Shueisha and Toei have the rights over Dragon Ball. Toriyama was a genius but he didn't know how to negotiate and Dragon Ball was producing so much money that even a small fraction of the profit was more than enough for what he needed to raise a family

It’s a Shinto thing from the deep, deep past, likely even the Paleolithic indigenous culture that left behind mound tombs and a few other things before the Japanese culture recognized today came over from the mainland.
In any case, the Traditional way does revolve around rebuilding wooden structures entirely anew rather than preserving them indefinitely. Older shrines actually had paired locations that were used cyclically with a new building put on one spot while an older building was left to be reclaimed by nature, cleared, and built anew at the other site.

Japan does not like the idea of moving into an older house. They have some superstition similar to what we would call a haunting, but it's not really a haunting. It's more that the house just isn't their own and can never be theirs.

So when someone buys a house, they either remodel it fully or demolish and rebuild. Surprisingly this keeps the cost of houses pretty low because there isn't a lot of demand for keeping an old house.
    >>
wooden construction is legally worthless on paper after 30 years
that doesnt mean jap arent just living in these houses or demilitioing them one day after 30 years

    >>
    >>291950664
Depends on the land. Keeping houses from appreciating keeps something from happening like some hobo shack in California costing ~2M, because people can't pawn that off as appropriate housing for the neighborhood.
Has the double effect of keeping every building up to code.

I think it’s probably more likely just to ensure that you’re always building something wooden to spec from scratch instead of being lazy about patching and reinforcing until it becomes a hazard. Especially the crazy bastards living in the north who had to invent structures that wouldn’t collapse with heavy snowfall.

    >>291950621
Those larger mounds and the boom of building them coincide with the migration from the mainland that also brought over Chinese script and all the other influences. The “historical Japan” and the state that exists today is essentially a Chinese colony that took over the islands, that’s why archaeology on this period in particular is so toxic.

Yeah but that still little money compared to what Dragon Ball produces and that's not taking in consideration Toriyama's family is currently on a legal battle for copyrights. That's why Kishimoto lives as upper-middle class despite all the money Naruto produces

What is it with Japan and their absolute hatred for dragon ball? It’s mistreated by Bandai, outright sabotaged by Shueisha, and Toei is very blatantly giving one piece “favorite child” treatment. I bet they’d never do this to Oda.

He lied and said that DBS Beerus was the most Toriyama-accurate we could get, but you can take one look at it, and its lack (and removal) of gags, and the excessive VFX, and what they turned Beerus into and see that Akio made this for the western fanbase, more specifically, the tiktok edit, JJK brained strain of fans that want dragon ball to be a 24/7 aura farm and go into psychosis anytime they see goku being goofy

I feel like a lot of people here are hoarders or on their way to being hoarders.
This wasn't a historic landmark. It isn't even the place where Toriyama originally drew manga, it was literally just a studio, a building where people clocked in to work all day and then clocked out at the end of the day, and at this point it had largely just been Toriyama's second home. It's possible that legal deals and matters involving art and manga didn't even occur there, and it's getting torn down because the guy is fucking dead. Your options from here are
    >A vacant lot nobody uses
As grand a waste of space that is.
    >Someone else buys it
Which would just be an excuse for someone to buy a plot of land in Japan for a billion dollars or something absurd and fetishize the remnants of Toriyama's life like he's a Christened Saint.
    >It's turned into a historic landmark

    > only about 10.4% of deceased estates end up owing inheritance tax.
    > For the small percentage of households that do pay, the average tax per taxable estate is around ¥19.46 million
If the land is in some distant area or has limited housing value I can see why anyone would just sell it off.

Rebuilding structures periodically makes sure construction skills are never lost to the next generation. This is a practical application of tradition

A few factors. First, most nuclear plants are at least somewhat removed from surrounding population centers. Second, they don't shit where the eat nearly as much as fossil fuel plants. Third, it was the Cold War and the Japanese government could just say "this plant is for national security so get bent". Fourth, Japanese power plants have an excellent safety record. They have their share of smaller incidents here and there but I'm pretty certain that since the number of elevens who have developed ANY sort of adverse health effect from their entire nuclear power industry is less than 100 and the number of deaths is around a dozen at most.

Also worth noting is that the lethality of radiation in general is logarithmic which means that for nuclear power in particular you need to have a Soviet-tier fucky wucky for the wider public to be at even a nominal risk. There are plenty of lethal nuclear incidents where someone at ground zero of the incident died an agonizing death from ARS while other people 10 yards away experienced consequences ranging from an unexpected suntan to absolutely nothing.
