out of everyone, why nishi?she could've gotten hitched up with one of those street kids, and it would've been a better option
>>291948568Considering her options as a slum girl, it made sense. It just sucks that even at their wedding she was lusting for the alpha dog.

Joe's real love interest.
>>291948380yes
>>291948380pure resignation, the thing is you don't know exactly to what.
>>291948380is this fucking retard serious?
Joe is a GOAT anime character but I feel like his complete lack of interest in sex dehumanized him a bit.
>>291953670Better than ippo constantly pussyfooting.
>>291953724We'd love to see them get together at this point, but romantic subplots tend to lose steam once the guy officially gets the girl. Abstinence is actually a part of boxing life, especially in the old school spartan like gyms of Japan. But I think not even addressing the challenges of managing lust is similar to leaving out the struggles with weight management or other distractions.
>>291948568Because Nishi proved to be a honest and hardworking person. She didn't exactly marry for love but nobody in those slums really could, you take what you can get.I see Joe, Nishi, Noriko and Yoko all as parallels to each other in terms of where they start from and where they end. Joe and Nishi start from rock-bottom with no prospects of a normal life. Noriko and Yoko are both better-adjusted (to vastly varying degrees of course) and represent an out Joe could take to have a normal life. Joe rejects Noriko and it's Nishi who takes that out in his place. Noriko once listens to Joe's life philosophy (you know the conversation) but can't share in it and chooses to stay on her path so she has to let go of him. Yoko on the other hand resolves to stay by Joe's side to the very end and he accepts her as a result with the passing of his gloves. Even though she came from a cushy rich girl background she accepts his tough, self-destructing worldview even though it doesn't end in her own happiness.
Joe was going for the rich girl Rikiishi left.
>>291948380sex
>>291953864Yeah he was going for her.
>>291953670That would have thrown a wrench into the dichotomy between settling for a happy, stable life that leaves you unfulfilled which is represented by his relationship to Noriko and pursuing your real goals and passions at the cost of destroying yourself which is tied to Joes boxing career. Joe likes her but if he really loved her that wouldnt make boxing look like the only choice for him which the story needs to work.
