Electrical engineer here. Been working for like 11 years. I design products that work, i love what i do. Yet I keep getting laid off or fired for silly reasons(last one was a spelling error after I got put on a PIP over multiple superiors telling me to charge different hours, making them coordinate with each other didnt work, still got blamed).
I started life at a hudge disadvantage, put myself through college beacuse my parents refused to sign the loan.. Went through hell and back while in school and while working. I officially give up. Im not blaming the companies, im the common denominator. I try my best to make people not hate me but my best doesnt work. Im not housebroken. Im probably a giant asshole and cant even see it. I cant navigate the boomer corporate minefield. Startups, medium size comapnies, big merchants of death contractors, i dont fit in with any of them. I have lost all hope and passion for what i do. No matter what, I piss people off. Im too weird and unashamed(i should be). I thought being an engineer I could just be judged on my output and not the content of my character. Maybe im just THAT repulsive. I'm really good at interviewing but the same open and ambitious personality doesnt translate into being tolerable long term, my resume is a scarlet letter at this point. I can already feel my time running short at my new job. I lost all the passion and hope I had for my career. They win. I dont even have it in me to try and justify my existance in the field anymore. They won. They are right, i am wrong. I dont know what im going to do. I dont want to go back to manual labor like before college. I was too feral even to be a technician, they didnt like me even when i was one of them. Im down to one friend thats already getting tired of my BS. I wish I could just make a living without interacting with people. There is no job that I can last at. I cant keep my stupid mouth shut, I tired.
    >>
And u know what? I probably deluded myself into thinking I have a good output. Im probably completely worthless. I failed at everything else i tried. Got fired for not making salads fast enough at a restaurant when I was a teen... Im just fucking good at interviewing, thats probably all there is to me still being employed and finding all these jobs. Ill probably find a higher paying job after this one and get fired even quicker and find a even higher paying job after that.... Im so fucking dead on the inside. How many 13 year olds figure out what they want to be and dont regret it in adulthood? Im one of the very few people that actually likes what they do, yet god hates me, so of course I suffer in the most sysphian type of way. Don't even know how to spell that Greek faggots name... I deserve worse than a firing. They should put me to a literal fucking firing squad next time. Im a drain to society. I white, but im worse than a jeet. I took all those job opportunities from people who deserved them more than me, which is every single person in this world.

Then start applying for remote jobs.
    >>
    >>62841154
I tried but as a hardware engineer there is no getting around having to show up to the lab to test the shit u built. I would fuck up a remote job anyways. U still have to go to meetings and answer emails.. All it will take is one night of bad sleep for me to reply something stupid

Also, like i said, I probably deluded myself into thinking im even good at desining shit or having any kind of significant output for what they pay me, which is not as much as it should be even if I was good.
    >>
Isn't EE one of the hardest degrees, use your studying skills to not be retarded socially or you will keep failing, being likeable will get you further than skill alone
    >>
    >>62841188
Half the students didnt graduate, its pretty hard, and I did it before AI.. Doesn't mean im not irredeemably asshole
    >>
    What’s with the novel?

But seriously your biggest mistake was picking EE. Hard degree and can it’s something that people might actually find interesting and thusly will try-hard at.
    >>
    Okay I read it

    >” How many 13 year olds figure out what they want to be and dont regret it in adulthood”

They don’t. They have a vague idea (like you) and they go with that, get trapped (with a kid and a fat wife) and spend the next 40 years wanting to jump into traffic. Middle age wagies are the more miserable than you can imagine. The reason why your co workers cannot talk about anything other than their kids is because there is nothing else going on in their lives that they don’t absolutely fucking hate including their spouses
    >>
    >>62841201
But I like what I do. Its dealing with people that makes me feel like im dead inside. I have a totally different problem than them

Humans (white people) were made to work for themselves…never gonna be happy working for someone else
    >>
Also the book “how to win friends and influence people” by dale carnegie…if you want to be liked you have to learn to remember peoples names and talk about what they are interested in….that or go live on a farm
    >>
    >>62841205
Most people hate some aspects of their job. For you, it’s having to deal with other people. Cherish the parts you like, and grind through the parts you don’t. I don’t really see any other option, and it’s what most people have to do anyway.
    >>
    >>62841163
    Lol bro ur stupid.
Just move to China and open a shop for repairing mobile phones. Or in those paki/indian bazaars

    >“how to win friends and influence people” by dale carnegie
    Unironically this.

Also, if I were to graduate EE, I would get the attestation for low voltage or high voltage installations and become a tradesman or power utility employee. You are basically avoiding meetings, going alone or with a small team, and client interactions are short (you like interviewing). Tismproof.

