>>
I love Vetra so much but I don't have it in me to replay Andromeda. Here's hoping the new one will have a fem Turian romance option, not even buying it otherwise.
>>
>>
>>9319247
If they've made the stupid fucking decision to have us play as Shepard again in the new Mass Effect than I doubt they'll be any new romances to speak of. If we play as a new character with an entirely new cast of companions than I think a fem-Turian is basically a shoe-in.
>>
>>9319251
They've already made the stupid fucking decision to go Somehow, Cerberus returned, so we're off to a bad start if you ask me. I don't think that would necessarily cut out any new possible romances though. Andromeda had non-crew romance options, so even if they do a returning main cast there might still be side characters you could get with.
>>
>>9319232

sorce?
>>
>>9319330
My ass.
>>
>>9319330
Really it's just speculation, but from the few teases they dropped it doesn't look off the table. Mike Gamble once said on Xitter all N7 days connect. In 2022 they showed a Mass Relay in Cerberus colors and the 2023 teaser trailer has some barrels again in Cerberus colors. Not much to go on, but considering how tight-lipped they are showing that seems intentional. Could be they pull a fast one and introduce a new faction that just gypped the white and gold scheme.
>>
>>9319359
>Really it's just speculation
Then why did you say>>9319255
>They've already made the stupid fucking decision to go Somehow, Cerberus returned
Or was that another Anon?
>>
>>9319360
No yeah it was me, it's been a while since I heard or read anything about it and I misremembered it as being more of a slam-dunk reveal. Sorry.

But in my defense, what else in Mass Effect flies white and gold as their main colors?
>>
>>9319367
A brand new faction we haven't seen. As you admit >>9319359 Possibly Cerberus Remnants or the SA appropriating whatever they had.
Or is the white/gold color scheme now verboten for all future Mass Effect entries like how Nazis means we can't draw the swastika?
I understand where you're coming from re: color scheme associated with faction. But you're extrapolating a hell of a lot from two screenshots. Imagine saying the new enemy faction is rogue N7s because you've seen ships and BARRELS painted red & black, and only the N7s use that color scheme.
>>
>>9319384
Forbidden no, not by any means. But introducing a new faction that uses similar or even the same aesthetics as a major antagonist from Not That Long Ago, to me it seems like the less likely possibility.
Fuck it I hope I'm wrong, I'd rather see something new instead of retreading old ground. I'd even take an Andromeda reboot with a more competent writing team, cause I think the premise is actually decent.

Based for drawing her but please make her a bit thicker. I know she's not particularly curvy in-game, but it's nice to have some dough to knead. Props for giving her body some textures instead of making it all smooth though.
Also the forehead is a bit too high and jaw too recessed, makes her look baby-faced. Pic related is the only side profile I found of a Namara, but you can see what I mean.

it's amazing just how hard they fucked up the show. I mean go back and look up all the live action halo 3 and halo ODST promotional commercials from back in the day. Those commercials had more effort and impact in less then 3 minutes then that show could ever hope to drum up in a whole season. All they had to do was make a semi-documentary with old guys pretending to be war vets from the human-covenant war who would just tell their stories of the battles they fought while the show goes back to show said battle from their point of view. Wouldn't even have to put the show in chronological order just show a highlight real of the war and let people piece it together.

Hell you wouldn't even need to a spartan every episode so when one finally does show up and just fucks shit up it would have an even bigger impact then if you just fallowed around John Halo the entire time.
>>
>>9328503
>All they had to do was make a semi-documentary with old guys pretending to be war vets from the human-covenant war who would just tell their stories

- the episode where the news can't be trusted to tell the story straight but by god the friends of this dude (military and not) will do some illegal shit to set it right again
- the episode where the crippled post-war vet saves someone's life despite disassociating at the same time, and is ultimately left unresolved (despite their mental state, they evade or escape arrest or are released as a personal agreement)
- the episode where it's a diplomatic meeting and the human and one of the aliens from the now-former covenant speak off-the-record to one another and the only mutual agreement they reach is that they need to remove themselves from the process because their judgement is too tainted by their emotions.
- the alien torture episode (the alien is the one getting tortured; spoilers: it's the one that's most likely to know about human culture and so, knows what's going on) (spoiler spoilers: about 2/3rds through the episode it's revealed to be a post-war courtroom procedural drama about crimes in war... but it's a civilian court and not a military tribunal!)
- "The amnesiac ___, in the (any) alien village."

