I met someone on discord who volunteered for Tekko Con. They suggested I go. I figured I needed to make some friends and try something new. I had wanted to get into cosplay for awhile but was too shy. I DIYed a cute espeon cosplay and got a lot of compliments. But I found it difficult to talk to anyone. When I would try to start a conversation, they'd either ignore me or would just talk briefly and be like "uh I gotta go" I work in sales for a living so I'm pretty good socially. Everyone was pretty nice overall but I was disappointed I didn't make any friends. What should I do in the future? I enjoy cosplaying and would like to try it some more

>>10975943For some reason, people at cons decided that cosplay meetups are the only areas where they can properly socialize with each other, so if you're wanting to meet people that's what you have to do. Be prepared to then have to chase said people down on some Discord server somewhere afterward.

>>10975943I assist a lot of friends when they're vending so this is mainly going to be focused on that standpoint but I think it applies to a lot of social situations in cons in general. The first thing to keep in mind is that cons are a place where friends from across the country travel to meet. If someone is doing that seeing their friend they only see a few times a year is the absolute top priority. I'm sure you're fine but I'd rather spend more time with the most amazing people in my life.Beyond that, yeah people at cons can be weirdly cold. A lot are going to be on the spectrum or just poorly socialized. All you can do is take a swing at whatever their special interest is and hope they bite. Lines, raves and some more social events are your best bets to get people talking. What's gotten me the most success is socializing outside of cons. Anime raves, art markets, etc. Anything that isn't a con that would attract the crowd you'd see at a con. Talk to people, bring up the upcoming con and chances are they could be going too. It feels to me like there's some kind of stink to being the new person they met at the con, you dodge that by becoming known elsewhere.i guess people use discords to "meet" people before cons then see them there but i'd rather die than suffer that humilation
