Which animals are much bigger than you previously thought? I always assumed that okapis were about the size of a donkey or an average deer
    >>
Though I've seen them in person, I always forget how ginormous a moose actually is.
    >>
What about the opposite: I was staying with a friend in colorado, he has a house in the mountains, and Isaw my first black bear in the wild, and I genuinely thought it was just a really fat dopey black lab until it got closer.
    >>
I always assumed they were about the size of a hare
    >>
    >>5165629
    that's why they say this
    >>
    >>5165629
    >>5165763
even so they still kill people in north america each year
    >>
    >>5165618
well they're basically giraffes so it makes sense
    >>
i mean it IS in the name, but still
    >>
    >>5165886
No they don't. Since 1900, they've killed 67 people. That's all. In 126 years, they've killed one person roughly every 687 days. That's almost two years. 43 people have been killed by dogs in 2025 in just the US alone. Dogs kill more people in 19 months than black bears have killed in 1500 months.
    >>
    >>5165907
    these things have huge dicks
    >>
    >>5165917
So what you are saying is that they still kill people in the US then
    >>
    >>5165939
    Don't backpedal on
    >each year
or try to move goalposts just because you were wrong.

My bad i'm NTA and i didn't read the "each year" part

there's a guy in my town that has some bactrian camels he walks around and they're huge, probably 8 feet tall. I always thought they were horse size.
    >>
    >>5165917
There are over 100 million dogs in NA. Are there 100 million black bears? Are there remotely even close to that? Are you a negro? Would you be incapable of understanding per capita?
    >>
    >>5166015
    Jesus Christ, you're retarded.
    >>
    >>5166019
No you are a negro then. Figures.

Before I found out what they looked like I had no idea tuna fish were as massive as they are, I thought they were just like little salmon fellas.
    >>
    >>5166118
This shocked me at first too, Albatross are so massive that they can't even land properly, they just slow down as much as possible and slam into the ground.
    >>
For most of my life I imagined pigs as being the size of dogs only to learn that they're much bigger.
    >>
    >>5166142
Depends on the breed. Micro pigs are roughly the size and weight of large dogs, 75-150lbs. But yeah, people expect micros to be the size of kittens because unscrupulous breeders marketed them by only showing videos and photos of piglets and calling them cute things like teacup pigs, These Little Piggies, Pennywell Pocket Pigs™ and so on. If you want a real shock, look up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogzilla

I always have the inverse feeling when I see a snow leopard in real life, they're actually so much smaller than how they look in pictures.
    >>
I remember thinking Emperor Penguins were huge, but they're only like 2.5 feet tall.
    >>
    >>5166174
Are you sure you aren't thinking of another species? i'm pretty sure emperors can be like 4 feet tall (which is still not that big but you now)

Snow leopard is my go to medium size cat for comparisons. Still a sizable cat.
    >>
    >>5166118
they are the biggest flying bird alive, aren't they? along with condors, I think
    >>
    >>5165921
I'm afraid to search that up
    >>
    >>5166579
I always forget which one is bigger but yes
    >>
    >>5165619
This. Moose are fucking giant wilderness goats.

Any whale, but that's sorta cheating. Still, the pure scale difference in a human to even the larger dolphins is humbling, and something like a humpback is straight up testicle shrinking. Then blue whales are like 50% larger - though I've never seen them IRL I'd assume they'll give anyone immediate thalassophobia.

No they're fucking not. The prickly cunts are, like, 50lbs.

For me, it's rats. I lived into my late 30s without ever having seen a wild rat. Then I found a dead one on my doorstep one morning, possibly from a neighbourhood cat my wife was friendly with.
I knew rats were big but I wasn't expecting just their heads to be the size of a whole mouse or vole.
I know it sounds retarded, I just was never around wild rats and while we had rats at my high school's animal lab, they were friendly, domesticated ones. I just figured wild ones wouldn't be so big. Still haven't seen a live wild rat yet.

that's an elephant seal, and their males are bigger than walruses
    >>
    >>5166171
That's manuls for me. For some reason I thought they'd be somewhere between a large wildcat and a small lynx but they're actually smaller than your average house cat.
    >>
    >>5168804
I just searched walrus and picked the first image where it looked big. I am truly sorry and will do better next time, I could blame the search engine but ultimately the responsibility for species confirmation lies with me. I hope that in time you will come to forgive me.
    >>
    >>5165618
tuna, I think it's because they look like the most stereotypical normal kind of fish that you associate with being like a foot long, so it's weird to see how gigantic they can get
    >>
    >>5165968
yeah I wonder why the ELEPHANT seal is that big, truely a mistery
    >>5168827
nta, and it's less about species confirmation and just not knowing what a walrus looks like, but I forgive you
    >>
    >>5168834
How on earth do they fit them into the cans?
    >>
    >>5168834
When i was like 5 years old i saw some guys pulling out out of the water and i was traumatized for the rest of my life. Looking at that shit made me feel like a fucking flea next to it

if it's black, jump the fuck back
if it's brown, make it frown
if it's white, put up a fight

    >>
    >>5168842
In the unlikely case this was a serious post, they get a bazillion cans of meat out of one fish. If you bought a whole tuna like the one in that pic you'll end up paying $20k+ easily .
    >>
    >>5169307
Nonsense. That's a bluefin, yes, but they're not nearly as expensive as you claim. That fish looks to be about 600lbs and I know they are sold dockside for about $7/lb. It is almost certainly worth less than $5k. At most, $7k, but that's extremely unlikely.

Tunas are actually pretty strange-looking, they only seem like stereotypical fish to you because you're used to seeing them on cans.