>Wouldn't even have to put the show in chronological order
the episode where a bunch of human kids on a colony world find a former battlefield centuries later and start to do dumb shit there, getting stopped before they kill themselves by some of the other former covenant member alien races doing cleanup, then the children ask the aliens a bunch of very child-like and personally injurious questions to the aliens (because none of the people involved were alive for the war when it happened and all of the living memories are gone) (shit writing warning: "the aliens uncover a mass grave of children; the human children were ghosts all along! OOOOH SO SPOOKY!")

It should be easy for a medium size studio to make a Mass Effect spin off if they don't try and copy the original trilogy and instead do a smaller story set in the same universe.

The questions are: Will the Saudis auction/license the IP? How much would they ask for it? And who would be the best to handle it?

>>
>>9331075
might be a bit of an echo chamber just being on this thread but I feel mass effect still has some life in it. From what I heard people mostly liked 3 they just thought the ending was dog shit and most people don't really think about Andromeda all that much. I feel one good game could breathe some life back into the franchise... but at the same time one more bad game will probably be the final knife in its back to kill it off for good.
>>
>>9331087
Counterpoint, 3 came out in 2012 and andromeda in 2017. Granted that legendary edition with all the games came out not too long ago and did okay at around 59,000 on steam alone. I think the main issue is ME was always a AA game that EA wanted to force to be AAA and a lot of the series issues can stem from that.
>>
>>9331046
The octopus in the mech suit is the only thing I've seen from this that is actually somewhat interesting and novel.
>>
>>9331095
don't think age matters to much these days since we've kind of been in a gaming drought since 2016. And seeing the hype and hope around the dead space and halo remakes... granted only dead space really delivered here but it does show that older games still have a fan base who are just waiting for some life to be breathed back into their franchise of choice.

Though I will admit EA right now is kind of weird. They are notorious for turning gold into crap but with every game they make outside of their sports game (which only do well because they basically hold a monopoly on the genre) just bleeding money and the AAA industry basically in the toilet right now I feel like they're putting some effort into games again. Case in point the aforementioned Dead space remake. But EA is still EA so who knows what they're going to do with the mass effect IP.
>>
>>9331046

>Let's make a sci-fi game!
>No meaningful amount of aliens

So far I have seen an octopus in a suit and a big frog, that's about it.
I don't think these guys quite understood what made Mass Effect so special. It was like Star Trek.
What was so fascinating was the amount of aliens and their role in the setting.
I wish I was excited for this game, but I really don't care that much about a very human centered sci-fi shooter.
Especially since it has a color palette ranging between dark grey and brown.
>>
>>9331478
Fucking this. I genuinely don't understand why every sci-fi and fantasy game is so fucking human-centric, and utterly refuses to let the play have actually alien and fantastical companions. Its fucking infuriating, because the whole fucking point of settings like that is that they have weird and exotic freakshit in them that you can interact with.
Any time I see a new sci-fi or fantasy game, the first thing I do is check the player race options and companion roster. If its just boring dime-a-dozen humans and elves I disregard it.

Welcome to /xeno/, we have a rich history of complaining about the disturbing lack of xeno romantic content and recycle what already exists and scatter like roaches to whatever we can get our hands on. Wouldn't have it any other way.

It genuinely boggles my mind how so many sci-fis now adays- movies, shows, games, and even books either neglect or outright REFUSE to add the existence of aliens. Fucking pulp sci-fi from the 1950s had more alien diversity than we do now a days. I'd say the most egregious example is Starfield, which chose to be entirely humano-centric for no other reason other than to be boring I guess. Fantasy is slaughtering us sci-fi fans with the fact they're letting you crack lizard men and mind flayers ffs.

Wow, it's like looking into a mirror. A yearning mirror.
>It genuinely boggles my mind how so many sci-fis now adays- movies, shows, games, and even books either neglect or outright REFUSE to add the existence of aliens.
Probably a mix of creative and developmental laziness. Making good and satisfying alien concepts requires an inspired mind. Adding them to a game and not just having them all represented by one or two models at most requires a bunch of work. Way easier to just make everything human.
But frankly, I agree. There is no sci-fi universe I can get into unless it has at least a few aliens and they feel like their own species on the level of humans. A sci-fi setting that is all about humanity's exploration or glory in an otherwise lonely universe does nothing for me.

