The start of the best romance story never told.
>>
>>291913411
No, they can't, this manga is extremely unrealistic when it comes to crimes and their consequence (and lack of police involvement).
DESU, it's pretty badly written and veeery dumb all in all
>>

In the art room..
>>
>>291914198
Yeah. I like trashy stuff like this so I'll keep reading, but the whole "everyone is a psycho or quickly turned into one" and "adults are all incompetent" thing is pretty silly.
>>
>>291914393
That's why I honestly think we're not supposed to take this story seriously.
It's literally a farce

>>
>>291914484
I don't think farce is the right word. Maybe campy? Or edgelord
>>
>>291920622
It's an involuntary farce, because the situation are so absurd, tragedy is so omnipresent and everyone is so fucked up that it becomes comedic and laughable, to me at least.
That's probably not the author's intention though, but he doesn't seem to be very good at building the world, its characters or realistic scenarios, he just goes overboard every time
>>
>>291920673
bomp
>>
>>291920673
Partly, but partly it's also poor imagination regarding the depths of human depravity and misery. As is told about some real events being too improbable to be ever written as fiction, because people would complain that such a thing is implausible to the point of absurdity.
>>
>>291924184
Oh I'm well aware of how depraved and monstrous humans can be.
My argument is that if all people are like that, as it seems in this manga, then that monstruosity becomes normal and expected, and thus boring and comedic.
When the author introduces a new character or story line, now I think "I wonder how fucked up the author will make this" and then I laugh when it actually turns out as fucked up as I thought
>>
>>291924672
They aren't. Some of the characters are unfortunate but quite sane (Shouko (RIP), Shio and her brother), others are mad in an entirely ordinary way (both of Shio's parents), bad but normal (the park miscreants (RIP)), and many others are entirely normal people who don't stick their noses where they don't belong (Satou's classmates, most of her coworkers, cosplay cafe boss, the policewoman). Not to forget the artist, who was mad but not in an unrealistic way (inb4 that's stupid, what do you want? Guy kills millions of jews, because he couldn't do the art he wanted and they teach whole history classes about him, but when a guy tries to kill one single kid for the same reason it's suddenly "dumb" and "laughably absurd"?)
>>
>>291925312
All the main characters are still fucked up, side characters are almost non-existant and they don't play a significant role anyway.
Shio isn't sane (no one sane would remain with Satou), her brother isn't sane (obsessed with Shio). Shouko was the sanest individual but also the dumbest, her death was one of the dumbest death I've ever seen, I'm honest.
Those dudes from the park are far from "normal".
At least where I live, "normal" people don't beat homeless kids in parks.
The police is non existant, Shouko's friends and family are still nowhere to be seen after her death, same thing for the artist, obviously also mad as you said as well.
>>
>>291925460
>Those dudes from the park are far from "normal".
>At least where I live, "normal" people don't beat homeless kids in parks.
This exemplifies your whole complaint. You live a sheltered life and then complain that people being mean is absurd to the point of being funny.
>>
>>291925536
Sheltered?
You don't know me.
Normal people I know don't beat kids in parks, I wouldn't. Would you?
Those who do are called criminals where I live, not "normal" people.
Also, remember we're reading about one of the most "sheltered" people in the world.
And yes, I absolutely stand by what I said: when every single main or important character in a manga has some sort of mental illness, when every situtation is tragical for the sake of tragedy and misery porn, then it becomes farcical, repetitive and comedic, rather than tragic or sad.

>Besides that, it's just for social status and tax reasons.
There are literally millions of happy marriages out there that have their basis in love.

Maybe you'll find someone someday.
>>
>>291939695
If there are milions of happy marriages (very doubtful in this day and age, maybe elderly couples, who got married in a better world), there are billions of divorces.
I personally know dozens if not hundreds of married individuals, only 1 or 2 (ONE or TWO) have not been divorced at least once!
And also, I know no young people in their 30s or 20s who wants or plans to get married.
Suffice to say that the institution of marriage is almost over here

It's more likely these days than in the past. Until ~200 years ago marriages were arranged and love wasn't considered at all, and until even just ~70 years ago it was still overwhelmingly for survival or social pressure. Women weren't allowed to be self-sufficient so men were forced to provide for them, meaning young people got married to the first person that'd take them and were stuck together for the rest of their lives. You only had enduring love if you were lucky; usually, you just got resentment, infidelity, and more than likely abuse.
In the modern day, fewer people get married and those who do are more likely to get divorced, but that's a consequence of being able to freely choose who you marry. It's not a bad thing. It just means that the marriages that endure are between people who sincerely love one another.
Obviously with the internet fucking everything up and the economy going south, things are tipping too far in the opposite direction, but it's still far better off than it was when marriage was just about buying a slave that hates your guts. At least nowadays you don't have to watch your back or risk a surprise serving of picrel.
>>
>>291927121
Thank you OP
I wish I could find someone to marry

I don't recall. I know I was a real pain in middle school, though. Thanks again, OP. I hope Asahi's mom gets a happy ending out of this manga, at least, and gets to reunite with her kids!
>>
>parents change their mind and want to reconnect with their estranged daughter
>dies
Are you sure this isn't a comedy?
>>
>>291945725
I think you're generalizing too much.
Elder couple who got married in 1920s are among the happiest couples, so I think you're wrong.
It is a fact that marriages have been decreasing as well as long-lasting relationships, so I would argue things have not been improving despite (or because of) all this new freedom.
I don't really care either way, but saying marriage is good or love is good is as biased as saying it's bad. It depends. What I do know is that the thing men have to worry about, today, is divorce.
>You only had enduring love if you were lucky;
Just the same as today

>>

>Did you cause trouble growing up as a kid?
A lot, especially at school, I'm a rebel at heart so if teachers told me to do something, I would do the exact opposite just to challenge their "authority", which I believed (and still believe) wasn't earned but given to them by society. As a consequence, I was a very good kid with those teachers and professors who actually earned my respect through their efforts, and a little shit with everyone else.
Still a "problem" I'm dealing with.

This manga is a lot more than that, it's actually trying to convey something substantive (even if it may be hard to put into words).
If you want real misery porn, look up the author of that Haruhi slap doujin. That guy is properly mentally ill - and I mean that literally. The only thing his work conveyed is that the author belongs in a mental institution.

A page from it where Kyon slaps Haruhi used to be posted pretty frequently here as a meme.
But don't expect anything erotic, it's genuinely unhinged. Everyone is just miserable and evil or indifferent, preferably both at the same time in an apathetic kind of way. Except Mikuru, who is pathetic. It's hard to convey properly.
