The parallelisms between Sagiri and Yui as influences on Gabimaru are particularly consistent, to the point the anime's first OP makes it blatantly visual, but it doesn't change that by having Gabimaru and Sagiri build a relationship that includes everything from trust to sexual tension throughout the course of the story, most readers are going to find Gabimaru's relationship with the wife that's hardly physically present in the manga wanting by comparison. Either make it so Yui has more of a presence in the story, or don't write Sagiri as Gabimaru's work wife. Or better yet, just have Sagiri become his second wife. It's not like Japan was cucked by western influence by then, polygami was perfectly legal.
>>291867205The thing is that Yui has no ways to be there with Gabimaru during the shinsenkyou suicide mission (unless some bullshit is pulled, i’ve been S1 watcher only so far).She is a regular girl despite her father being the shinobi chief, so even just the random monsters mooks would be a deadly encounter for her unless she speedrun Ten’s training in a very bullshit way (most of the cast on the island has been using Ten in a passive form for most of their life, for this reason they are so proficient in learning it once they get a teacher).So for this and to push further the themes and gabimaru’s humanity , against him losing his memories and his wife (aka his humanity) , he needs a relationship as strong as the one with Yui to keep him hooked into his vanishing Human side that is slowly getting corrupted.For this reason the relationship with Sagiri is written this way, he needs an external figure strong enough to keep surviving and stay at his side in person, someone that keeps his memories and humanity strong .Since his wife has no ways to do that without getting killed 0.5 seconds after stepping a foot in the shinsenkyou, Sagiri has this important role narratively alongside pushing the themes of sexual attractions and duality.Its also quite well executed , since Sagiri being so emotionally close to Yui (and being a woman) is what stopped him from going full Garan (Sekiro’s shura ending) at the start of the mission right after the fight with Bootleg Benkei.Any other executor would’ve been killed by him going full scorched earth like a rabid dog (and him probably getting killed by the giants or the first Tensen he meets since he would not have any help by Mei or getting taught the fondamentals of Ten).So the relationship with Sagiri MUST be that complicated and uncomfortable despite him being faithful to his wife.