I'd hate to say you're right, but you're right. The current state of sci-fi is that aliens require actual thought and care put into it with original designs across the board. Fantasy meanwhile can reuse and recycle its own species because that's what's expected of it. Orks, Lizardmen, etc.
>A yearning mirror.
It's a small, but welcoming mirror. I myself am writing my own sci-fi setting, and have been for a while.
>>
>>9331756
>The current state of sci-fi is that aliens require actual thought and care put into it with original designs across the board.
And if you care at least a little, you'll want to make it biologically and anatomically sensible. Moreover, you'd want to make it sensible while also having it be alien. Multiple hearts, different lung positions, respiratory mechanics, etc. If you're creative enough, thinking of some stuff can be pretty easy, but then you still need to adhere to some semblance of what sounds 'realistic' or at least verisimilar enough that you don't make something that is totally unviable. It's a delicate balance. A good sci-fi setting needs probably at least 3 non-human sapient species as a bare minimum to not feel too isolated. It's a lot.
>Orks, Lizardmen, etc.
Yep, fantasy has some staples. Even if you alter them a bit, there's a foundation to work with. Sci-fi just has rubber forehead aliens, and I think most real xeno lovers don't really care for those. I really don't; too human.
>It's a small, but welcoming mirror. I myself am writing my own sci-fi setting, and have been for a while.
Oh, that's great. I myself have been thinking of some stuff, but it's not really well-rounded yet. I started with the concept for an alien species for a primary character and am working my way outward from there. The focus is meant to be male human/xeno female romance, so I guess I had that idea lead me by the nose, and now I need to make up a believable enough setting around that. I don't want to half-ass that, because it's what's going to make the rest feel either believable, or like a paper mache cutout. It's a veritable rabbit hole once you get going.
Other than that, I'm also using roleplay as a way to explore those ideas with existing settings, like Mass Effect.

What's the most outrageous part about Andromeda is that Vetra is actually good character with attractive personality, she's just stuck in a shit game.
They somehow managed to create a good Turian wife in an otherwise failed product. It's unfair.
Especially since female Turians in general for some reason were absolute kryptonite for Bioware.
When they added one, Nyreen went out in a suicide attack that was entirely meaningless. That seriously pissed me off, almost as much as the color option endings did.
Well at least we have Vetra as an official fem Turian design so there's that.

I think one big factor is the suits in the entertainment sector. These guys want to stick with the safest option imaginable.
In Mass Effect 3 the higher ups wanted to leave out Tali from the third game entirely, which would have been idiotic. One writer pushed really hard for her to be included and that's why she's in.
They really wanted to force Liara as the default romance option, who is of course the most human looking option of the bunch and by design.
Perhaps at some point these guys learn that there's appeal in non human looking romance options when it comes to men.
Women can fuck any kind of a monster, but the male oriented romance/sex options are always without a fail painted humans with some head ornaments.

And worse, it seems modern suits can't understand percentages and ratios. They can only think in absolute numbers.

They don't understand a product that costs 10 million and makes back 120 million is more profitable than one that costs 200 million and makes back 300 million. They just see the final number and they want the bigger one.

So they push for every movie/game to be a massive AAA super block buster, and so they cut back on anything "risky" to "ensure" it works out and "guarantees" the profit.

Exactly how I feel about Andromeda. The game sucks donkey balls, but somehow Vetra is so good. She doesn't even have the commonplace issue of weird janky animation. Not as much as the rest, at least.
And still she got stiffed by not getting a proper sex scene. How are you gonna mog all your competitors at half power? She somehow does it.
>Especially since female Turians in general for some reason were absolute kryptonite for Bioware
Which is funny, considering I think they're one of Bioware's better designs. Biased, though, of course.

It's really just personal stuff with a roleplaying partner of mine. Nothing I plan to throw out there in the wider world. Beyond what I'm doing here, I guess. I really, genuinely don't mind people preferring the aforementioned rubber forehead aliens. In fact, if there's more humanlike aliens, that also means the ones that are less human stick out more. I don't begrudge people being into blue or green humans. But it doesn't evoke the kind of cross-species extraterrestrial starcrossed fantasy in my own head.

