>>291926917K-On clears any Toaru Majutsu no Index garbage
>>291925927>>291926917K-On did it better. The subtle acting from Mio was so much more impactful. The little mannerisms and hand over her mouth in politeness by the elegant Mugi, the stillness of the others in their shock, it's a master class in characterization and pacing. Anyone could look at that scene without knowing anything else about those characters and the situation and appreciate it at a far deeper level. Then there's the layers of complexity in the interactions between the characters and the events leading up to that scene. It goes into the specific dynamics between Ritsu and Mio, Yui and Nodoka, Yui and Azusa, and then Mugi's need from the very start of the series where she saw the interaction between Ritsu and Mio as they tried to recruit her. It was a scene built up not only through the course of the episode, but the course of the entire series. It's not some throwaway gag, or a silly climax to a single-episode storyline. It's a powerful, multi-headed emotional conflict that dives deeply into the childhoods of the characters involved, the loneliness of Mugi and the shyness of Mio, and all layered in the inherent nostalgia of the golden-hour-lit look into the lives and social expectations of high school girls in Japan. The transgression must be understood within that context, it can't not be. These are complex hierarchies at work, and gets down into the core of what it is to be an adolescent struggling day-to-day with issues that seem far more important than they ultimately are.
