Recently there was a thread where OP talked about a frog sighting that ultimately saved his life. I looked for the thread and it’s gone now.
But I’m raising bullfrog tadpoles and made this gif for him and his thread. If you’re out there somewhere, froganon, this one was for you!

When I introduced the bullfrog ‘poles, my mystery snail inspected/cleaned them. Wish I’d got a better pic but the tadpole blasted away across the tank before I could fully focus

Enclosures. Two 20 gallons. They both have rear heating pad and a lamp. Not sure of the uv wattege anymore but not desert heat level. Manual bowl change, I got a bit spray gun, also I recently added more moss and the little one loves it. Little one gets two swimmy pools.

Today PetSmart had a cricket shortage so goldfish were on the menu. Both were pleased. Haven’t served that up in a long while. Mainly cricket diet with calcium powder. Gut fed with whatever veggies I eat. Used to give Dubias when they were smaller not much now. I sometimes do hornworms. Wax worms for small one like French fries. Big ones gets super worms sometimes.

Unfortunately I need to rehome them soon since I am joining the army. Had them 7 years. It’s been a good ride.

Very nice and I appreciate the inspiration. The bullfrogs live most of their life aquatic and require minimum 50 gallons. I’m thinking of doing 100 and having a dugout for a “pond” in the middle for him to lurk. I got the tadpoles from an in state pond supply store so I’ll just be keeping one and the others will go to my buddy’s pond.
I really like your double stack setup in particular. I have tanks all over like some kinda fool

PC posting now. I wish I had more space for them to be in bigger tanks. I feel they've lived good here. Frequent water changes and very moist dirt kept them pretty good. I wonder if they were dwarf pixies because I felt they shoulda been bigger.

At other points I rehomed a pacman from PetSmart and it wouldn't eat at all so he passed. RIP

Also had a treefrog that was native to my area. My brother brought it home in a Starbucks Frappuccino glass bottle. He saw some dead appearing treefrog at work but noticed it breathed slow and put water in the glass. Was just stuck in dust and dirt so it sprung to life. He brought it home for me since I always wanted pixies but my first frog was that little one. I had it 6 years or so. It was so cool to watch it small crickets. Mega hunting jumps. Sierran treefrog btw

What critters you got? also frog pics if you have some.

careful with the goldfish, they contain thiaminase and prolonged feeding can result in neurological issues. fine for occasional feeds though, and you're clearly giving them a varied diet so good for you for that.

    >>5170551
Good to know. I fed it as a treat meal couple years ago every once in a while but this was the first time since. They usually struggle to catch them if the water is low and it's kind of sad if the frog doesn't eat fast.

The enclosures you have seem really nice for pacmans. I’ve had one before and I kept him pretty awesomely happy in a slightly smaller one, though we did take him out for “enrichment” hilariously often. I’ve had a toad too, just the plain kind from outside. Loved that lady.
The bullfrog setup would need to be so huge because they actually spend most of their life in the water. They need to actually swim and be able to lurk fully submerged. Really, the space they need compared to how interesting they actually are would be ridiculous for the average person but I just really fucking love frogs. A couple tree frogs I used to have would hear me talking sometimes in the spring and start croaking along with me. It was really cool, I guess something about the pitch of my voice and the season would set them off.
Right now I’ve got the 20-25 tree frogs from the initial tadpole setup, the current bullfrog tadpole setup (I guess it can easily take 1-3 years for them to complete metamorphosis), a bearded dragon my local pet shop gave me for free, and a now empty 15 gallon tank that housed a fucking massive Chinese mantis until recently here. That mantis was so goddamn big and angry so since it was invasive, I just kept her inside and watched her eat crickets until the end of the season. She laid her egg sack, I put her outside in the morning in the garden to pass peacefully, and then I destroyed the egg sack out of her vision because I was worried she might see and get upset. Such amazing animals, shame they’re invasive here.
    >pic rel is some of the tree frogs

Though it’s early in the process of raising the bullfrogs, I’ve noticed the tadpoles themselves are already significantly more “aggressive” than the tree frogs ever were. The tree frog tadpoles were pretty skittish. They got used to my hands eventually but it took time.
I have a bunch of water hyacinth with the dangling roots floating up top that you can see here >>5170410 and obviously they munch the roots. When I go to work in the tank I have to shake them off the roots. The tree ‘poles would scatter almost immediately when I do that. The bullfrog ‘poles, however, don’t seem scared of anything and I have to shake HARD to even get them to let go. Even after that, they’ll dive back toward the food before I can even get the roots fully away from them. They’re serious about eating lmao

if you've got a big box pet store near you you can probably pick up some silversides, these are specifically means for carnivorous fish, which have the same thiaminase issue if fed regular "feeder" goldfish as a staple.
they're already dead obviously, but knowing what frogs are like I doubt that will be an issue.

meant to attach pic related and didn't. be careful with just buying silversides, though, as (like a great deal of fish) it's a common name across multiple species, and some are fine to feed, while others aren't.

The croaking thing is really funny, I've only heard one of my frogs croak on few occasions.
What do you plan to do with all those tree frog tadpoles when they grow up? also the mantis sounds like a fun thing to watch feed.

    >>5170691
thats cool, never heard of silversides before

Oh damn I might end up checking that out lol. Just in case any body else sees this and thinks “hey maybe I should get some ‘poles”, one word of caution
    >tadpoles have an extremely high rate of metabolic activity. The bigger the tadpoles and the more of them you have, the more intense this will be. They eat a LOT and piss/shit a LOT.
    >They are hilariously weak swimmers and also little brainlets, however, so most common types of filter run a significant risk of injuring or killing them
    >this means that you’ll want a filter specifically designed to be unable to suck them in and also makes a weak enough current that they can still swim freely
    >OR you will need to be changing 40%-60% of their water daily
It’s really not so bad but I definitely want to express that they’re not necessarily super low maintenance. You have to like frogs enough to want to do it well.

Giving slow replies so I don’t obnoxious-bump my own thread constantly
    >What do you plan to do with all those tree frog tadpoles when they grow up?
They already did grow up, actually! I got sad with my empty tank after they graduated so I got the bullfrog tadpoles to keep having fun.
I have the tree frogs sorted into a couple arboreal enclosures by size so the biggest ones can’t hurt the smallest ones. There’s maybe 20-25 of them total. They eat a lot of fucking crickets lmao