Supposedly a "Mass Effect 5" trailer leaked of what BioWare was working on

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP3ieef0mpE

My honest opinion? It kinda looked cool at first glance, but the more I think and digest it the worse it get. It doesn't actually show anything about the story or gameplay or the wider world. The dialog is a bit cringy, but the real issue is that they talk but say nothing. The models looks nice but because of "in engine footage" that means very little.

I am willing to bet EA shut them down because they were shown this trailer and when the executives said "Ok that's a decent teaser what else do you have?" they said "Oh that is all we have".

5 years since they officially began development and all they got was a CGI cinematic.
>>
>>9331930
Pretty sure they've been "working" on it for 10 years or more. Which is the issue AAA games have been struggling with for a while now where the games take too long and cost too much to the point they're going to bomb since they need an absurd profit just to cut even. Even indie games are getting really bad about needing like 5-10 years to make, but at least they have the excuse they're being made by like a team of 5 in someone's basement.
>>
>>9331930
It's real as far as I know. It's what they had made in preparation before cancellation.
Frankly, it's kinda 'meh' to me. But that might be because of the absence of FemTur romance option, and I was kinda banking on that (not that it matters now).
Not fond of writer's pet Liara still remaining around and sticking to us like a pimple.
The whole premise also feels a bit corny, as is the dialogue. I can excuse that a bit since ME has always had some amount of corny dialogue, but all-around, it doesn't really impress me.
>I am willing to bet EA shut them down because they were shown this trailer and when the executives said "Ok that's a decent teaser what else do you have?" they said "Oh that is all we have".
I can believe that, lol.
Nothing about this trailer really makes me go "oh wow, I needed this in my life." The one thing it has going for it is that it's Mass Effect. And Mass Effect is a comfy, beloved (despite its issues) setting for me. But it does nothing else for me based on that trailer.
>>
>>9331930
For me, the trailer doesn't really tell me much other than "Look it's Mass Effect!"
I don't know what the story is, or what the plot is. What's the premise other than looking like a spy intrigue story? Not necessarily the reason why I like Mass Effect desu.
>Oh that's all we have
I would be shocked if after 10 or 8 years of development, they had NOTHING to show for it. Maybe some devs will just dump the concept art and models from development.
>>9331840
>You must be the reverse Gabe Newell
God I hope when I get to my writing I can actually finish a trilogy of books. Lol.
>Affects any planet
I will admit, the trinary star system has a lot of terrestrial planets in it, but because of the three stars, all of them higher levels of solar radiation smacking them. The native aliens have become accustomed to this, but humans had a hard time acclimatizing until they slightly altered the genome to adapt quickly rather than letting evolution figure things out over countless generations.
>>
>>9331691
I feel mass effect is too big of an IP to let it just collect dust. I'm sure EA will hand it off to some other studio were they'll follow one of two paths. One being they make an interesting and fun first game, get given a proper budget to make an amazing second game, then crash in burn in the 3rd game do to studio interference from the people on top who have no idea what they fuck they're talking about. Or option two where it is given a huge budget off the bat, show a really promising demo and/or trailer, then crash in burns on release do to being handed over to a bunch of woke activist who don't even understand the IP anyways and just use it as a soapbox to spout their political and world views at an unwilling fanbase.
>>
>>9331723
>It genuinely boggles my mind how so many sci-fis now adays- movies, shows, games, and even books either neglect or outright REFUSE to add the existence of aliens
movies I can kind of understand if they're low budget. A simple rubber mask is cheap and face paint is cheaper. Having an actually alien looking alien is a lot more expensive and time consuming to make then just "hot chick with green skin". video games and to a lesser extent high budget movies using CGI does make modeling tricky to not only to get it look right but move in a way that doesn't look weird but I still find it more lazy then being held back by limitations like budget and materials.

Though I do wish they'd at least start labeling things similarly as they do in fantasy. Like calling a fantasy world with little magic and only humans running around with an odd monster here and there being low fantasy, any sci-fi setting that's just humans running around being marked as low sci-fi so at a bare minimum you can set your expectations from the start.