    >>62841134
    >>62841146

Im in the same boat as you, had to drop out of high school (first semester grade 11) to work fulltime because my mom left me at my uncles house over spring break and never came back to get me, I was working 40-60 hours a week at the age of 14 working in a pizza place run by notorioously abusive Italians.

so i got used to being treated unfairly, I manage to get accepted into a community college at 19 to try and get credits, took out the loans myself did a year of general classes all math and science, graduate and apply to go for Electrical Engineering, work extremely hard in college while working a fulltime job and paying bills and living with a girlfriend

I end up becoming a father at 22-23 my first daughter

I get my first industry job the year i graduate, working in a factory that makes high voltage control systems, of course its a temp job on contract, have to deal with a boomer with a glass eye who purposely makes issues & tries to sabotage me whenever possible just because he wants to be the last contract worker, his bullshit boomer tactics work, i get let go first even though i did a way better job and way quicker than him...

I get another job in an engineering research lab for a world leader in commercial dish & glass washers; my first salary position with benefits and vacation time, I end up having a second daughter and a son, so i have 3 kids at 27

covid hits and 93 employees get laid off, I get told with 0 days notice, basically get walked to a cab with a box, got a months pay, this is april 2020

I get arrested in June 2020 because i got into a fight with my brother who stole a firearm of mine, he lies to police and i go to jail until 2022, I got arrested for guns i legally purchased (canada

I am now 34, been unemployed since 2020 on paper, been working cash flooring jobs while on disability living in subsidized public housing.

there is only so much we can do
    >>
    >>62841395
Jesus man u have it worse than me. A lot of similarities though. Dropped put, community collefe then transfered to real colleg.e had to work my way through and it took me 8 years of being tossed around as an associate engineer. I thought it would end when I got my degree. Then the boomer tactics. I mean what are we supposed to do? We do a bad job we get fired, good job we get fired. There is no pleasing them

I managed to have a clean record only by the grace of god and isolating myself from people. Im aorey u got a felony on ur record. I dont know what to say dude. U have to find a way to keep moving. Maybe talk to a lawyer about getting the assault charge off ur record. Lie on ur resume about past couple of year and apply to small companies who are too lazy to fsct check..
    >>
    >>62841254
I hate manual labor with a passion. And being out in the elements. I did plenty of years of that shit, I would rather deal with this shit or sell drugs. Plus I got back problems that are under control but get back whenever I have to go and do manual labor like installing shit that involves digging shit outside for days on end. I work for small comapnies so they sometimes make engineers do beaner work but irs very rare. Reminds me why i went to college. Still dead inside either way.
    >>
    >>62841387
Seeth much u cuck lol, I might be dead on the inside but at least I didnt turn into someone like you
    >>
    >>62841372
Or, they work and they just simply dont need me anymore so they decide to make up a Bs excuse to let me go or just take the astounding from their insurance and lay me off. I appreciate the ones who have the decency to pay me off and not fire me at least
    >>
    >>62841368
Why would u go through a EE degree when u could juat go to trade school for that? That is so pointless. Also u still have to deal with boomers unless you open your own company. Then people dont disrepect u the same way at u but u might lose clients. Also power is the most boring subfield of engineering. Im in RF, antennas and sheeeeyt
    >>
    >>62841134
Just make your money and learn stuff and try to have fun. I have a similar experience but have just learned over time that it’s not that big of a deal since I’ll always be able to get a job regardless of job hopping, getting fired etc because there’s not enough people that are smart in this world. Take a break sometimes, stay passionate, work doesn’t have to be your life and I know it can be confusing when you’re passionate about your area of occupation but just try to relax
    >>
    >>62841261
I did, that book is not that deep. I cant control myself through. Like if they have a different political or religious view I try to okay the goy game and agree but I always end up opening my mouth. The other day football came up and I started talking about how they are all on rpids(nothing wrong with that, just a fact) and the vice president didnt like it. The fay before, it wss with a peon but still, he started talking about the 90 army preparedness thing thinking something is gonna happen and I didnt believe it so he told me "I thought u were into conspiracy theories" and I said ye but not he junk ones and tried beining up 911 and asked him if he believed in that and he litteraly short circuituted and started making noises like "maaa" "meeeh" instead of a response and I told him burying ur head in the sand isnt a rebuttal of the claim. Thats just from the past 2 days. I know i should have just kept my mouth shut and sat there quite both times. I cant help myself.

become a union electrician, its probably similar pay and better job security.
    >>
    >>62842016
I juat ordered a 50k tesla though. First nice thing I did formyself. Im terrified of getting fired in the middle of a job drought. Thankfully I got fired this summer after the 25-mid 26 job droubt ended. Got lucky. I was applying for months. Usually only takes me 1 month. Got the offer same day I got fired
    >>
    >>62842009
    >Why would u go through a EE degree when u could juat go to trade school for that? That is so pointless. Also u still have to deal with boomers unless you open your own company.
Ah, I see you made the connection.

