I don't know if the final volume reveals Hayakawa completely (haven't read it) or if the interpretation is even intended, but it reads to me like she's not actually the person, just a personified phenomena. She reacts with a glare to his staring because Kishida thinks that's what she'd do. All her helping is actually just his own psychic power doing the legwork or giving him a hunch, wrapped up in the container of Hayakawa-san acting it out because Kishida is traumatized by her loss and has been forever. This is also why she's otherwise completely neutral and expressionless.I don't know whether she isa) actually there, it's Hayakawa-san and nothing elseb) not there at all, it's Kishida deluding himselfc) partially there in some wayI'm probably massively overthinking the concept because I doubt the author ever really intended to answer the question + it being axed (presumably) means she might have had to compromise on any given explanation anyway.