>any planets or space stations that rely on trade are fucked too
>>
>>9331932
I know this issue is why Andromeda sucked was because while they said they were working on it for 4ish years they actually had to slap the game together in 9 months because for the first 3 years it was just suits talking about making it then decide what it should and shouldn't be about, if they should even make it in the first place, should it still be an RPG or should they make it a multiplayer online shooter, should it even have an online mode at all, ect. Then on year 4 started telling everyone that the game would be out by the end of the year to the surprise of the dev team who weren't told shit and had to haul ass to just get something that worked out the door before the deadline much less something actually good.
>>
>>9332066
This was also what happened with Anthem: 80% of the development time was spent on fuck all and when EA showed up they had a cinematic trailer and nothing else, no gameplay no story no design document (even the name was still being discussed)
>>
>>9332068
Anthem was fucked because it was made wrong on a fundamental level
>strongest you could be in the whole was naked with just the tutorial gun due to how they balanced item power level
>anthem was a loot shooter like destiny where acquiring loot was pointless because the starter gun was THE strongest weapon
>wearing any armor actually made you weaker
>endgame weapons could random roll to do 0 damage and/or have 0 damage effects
>>
>>9332071
the fact that they wanted a studio famed for making amazing single player story driven games make an online only looter shooter when at this point I don't think they had ever touched anything that had to do with online in anyway.
>>
>>9332079
DA origins and ME1 were the last games actual bioware made while everything after was infected by EA more and more each game. Still the funniest part is the ME3 multiplayer was legit good and could have made a killing as a stand alone/side series ME game.
>>
Is this literally the only dextro girl in the entire trailer?
>>
>>9332082
ME2 I'd say was an improvement over 1 but I'm pretty sure that's just because at that point EA just gave the dev team more money to throw into the game and didn't really start meddling until 3. Same with dead space.

Man, I really hope that EA will give the Mass Effect IP to a studio that cares and then leave them alone to do their own thing. Given that the setting is an entire GALAXY you could easily just make stories happening during the events of the first 3 games to just expand on the setting and show how shit went down for those people who weren't part of the main plot. I mean would it really be so hard to have a game where you're tying to make your own mercenary company only for when you finally make it big the reaper attack happens and now you have to figure out what the fuck is going on and who you want to save and who your forced to leave behind before you hear someone has put together a plan to end the reaper threat.

Or just go the lazy route and make it a bounty hunter game where you just go planet to planet to take down increasingly dangerous bounties only to stumble across some kind of cult and learn that the reapers have already indoctrinated an army to weaken the races before they even show up.

Or hell go with just sticking to one setting/"planet" and have it be that you're just some gang banger on the citadel who while trying to become someone has to deal with the events from all 3 games from the reaper attack of 1, to humans starting to fill the gaps the the previous understaffed C-sec had in 2, to all the events of 3.

Lots of things you could still do with the franchise.

It's why Gears E-Day confused me so much. If they really wanted the game to be about their super special OCs why did they attach them to the main cast like a lead anchor. It's a multi year war that encompassed the whole planet. There are more than just 4 guys who fought the damn thing. You could just focus on other solders and what they did during the war.
>>
>>9332109
>If they really wanted the game to be about their super special OCs why did they attach them to the main cast like a lead anchor.

You know how when trying to give a dog medicine you wrap it in ham or cheese or something to trick them into having it? Or when giving a baby a bitter medicine you mix it with honey or syrup?

Same thing. Parasites attach themselves to something people like and have fond memories and then use it to push their trash onto you. It works as both bait, subversion and a sign of power that they took over your symbols.
>>
>>9332109
Funny thing is this is the exact thing teenager who make shitty fanfiction do. Insert their super special OCs into the story who were always there and have them interact with and/or do better than the real characters. It's parasiting off the popularity and achievements of the well liked and well established characters because they know their dogshit OCs can't stand on their own legs.
>>
>>9332112
yeah except when people quickly find out the game isn't about the characters they care about and instead those characters are actually just cardboard cutouts and the game is really about the super special OCs which cause them to go from being disappointed to outright angry and word of mouth destroys not only the game but the brand as a whole.

