Responsible companies wouldn't have to worry about their stock prices getting into a bubblethey could say, "oh, we're trading at 80x times earnings. lets close trading for a little bit"Companies would be able to tame prices that get too out of hand. And when prices get out of hand, it makes problems, and expectations that the company can't live up to,and then the stock price gets decimated at the first report where everything isn't beyond perfect. This is harmful to the company.People that are long term shareholders wouldn't have a problem with this. It would even be good for them, and reduce volatility. But people that intend to flip it at the first moment there's an extreme valuation would hate it. Long term, though, it would be a boon. Stability and consistency would help the company to grow faster.it's never good when a company goes from fairly valued to speculative. The greater fool theory takes over instead of fundamentals.BRKB and JNJ as examples of what stability and consistency can do for a company. They just grind up in valuation, and rarely correct. BRKB has the smoothest compounding curve of any company in the world, and if BRKB were to actually become a speculative name Warren Buffet would do everything he could to shut it down, and clip it as soon as possible. Warren Buffet built his company with this is mind.
>>62840592If you don't get to decide on when to sell a stock then you don't own it. Simple as.
Nah, that's dumb. If I buy a stock, I own it. I should be able to sell it. The only reason circuit breakers are acceptable is because it's the actual exchange stopping trading, not the individual companies. If they did that, I would just move my ownership to paper stocks or refuse to invest in them.
if you're not allowed to sell something, it's literally worthless
