If you're the type to be really into battle shonen, I'm not sure you'd like Ichi, it's a fantasy that keeps it light and cute despite being built on a battle shonen scaffold, which makes it a quite unique taste of shonen (if you ever read Iruma, Ichi is a more shonen declension of that).SD has great action and some cool characters but apparently it lacks strong enough writing to carry interest throughout the entire run (I dropped it early on so I wouldn't know).If I have to be honest, I'd probably try something from another magazine. What do you even like and what did you read? There's plenty of finished series that are amazing.

It's unapologetically Murata turned up to 11, with a mish mash of cool shit that might not be that deep but for what it is it's plenty fun and it has good discussion around it. If you're familiar with stuff like Record of Ragnarok (tournament between hax gods and men) imagine that but it's a battle royale between worlds, each with their own heroes, villains, power system and a gimmick theme (aliens, fantasy, dark fantasy, kaijus and so on).If you're looking for something finished that doesn't get discussion I could give some recommendations outside of jump.
I don't buy into any conspiracy theories about Oda having direct influence over Jump, but there's one undeniable fact. As long as One Piece is around, WSJ feels safe. They can always count on it no matter how badly they screw up, and that's why they've been making a lot of really stupid decisions.

The first one is the most famous one and follows a kid falling in love with rock music and entering a band with a group of unlikely members. This one has much less twists and turns than BECK (which is a bit turbulent, as all rock n roll stories should be) but it's still a gripping story of a kid with a lot of passion dedicating himself fully to it.Going off more niche and into classical music I recommend Nodame Cantabile, if you read josei, and one of my all time favorite series, The Concours which is surprisingly from a korean author (still in manga form).Nodame is a story about a young ikemen music prodigy, born in a prestigious family and groomed to enter the classical music scene crossing paths with the titular Nodame, a girl failure from a poor family with a weird personality but incredible talent for playing piano.The Concours is a story of a high schooler who loves the violin but wants to keep it strictly a hobby, that is until circumstances throw him into the world of professional music. This is a hidden gem, great art and top tier writing, with plenty of likable characters.

The art is to die for and the cast is very lovable.Irie has another great series called Go with the Clouds, North-by-Northwest which is unfinished but its getting an anime next year, which by the trailer looks great. This second series has a different tone but still mixes the mundane (this time a refreshing mix of life in Japan and life in Iceland) with supernatural elements, this time with an older, male MC.

The overall page composition should also be kept in mind and synergy with said reading flow, think of the whole page as its own, holistic piece of art. A page cluttered with many small panels and speech bubbles all over the place is not very aesthetic.