Half the reason people hate games like this isn't just because the new characters a worse then the old ones, it's because they use or destroy what came before to try and prop themselves up only to turn around a find the people they were trying to impress have formed an angry mob. Case in point Last of us 2. Could have just made a second group of survivors and have them do their own thing, but no. Had to have them kill the main character of the first game off first and then drag his name through the mud. Then wonder why people hated the new characters so much and drop the game even if the gameplay wasn't all that bad.
>>
>>9332113
I'd argue that fan fiction is probably better because at least the person writing it puts in the effort to learn about the lore before inserting themselves in it. Half the new OCs being forced into these games don't even know what franchise they're in.
>>

My desire for a space waifu also went through the roof now that I'm thinking about them again.
Tali was my girl all the way in the original trilogy, but had Vetra been in there, it would have been a really tough choice to make between her and Tali.
>>
so how long do you guys think it's going to be before someone starts picking at the bones of any of the Bioware IPs?

While I doubt they'll try to make any new games I could see them pulling a dead space remake and just trying to rerelease some of their earlier games but tweaked with modern hardware.

This list sounds like the Simpsons bit, where you get grounded realism mixed with completely off the wall randomness, and you can win things by watching. Seems too good to be true, like the exact kind of mix of everything plus live service shit, so bloated with things that it becomes no thing
>>
>>9333127
I wouldn't say she's the only good thing. Best thing for sure, but there's a couple of other worthy mentions.
Drack and Jaal are likable characters.
Getting rid of the paragon/renegade system lets you craft a more nuanced character.
The shooting and movement were very smooth and enjoyable.
Your teammates moving around the ship and interacting with each other felt way more natural than them waiting in their designated corners for you to come visit.
The Initiative's armors look pretty cool.
Weapon upgrades gave you some really fun toys to play with.
The exploration and side missions were streamlined pretty well, and the driving was the least bad in the entire series.
There's nice scenery and set pieces occasionally.

The number one issue is the poor writing if you ask me. Older ME games had their fair share of rough edges each, but it's easy to look passed them cause you're invested in the story and want to see it through. Andromeda has neither a compelling villain nor allies you feel attached to barring the aforementioned teammates, so it becomes hard to care about fixing the atmosphere on a planet you want to colonize even though shooting the evil robots is fun on its own.
>>
>>9333187
The idea of being an intergalactic space colonist, trying to land your own Noah's Ark and rebuild a society that you can only assume is gone forever, since they were facing Armageddon when you left (not to mention that it was hundreds years ago), and face new challenges as you encounter the current residents of the place you're trying to colonize; all this was such a good foundation, the most interesting premise the franchise could EVER have.
And then they waste all of that potential. You meet one alien race. They just look like humans with weird colors. There are no political ramifications. And the antagonistic force is just more ancient eldritch machinery. They took all these building blocks and just used them to make a square. As soon as I saw a giant robot tentacle in the trailer, I was out. All interest killed in the crib.
>>
SCRIB DOOOOON!
>>
>>9333187
Drack tries too hard to be an old space uncle. But he's alright. And since he's more alien, he also suffers less from the janky animations, which seem to be worst on humans/humanlikes.
Jaal and the Angarans in general do nothing for me. Even more so after they gave him a full nudity romance after one game of his species existing and Vetra gets a cruddy fade out.
I don't really feel like the replacement for the Paragon/Renegade made it more nuanced in practice at all. But that could be because I couldn't bring myself to even care about the main character/Ryder.
Scenery and set pieces feel too normal to be from another galaxy. That's probably some kind of fallacy, but for the most part, nothing in Andromeda feels like it required it to be Andromeda other than the narrative purposes of "a new galaxy". It could've been a new star system or quadrant of the Milky Way that was previously unexplored if not for the "avoiding the Reapers" angle.
The rest is gameplay stuff, which is fine, but people don't play Mass Effect for the gameplay. They play it for the story and characters. That's why people will always regard Mass Effect 1 over Andromeda despite having the jankiest gameplay. Though having good gameplay is in general a positive, I guess.
But frankly, I couldn't think of a reason to want to (re)play Andromeda other than best girl. All its other constituent parts just don't provide much for me.
>>
>>9333341

What you're describing there is the main issue with Andromeda., it's just mediocre at the very best and that's being somewhat generous.
If it had released without bugs and it didn't carry the Mass Effect name, it would have been a game you play once or twice and then forget it existed.
It's not so offensive that you'd drop it straight away, it's just a combination of "meh" elements that are fairly boring.
But when you have something that's supposed to fill the Mass Effect boots, they can't just crank out a 4.5/10 barely mediocre product and hope people buy it in droves because of the Mass Effect name.
If it wasn't for one tall Turian girl, we wouldn't even bring this game up.