Around here you need the degree to become an inspector. As in, some other smuck pricks his fingers on crimps and screws and holes, and you just come around, measure stuff if needed and sign off the work.

RF is different, you are closer to the applications and clients, sadly requiring close management. I understand you like the work you do, but what if the boring stuff keeps you employed for longer and better pay?
    >>
    >>62842027
First of all its boring as fuck, second its hard manual labor that takes a toll on ur body, 3rd, low pay co.pared to what i do now, 4th, no work from home, its glorifed wrench monkey work. And most importantly, I would STILL have to deal with boomers and a corporate minefield. If people dont like me(beaucse I dont agree with them about whatver) then I get fired and guess what, I dont agree with anyone and cant keep my big mouth shut about it..
    >>
    >>62842030
    >and guess what, I dont agree with anyone and cant keep my big mouth shut about it..
Sound like the average EE inspector job requirement.
    >>
    >>62842029
Oh I see, I would have to take the PE(professional engineer) exam and get certified. I have a clearance so I habe the equivalent of that in the RF world lol. Trust me, I would still get fired beacuse i would have to deal with people and I still have to make small talks but after being in 4chan since 2009 there is not such thing as small talk with me and I cant learn to keep my mouth shut about it. Its like in the moment I dont give a fuck. Of course I go home and bury my head in pillows in shame afterwards, all I had to do was keep my mouth shut. Even if I did keep my mouth shut, boomers will stopl find a way to fire me. U cant go too good or bad of a job. If its not perfectly balanced u get fired. Its impossible to meet up to their standards. Its like if women only dated 5'9.6284 exactly men. If u are 0.001 taller or shorter they wont date u. It would be crazy but the boomer have a good reason, they want to push us all out and keep their jobs for as long as possible. They dont have grandkids to focus on. All they have left is their job
    >>
    >>62842037
Except when small talk comes around and I have an extreme opinion that not one soul inthe world ourside of maybe this shithole agrees with on something even as small and mundane as how to cook steak properly. Either way I need ti stop talking and let them talk and nod my head. I have known this for years, I still cant help myself

Anon. You have possibly the most valuable knowledge economy degree right now. I get that you're demoralized but get what you can before AI and/or a financial crisis blows this whole shitshow out of the water. In another few years you may not be able to come back even if you want to.

Have you tried the semiconductor industry? You probably won't make designer but there's a lot of supporting roles and silicon can't be easily ripped off by the Chinese (yet) so it's more stable. Of course the bubble is probably about to pop so not sure how good the employment outlook will be for the next year or so. But you should consider it. And if you *can* make designer then as long as you're good enough it actually might not matter how autistic you are (but, don't get ahead of yourself, you basically need PHD-level knowledge for that to be true).
    >>
Also. Seconding other anons that PCB design is obsolete as a career sadly. The cold truth is if you're doing something worthwhile, someone's going to make an ASIC for it, and if you're not the Chinese can make it cheaper.
    >>
    >>62842070
The company i am in just got a 5 year contact from the military. Also I specialize in RF, thats as valuable as semiconductors.. You arent hearing my problem though. It doesnt matter how good or specialized I am, I will still get fired cuz I cant keep my mouth shut during small talk. Which is usually unavoidable. If it is avoidable I cant avoid it beacuse im socially starved and can't help but make friends at work thet quickly turn into enemies after they find out my beliefs
    >>
    >>62842079
Good thing I desing antennas also. Also AI cant do RF front ends or 30+ layer dense boards.. It will never have enough attention to detail. It might get 99 percent there but they will need someone like me to finish the other 1 percent. If it can do it all then trust me every other job will also be obsolete. Being a wernch money isnt rocket science, which i have done and moved on to more complex stuff lol
    >>
    >>62842083
    >>62842087
    >RF engineer
    >Autistic
somehow this fits my preconceived notions....
Well anyways. I guess the good news is your skillset will probably be less affected by the inevitable bubble pop. Maybe not even by AI though with memeGPT solving Navier Stokes it's probably coming at some point. Honestly your best bet is probably just to 'tismaxx and get as good as possible. In your field, there probably is a point where you can be good enough to just do whatever the fuck you want.

Also, normally I wouldn't recommend this but have you considered contracting? A lot of defense companies seem to do things that way and that would lock you into a set time period that looks less suspicious on your resume. A lot of short salaried jobs = questionable, not a team player, a lot of short contracts = ohh entrepreneur spirit etc.

