So is this just a huge meta joke? It feels like the collective frustrations of people who want to make something cool but can't. That ultra bland protags are necessary now but they suck and nobody likes them. That your super cool protag is a has-been and a washed up loser, but he's way better than the mc in every way. That stories have to have color coded cute girls to get anyone's attention. It's like a blander medaka box except I have no expectations of a kumagawa coming to save the story.

So hopefully them being foils improves things going forward.

It's weird. The show is a trainwreck, but there is some comedy gold in there. That bit in the classroom and the school clubs segment had me laughing this episode, as much as the toilet break-up and MC's attempt to talk to the girl with more and more people hiding behind the bush. I like it, but feels strange to do so.