>If it wasn't for one tall Turian girl, we wouldn't even bring this game up.
That about summarizes it for me.
Between the plot (how it was spun, at least) being uninteresting, only getting 1 new alien race and it not being a particularly interesting one to me, much of the dialogue being millennial shit ("Kill.. me ... now."), another instance of highly advanced ancient tech but this time it's just 'generic geometric sci-fi shit with glowy lights', and all the jank animations, there's no reason for me to want to return to it other than best girl trapped inside of it.
I would never say this of ME1-3. Even beyond the fact it has no turian girl romance (I'd love to have had one) to draw me in, you can take away a romance or two and it'd still draw you in as a story.
I know it's not universal. Plenty of people aren't even into femturs (outside of this thread, I mean) and they still have something they liked from Andromeda, but it always feels like a fragmented thing. A moment, a single character, a dynamic. But seldom the overarching thing.

>>
slightly off topic but all this talk about mass effect got me thinking about the trope that despite being in the future filled with a lot of advance tech everyone is basically a caveman compared to the tech from a million years ago and how other popular Sci-fi franchises tend to pull the same trick. Halo, 40k, Star Wars.

I don't know but does anyone else find it weird in a setting that supposed to be all about advice tech so beyond us its closer to magic then science but the most advanced stuff was made before any living species was even around and no one has been are will ever be able to match that level let alone surpass it ever again. With Halo everyone is just trying to ape the forerunners, in 40k humanity is trying to figure out how a toaster works without have to shove half a human torso in it to get it to run, Star Wars just seems to be that whoever got into space first made wonders and then every generation after that was just made more and more inferior so dissipate being 10,000s of years in the future a random spaceship buried in the mud could outmatch a whole modern day fleet, and Mass Effect with the reapers somewhat but more Andromeda with the whole super tech that can terraform entire planets in days BS.

I don't mind having an alien race that is more advanced than everyone else but making said race, killing them off, then having every major discovery or advancement happen because someone dug a random hole somewhere and found a thing they made instead of someone just building something a new thing or figuring something out just always struck me as lazy writing.
>>
>>9333642
In ME it at least made some sense. That was what the Reapers were all about. They created tech, left it behind, made the new races dependent on them, harvested them - rinse, repeat. The Leviathan were among the first sapient races in the galaxy to arise and had become the apex species, and the Reapers took over from there. Nothing has ever approached them since, since they were all boxed in by the cycle where they not only followed the path Reapers laid out, but were also snuffed out after the 50,000 year mark. Andromeda, however, has no excuse for this.
Not sure how that works for other sci-fi settings.
>>
Damn it's difficult finding human male x female Turian pics, or even any female Turians to begin with.
Most monsterfuckers are women or gay or gay women. Straight men are failing pretty hard in this sector.

>>9333642

Well it does have a very realistic basis, which is probably why it's subconsciously so popular for us.
It would be a big ass task for even the modern world to build something like the pyramids.
Doable yes, but an absolutely gargantuan undertaking even now.
When Rome fell, their architecture was completely out of reach for humanity for the next +500 years and Roman concrete composition was figured out only very recently.
Sometimes even software running on vastly inferior hardware can easily beat the new stuff in speed and responsiveness and occasionally even features.
So we have very good examples of this right here on earth of old things mogging the shit out of new ones.

And like anon above me said, in Mass Effect it makes a lot of sense, since the cycle is fundamental for the reapers culling people and guiding them.
In 40k humanity did come up with borderline magical tech and so did everyone else, but then things went tits up.
It's not that humanity can't innovate, they actively choose not to because of the dangers.
Star Wars on the other hand makes fuckall sense, because the tech level is all over the place and ranges from old is superior to old is crap depending on the writer's mood.

We can call it lazy writing and yeah it is an easy trope to use so you can come up with a great powerful enemy.
But it's not exactly that big of an asspull as it initially might seem like.

For a femtur, you basically have a model already. There's also models with armor out there.
If it's rigged, it can probably be overlaid over an existing NPC (especially with how modular Bioware wanted it), then you just need voice lines, some context in the dialogue changed, and the name changed, of course.
Or fuck it, wait a little longer and just let it make you a Mass Effect dating sim from scratch.