Im already using AI to help me when im desining something new. We actually just got delayed on a project a week cuz my team chimped out that I used AI and wanted to go with a different approach. I wasnt trying to argue with the more experienced engineers but a week later I asked a question "are u sure yadda yadda" and tursn out they arent and we did need to go with that AI suggested lol
    >>
    >>62842106
Also ye contracting, thats the answer. I knew a engineer who was making 400k a year contracting in 2015. I turned down a part time 110 an hour contract, I can just stack those. Ye that's the route ill take.. thanks for reminding me

This is a skill you need to master when dealing with normies. If you can't shut your mouth you will end up laid off every time. This has happened to my coworker numerous times, like he cant shut the fuck up and he is mentally unstable and quick to complain and openly insult his managers. This is interesting. My paranoid loose cannon coworker has been taking medicinal weed for the last 12 years and I have no doubt it has affected him in the same way you describe yourself. Demetsia also runs in his family, his mom recently died of that. So weed + a family history of that is a bad combo. But long term weed use is bad regardless. It fucks your mind.

I have issues with (maybe once yearly) loosing my temper on people at work and I think it had to do with long term alcohol use, so I am having to learn to control these emotions I never used to have because it is never good to lose your temper professionally.

    >>
    >>62842430
Also, part of me feels like im not really getting fired for my personality. Sometimes I feel like companies simply overhire and treat w2 employees as contractors...

Just like with any flattery or pet names…it has to be genuine to be effective…if you can’t be genuine with someone you need to find someone you can be genuine with…you’re only cheating yourself

Fellow recovering asshole (chemical engineering) here. How to win friends is an ok book but pretty outdated. Emotional Intelligence 2.0 is much more effective. It's also very helpful to pay someone like a sales coach to help develop soft skills.

Interesting things happen when the quintessential problem solver realizes that he himself is the problem

    What happens?

Also I dont think u understand, i know that I should keep my lithium shut. I just cant control it. Does this book teach meditating skills or some shit like litteraly biting your tounge when talking with people?

    >Wtf did he even mean?
He meant robots that pick up raw rocks and turn them into finished cybercabs in a few hours without storage or human participation, probably...

Humans shouldn't be doing manual labor anyways

    >Humans shouldn't be doing manual labor anyways
The economy exists, because X people are processing Y new resources each year. Remove humans or remove the new resources and you have nothing. To own, operate and distribute the resources, humans are needed to be part of the process, otherwise we cease to exist.
    >>
    >>62842707
Ye, humans need to direct the robots were to distribute the reasources. Not do beaner work like a beaner. Manual labor destroys your body its not like working out

I suck at interviewing so I usually end up at jobs I'm very overqualified for. I usually stay at them a while but I usually get filtered for very high salary stuff because I spill my spaghetti in interviews

    >hudge disadvantage
    >>
why did the drug addicted retard take over this thread from OP?
oh, wait. I guess I answered my own question...
    >>
    >>62842384
Yeah I've lived around pot smokers all my life. Never tried it, got anxiety just from 2nd hand smoke in the air. Didn't notice much of a difference in them for a long time, but they were getting whatever some retard grew in their shed. Ever since they started regularly getting shit that was 30%+ THC when it got legalized, and on to the concentrates, their minds have been a shitshow. Zero emotional regulation, no impulse control at all which leads into polyaddictions either just blacking out drunk every day or worse stuff. One went from a well-paying remote upper management job to cursing out subordinates while day drinking and eventually got pissed at the boss and cussed him out too while drunk and got fired. Alcohol's the real killer there, but so many of them have picked up multiple addictions after they got into "medical" marijuana instead of dirt weed.

    >I got back problems
I have an EE diploma but knew before graduating most of those jobs had already gone east, this was pre2k.
I loved tough outdoor work, my back problems went away and got really fit.
The thing with that education is you can really job right into any field you want, it certainly won't hurt in this timeline.
You could try something like day trading or any other biz requiring advanced math skills, accountant, trustee in bankruptcy will be a big one soon...but really you should try outdoor manual labor just to see if your back problems go away first. You are free to hate your co-workers in most of those positions. Health and happiness are key traits to have in life.
    >>
You have to be statistically outlier to recover from work related injuries. Great job in beating the 1% rare odds.

Why not see a therapist? Even autistic people are not always this self destructive. It seems like your shit talking is just a mask for some unresolved issue and in therapy, you can learn better ways to cope with it but you have to find out what is causing it.
    >>
    >>62841368
    This.
OP: You have been dealt a mixed bag. But you have strong cards with EE, liking what pays you and interviews. Don't change these; find workarounds for the others.
Become likeable and confident. Fake it until it becomes true. I started learning of this in my late 20s. Went from aspie programmer who whored in his 20s to lose virginity to gf, then married with kids, six figure, management, comfy upper middle, all this being a fucking aspie with zero innate social skills and now somehow analysts and PMs want me to deal with difficult meetings because I learned to fake nonchalance and I'm there like I own the company and have a magic plan for everything.
At first it was ALL fake. And I had a bad personality and people were split between hating or mocking me.
