Is the value of a stock determined by how much money an institutional investor is willing to pay for a seat on the board of directors?

the value of a stock is determined by how much you think other people will pay for it in the future

okay, but the only actual value that can be derived from owning stock, outside the perceived value of retail investors and or dividends, is an institutional investor getting a seat on the board of directors.
    >>
if true you can easily earn trillions of dollars by shorting all stocks, good luck

the basic thesis i am proposing is the value of a stock is only realized when enough of that stock is held by an individual or entity to exercise control over the company that issues the stock and that also carries the implication that the institution buying the stock wants to change the way the company does business. all other stock ownership is trading around irrelevant percentages of that core concept. the reverse is also true, once the company is established the stock price is how much it is willing to pay to regain control of its board of directors from institutional investors.

there are free resources on the internet you can use instead of having to guess how things work

The 'actual value' needs to be defined
A lot of the top companies that deal a lot in software would be quite worthless if shit hits the fan.
Things like construction firms would probably skyrocket as they have real assets that cost time and real world materials, not code or IP, to create.
To most people the gains they make on stocks are actual value.

i'm saying the entire market is really an influence game and tech can have shit value in terms of profit/assets but the stock has value because people want a seat on the board of directors so they can influence technology that interacts with billions of people on a daily basis. this isn't about money, it's about power.

    No.

The value of a stock is determined by the Bid & Ask spread. The midpoint is basically the "true" value of the stock at any moment. The price is whatever the last person bought the stock for.

there is no value unless they pay dividends or you have a large enough share to have a say about how the company is run
    >>
it is determined by projected revenue
    >>
    >>62841751
no. stocks are just a claim on future profits. I think this trick will no longer work in the future.
    >>
There's a difference between actual value and perceived value, and this is why market corrections happen. You're correct that the real, non-monetary value for stocks is the actual ownership in the company, but most people buy stocks as an investment because stocks can appreciate value, and rarely do they buy enough to actually hold any influence in the company. As a result, stock valuations work similarly to an idealized market environment based solely on supply and demand. People buy stocks because they think the stock will become more valuable in the future, which in turn actually causes the stock price to rise.

It's more an open source lending bank putting money where it is wanted most at the time. If you got money, it's the most detailed, regulated and reliable casino in the land by design.
