. Don't hire people with tattoos, gang bangers and other degenerates for food service people. They are inherently not compatible with high quality sanitary food service.

    >fires a perfectly functional member of staff because he had tattoos
    >too much of a bitchmade pussy to even do it directly
i thought you were gonna say you caught him stealing or some shit. this is a really gay story and i dont even have tattoos to be defensive about/

    >stealing
No, that would be lying and make you a dick. I admit it was my fault for not checking beforehand but I was young in the management position. I eventually learned to be more confrontational.

This is a kitchen fuckup thread not my proudest cooking related moments thread. I learned though and the company prospered.

the takeaway should have been arbitrary hiring standards like no tattoos are pointless. i know im on 4chan and faggots here love going on about 'ermmm tattoos mean low impulse control normie cattle' but it really is a pointless restriction evident by your story
    >>
    >>22267781
Not going to go into all the owners wisdom but if it looks like a dog, barks like a dog etc. Tattoos in particular got him off good and for good reason. They are an inherently unsanitary practice and says alot about a person's struggles with mental health. He had a good eye for teaching me. He'd even consider discussing the hires family health and potential for them to have to leave unexpectedly. Absolutely no women of child birthing age in some positions. Even the cars (jokingly I bet) people drive. He'd say... you see that? I bet the guy is gonna do this or he'll have to leave/quit in two weeks.

Anyways, might not sound politically correct this day and age where people might actually let a guy with pink hair in the kitchen but it worked for him and me. You start hiring trash and they see them coming and going and they'll associate that with you so keep it clean.

I was staying over at my sister's place, visiting my niece and nephew during the summer. I thought I would be nice and prepare breakfast for everyone as a surprise ( eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy). Can't figure out why my gravy isn't thickening right. Open canister clearly labeled "flour", taste it- it's powdered fucking sugar. I asked my sister why, and she said, "We got them as a set (the containers), and I don't ever use flour so I thought I would just put powdered sugar instead."

When I was 22-ish I was teaching myself how to cook more things than pasta or eggs. I was shallow frying some chicken, but because I was super paranoid about undercooking the chicken I had the heat much too high, which meant the oil was spitting all over the place. Instead of turning the heat down, I put a lid on the pot.

After a few minutes I removed the lid. At which point the aerosol of cooking oil that had formed within immediately caught fire. There was probably more than half a metre of flame shooting up, and rather a lot of smoke. For a few brief moments I pickup the pot and began rotating towards the sink, before coming to my senses, putting it down on the hob and placing a frying pan over the top of it. The pan was caked in burnt chicken and oil, and the pan was warped beyond use.

I spent ages trying to clean the oily smoke, but I kept finding new stains for a very long time afterwards.

Why wouldn't I be calm? I'm getting everything I want.

Season the beschemel as well as the completed mac before you toss it into the oven, little bit of salt, pepper, garlic, rosemary and thyme. Also mix more cheese into the mac not just on the top. Get a nice mix of cheeses too 50% mozzarella, 50% sharp cheddar is my go to

I had a fuck up where I put a whole metal pot with lid into our microwave. The lid started sparking, especially around the handle, and it emitted the worse smell. My dad came in asking what the smell was then freaked out and started yelling obscenities. I was like 9 years old.

use more butter in your roux. add sugar to the cheese sauce. add sodium citrate and acid to the sauce (may need powdered acid if you want it flavorless. citric or lactic). you can also experiment with making the sauce more cheesy by buying and adding powdered cheese.

but yes most people's minds go to boxed mac and cheese and these are things you can do to accomplish a box mac and cheese flavor and texture. raising the acidity of any food is an easy way to bring out flavors. you just have to be careful with milk and cheese sauces because if the acidity goes too high it can curdle and clump up, which sodium citrate would prevent.

it was probably splattering everywhere which is why the almost naked women didn't want to be near it. both of these people are incredibly retarded though. they had so much time to react and failed completely and finished it with the dumbest last resort option. imagine if the woman was alone. she would have literally just stood there and stared at it until the house burnt down.
