    >>10970216
As a con it's very oldhead, in attendees and things to do. It's also noticeably more political than anything else I know in the state. Don't be too surprised either, when you see that the venue is kinda small. On the unofficial side, 5 gulls handle the party side and we've had great reception till now

too bad the last thread was nuked bc my honest opinion about my previous adventures still stands

the scene is so dry ive been attending to one offs and cosplay raves (like the ones in baoshi) and theyre fine i guess but in the end its just people drinking eating or dancing or just talking
that place is not suited for a party but sure whatever

uhhhh fuckin uhhh collect a con was fine if you dont care about trading cards pokemon this isnt for you

megacon BAD im truly never going back ever again

otakufest being so close to me this year but not in miami is gonna be a shitshow but well see

ngl i might just hit up other cons outta state cuz the schedule this year is just not very good and coincides with other cons (otaku and AFO)

    metro is a fine con
some years are okay some years are hype and if you go with friends its better

i always go to it every year and i end up having a blast anytime i do
the dates this year is im not gonna lie kinda weird kinda off but whatever

but i have been critical over the years because its practically the same thing over and over between the chess matches and the fire show and the masquerade if anyones not too drunk to understand the story and dance time

theres no 18+ stuff and metro is a party con however last year they mentioned WHY theres no 18+ stuff

inna nutsack they making metro family/friendly and for entertainment only and theyre "not equipped or educated" enough to check ID and why they dont serve alcohol there

    >I just think the fandom needs a convention that focuses on entertainment and interactive events and community MORE than it needs another party con with 18+ panels at night.

????? isnt that the whole point of a con???
    >>
    This would be dope

i just got back from mizucon and well im very surprised because i had a good time

I’ll stop by and say hi tonight too a completely random Cgler, just kidding if there’s a cgl meetup I’d like that actually! Should we all set a time?

But AFO has changed, or maybe I just got older. Nah, it isn’t me it’s the kids who are wrong. It used to be a great party con at the Wyndham. Granted I haven’t gone since pre covid. Wish I had more cosplqya then generic ones but will be having Japanese whisky all day
    >>
    >>10970558
There’s also a history of Roy and team dynamite and insurance. That’s why. The convention center serves alcohol. Metrocon was the typical front runner of staff picking up underage girls, take them to rave, alcohol involvement and well what do you know, she was under 18.

Granted from the stories I’ve heard she was telling everyone she was over 21 finishing university and had a 18+ wrist band but this is decade old news as well.

Supercon and Miami cons are much worse in that aspect compared to central Florida cons.

I think the West Palm location is okay, but they'll probably max out the size they can grow to if they're there. It's a good spot for something like Miraicon to grow into, they're already way too big for a fucking hotel.
    >>
    >>10972730

I see what you mean, but I'm free for that weekend now and the events look good enough. The spacing between shows I'm interested in is also favorable for recharging my photo perv equipment, and I feel confident in bringing out the combined GDP of Somalia level gear since the photo policy is nice. Also I met a cute persona panther cosplayer a few months back that insisted metro was better than holmat, and though she is 100% fucking wrong, the red latex alone or whatever she's working on is going to be worth the cost of admission.

Not a lot of things that excited me at the con, vendor hall was ehhh, didnt go to any panels they were ungodly boring, however everyone I talked to were super cool and nice, we Florida boys really are good people.Only cosplayed for one day because it was a last minuet change of plans but a lot of people talked to me because of my costume and a good amount of the attendees were cosplayers in general I noticed, to give my final consensus the con was whatever but had a great time talking to people!

This year I'm gonna have to run some stuff by my crew cuz speaking DESU we flushed all of Saturday night down the toilet on an idea I knew was a fail from the start and it was. Comes from how spread out everything was. For 24 though, I can remember the exact moment feeling my soul getting bled dry: the huge uncanny, empty parking lot walk
    >>10975027
    >one reason I wish we'd get a con at the Florida Gaylord.
And mine is: the famous con actually at a Gaylord, Katsucon. Unless something changes, I'm branding it the unfriendliest least welcoming con of all. And I say this in full acknowledgment, that Holmat day people aren't a basket of rainbow sunshine either
    >>
    >>10975029
Oh yeah the Gaylord there is nice but I've been there for MAGFest which ironically is one of the nicest crowds I've seen. Gave me old holmat vibes, minus the Christmas stuff of course.
    >>
The con that shall not be named on this board was good enough and really put things in perspective. People flying over 9000 miles to be there and I'm just a 3 hour drive. Still, booking a Disney venue was a huge mistake anyone with a half functioning single cell brain could see
    >>
This year's metrocon was my first con EVER, and although I only went on the last day, I honestly feel like it captured the "pre-2020s" energy of anime cons I've been searching for!! (I'm only 18 so obviously I don't HAVE the experience of a pre-covid convention, but I've watched old con vlogs religiously and it was closer to those than say, modern AnimeExpo, if that makes sense).

Anyways, I'm currently saving up for my next cosplay, and want to go to my next con in December--is Holiday Matsuri still any good? Or has it been taken over by tourists??
    >>
    >>10976132
Mostly taken over by tourists and clout chasers; the soul is completely gone and some could argue the soul was gone a few years before it left the Marriott. Holmat last year was fine, still had a lot of Christmas themed cosplays but Orange County Convention center will never beat having it in that Marriott.
I had more fun at it than Metro tbdesu. Metro is a decent enough con but I think Holmat had more things to do. I'd potentially travel for Holmat if I didn't live in Florida but I don't think I'd ever travel for Metrocon.