Hello, here's Chapter 46 of The Howler
>https://archiveofourown.org/works/61103611/chapters/254704366

This one clocks in at 3.6k words. It was definitely the right decision to cut the other one short. We're back on our favorite three bugs as well as the military's attempt to keep on top of things. The howler is making it very difficult for them. I'm definitely going to be changing some names when I do a final edit on this. After seeing Zharr and Zyrrs' name appear in the same chapter for the first time, I knew it must be done. Zharr was originally a bit of a play on Tsar, but I might make it Sharr or something. I might also rename Nithry to Kithry to avoid conflict with Nestiri. It's close enough that I can accept it even after getting attached to their names.

Also, thanks to Steve for the cute Fyrix art

> "Warlust" smell reveal
[oohs, ahhs, and other excited ape noises from anon]

This would make an excellent shocking revelation for the audience that is entirely justified due to being seen repeatedly before. Even the entomologists in the audience would be surprised because they might dismiss their own expectations; "they're aliens, surely these earth-species concepts won't directly apply"

and then, they do apply.
*hard*
>>
>>9333864
>>9334130
Also, the art is cute enough for me to imagine this scenario:

The Human asks the Fyrix "Hey, if that drink is a sweet one, can i get a taste through that straw?"
> The Fyrix turns their head slightly then withdraws their proboscis from the drink, and asks the Human "What's a 'straw'? What's its used for?"
The increasing appearance of awareness of what the Human has just asked grows on their facial muscles and in their eyes. The Human stutters out "Uuh, it's a- a- tube for drawing liquids through l-like a... synthetic proboscis, i guess." and ends the statement with a hesitant chuckle and a smile that quickly evaporates to a neutral emotionless dread.
> Though the Human can't smell it, the Fyrix emits amusement and playfulness, and asks "Still want me to share?" Then the Fyrix pokes their not-quite-a-tongue out of their mouth and with a wiggle of their head, it gives a delayed wave hello to the human like a dead worm wriggling in a birds mouth.
The human turns away, covering their mouth and looking sick at the idea they had ignorantly setup for themselves.

the whole relay shit could be fixed, citadel is one giant relay that could act as both blueprint and temporary teleportation method for stranded species (get dextros out first so they don't starve)
I always pictured Salarians becoming the pariah state since they can withdraw from the War, unbound by treaties they can pursue any research they want openly
Krogan rejoining galactic council, Geth and Quarian forming their own coalition since people are still hostile towards synthetics, Virtual Alien race they mentioned in the codex might also join
Krogan are a wild card, it is enough to have one generation of retards to run their culture into the ground, fragmented states perhaps
Leviathans are still present so they could become a threat
Batarians might go extinct since they were the first to get hit by Reapers
Raloi would emerge as the newcomer Race
Volus might become more self reliant and no longer have dependence on Turians
Asari might get some flak for hoarding prothean knowledge without revealing it but otherwise they will become more militant, maybe even mandatory military service just like Turians
Terminus systems might expand in the chaos
N7 program will remain multi species, although there will be more schools in general
I doubt Turians would change much other than perhaps become more open towards multi species projects like Normandy construction and N7 training
Drell might start their own colonies

So when EA eventually gives the rights to Mass Effect to another studio and tells them to make a game using the IP you guys think it would be an original game or just a remake like they did with dead space?
>>
>>9336342
Little point in a remake unless they go balls to the wall and really expand the game. I would think a side game works best.

Maybe something setup during the Skylian Blitz where you enact Total Batarian Death. Maybe you could get a straight FPS set during the Morning War of the Quarians vs. Geth (though that would require a canon look for quarians which is GUARANTEED to cause shitshows). Maybe even a game set during the Krogan Rebelions, or if they want to be really ambitions a game set during the Prothean cycle where the goal is to plant the Beacons and make sure Javik gets in his cryo pod.

There is a lot of potential in the IP if only you have a dedicated studio with people who care and are enthusiastic. The problem is that:

1= Executives want every project to be some sort of AAA mega success of 250 million copies sold 2 billion dollar profit and so keep pushing for massive increases in scale and scope

2= Industry parasites such as HR, diversity consultants, general dysgenic freaks and political activists infiltrate studios and turn it from game making into activism. Suddenly half of your budget is being spent on SNCA and twitter posting to own chuds and people who work one hour a week that exist for diversity quotas.
