Those distinctions are inherent of the japanese market as shonen/seinen, shoujo/josei and then BL and yuri, then you have further sub categories like TL and others. The consumer only knows magazines, manga websites and artists they follow, you can't expect the consumer who mostly buy josei magazines, josei labels and websites and josei artists, to get suddenly interest in yuri works published beyond his scope.

Shonen, Seinen, Shoujo and Josei are just publishing words for demographics, they were never meant to describe genres, famously shonen jump recused Shingeki no Kyojin because they said it wasn't shonen enough, then it turned to be one of the best selling shonen ever and one of the most realistic portrays of power fantasies retards in japanese fiction.

You just have to communicate exactly what you are saying, if your argument is that yuri needs to change to appeal to other people of course people will argue against it.
