ITT: We take a non-extreme sport and change it to make it extreme. Marathon but you can sabotage your opponents any way you want. Weapons allowed. Basically the Road Rash game but on foot. Dodgeball with bocce. Polo but with rodeo horses. Water polo but the water is slightly acidic so your skin and eyes start to burn after a while and you can only get out (rotating with other team members) once you score. Any motor sport but without brakes. Soccer with bowling balls. Squash but the room is so narrow and you can get hit by the other player's racket. Basketball but the court is oiled.

A thread to discuss Japanese weapon based martial arts and our own martial journey with like minded people, discussion of other Asian systems is welcomed too. >what is kendo? Kendo is a modern Japanese budō that uses shinai (bamboo sword) and armor for combat, in its modern purpose is a way to strengthen body and spirit and develop character. >is kendo a martial art? Kinda >what do I need to start kendo? A shirt and sweat pants your club will likely borrow you the rest when you start >what is iaido? Is a Japanese martial art, influenced by zen practices based on different kata (drills) and subdivided in different schools with solo drills based on drawing the sword from the scabbard to defend from an imaginary opponent. >what is kenjutsu? Is a old form of Japanese budō based on the use of various weapons as they were used back in the day by the samurai, depending on ryūha you can have various way of teaching, weapons, presence or lack of sparring and time/place of origin. >what do I need to start kenjutsu/iaido? Sweat pants and a shirt again, depending on club ryūha you may be required to buy additional equipment but at the very start you don’t need anything. First episode is out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCsR-zxwN1Y >What is the Ultimate Self-Defense Championship? A bit over a year ago, former Aikidoka YouTuber Rokas Leo set up a tournament with a self-defense "academy" to have himself and five other martial arts YouTubers compete to see who is best at self-defense. It was a hilarious shitshow that nearly crippled one of the contestants, Ramsey Dewey who would later get into an internet spat with the guy behind the academy (Jeff Phillips) and described the entire event as "piss poor" due to poor management, an incoherent and arbitrary scoring system, running on a very limited schedule, and timing events terribly (like having a zombie apocalypse-themed event that didn't influence score in the middle of the entire thing instead of at the end or something) and doing comically dangerous shit like making people fight on a narrow bridge a good 30ft above the ground. Somehow, he kickstarted a second one, which features even less martial arts YouTubers.

I'm a lightweight, (1.78m, 60kg), i've been going to judo for some months now, I'm liking it a lot, but, is it comparable/better to wrestling? Especially for a guy my size, I always thought wrestling would be useless as from what I know, it uses a lot of raw strength, while judo (though it still uses strength) is better suited for taking down heavier/stronger people. Is this right? Should I try doing some wrestling? I find judo very good but also sometimes limited by the sport

40+ anons. What martial arts do you train? When did you start? Do you train/lift outside of martial arts? I'm looking to get back into judo/boxing but i'm an old fat piece of shit right now. Any suggestions for training smart as an old guy?
For anyone who has done a martial art Is it normal to have mixed emotions about it? None of the stuff I've tried (Boxing, Judo, Wrestling, BJJ) Has made me instantly think "omg I love this. This is it. I'm doing this for life" It's usually a combination of "well that was really difficult and tiring, is this worth it, this is going to be difficult but I'll be a better person mentally and physically, I guess.. just stick with it?" Or were you instantly hooked

why don't more people skate with bigger wheels? I'm talking 60mm and above. it feels so much better to skate when you're not trying to balance precariously on little tiny baby wheels, where even a speck of dust will send you flying.
what martial art should i do after taekwondo? i'm currently abt to be a black belt in ITF taekwondo and i noticed that it kinda sucks due to the lack of handwork. ive been thinking of exploring either judo (since im pretty big) or eskrima (for grappling techniques and knifeplay). in general im looking for a style that is more hands-focused to go with the footwork of taekwondo
why is everyone at the park skating such tiny decks (under 8)? are they trying to make me feel like a fat fuck? 8.5 is standard, right?
Most martial arts technique is useless in MMA or no rules fighting. Most wrestling grips, judo, bjj techniques go out the window It becomes 99% of the time the most simple boxing/kickboxing and the simplest takedowns and submissions

What's up /xs/bros. I hope you've all been having a rad spring so far. I'm here to catch everyone up with how our divegrass team has been coming along. This past Autumn Cup was my first cup as manager. It was a very fun and retarded first run, but it was also a trainwreck in terms of results, as we lost the 3 games we had. Next weekend our team plays in the Spring Cup qualifiers. I swore to do much better this Spring Cup, so I've been working a lot on the tactics side. We've had a lot of help for our aesthetics from people outside of the team. We made a lot of changes, and a lot more changes are on the way. I know exactly what our stadium and ball will look like, but I was not able to make the time to make them. Those will be my priorities for the next cup. The schedule for the Spring Cup qualifiers next weekend is the following April 10 - vs /co/ April 11 - vs /vst/ April 12 - vs /lit/ Please come support our team. I will do my best to get us out of these qualifiers and get into the proper Cup. I'd also like to remind everyone that we have a >dicksword for our team, and you're welcome to join. ~~Tokyo Climbing Edition~~ >Where do I start? People typically start in the gym and branch off outdoors and find their niche, be it bouldering, trad, sport or a mixture of the above. Some never leave the gym at all. Ultimately it doesn't matter - just get started and enjoy yourself. >How fit do I have to be to start? Do I have to be able to do x amount of pull-ups? Being light, strong and flexible helps at the higher levels but climbing is open to almost anyone and is fairly intuitive to most. Even if your body is feeble and weak now, you will develop strength over time by virtue of just climbing. Climbing is a holistic sport and success often hinges upon many factors, not just strength and power, but having these qualities definitely helps when you breach into the higher grades. >What shoes do I buy? If you're starting out in the gym, don't worry too much: get some snug shoes without dead space that don't cause you lasting pain. Some people (such as the famed shoe designer Heinz Mariacher) recommend wearing soft shoes when you're starting out -- this makes sense since your footwork will probably suck and the increased feedback will pay dividends over time. You really don't need fancy expensive shoes when you're starting out, but certain shoe properties help send harder problems (e.g. stiff shoes for standing on tiny granite edges or soft shoes for sandstone/gritstone smears). Here are some useful resources for sizing: >https://sizesquirrel.com/ >https://rockrun.com/blogs/the-flash-rock-run-blog/rock-climbing-shoe-sizing-guide >Do I need Magdust/Rugne Gear? No, most chalk you find will be good. Mammut is older, cheaper, and as reliable as they come. >Do I need to start hangboarding? Hangboarding is a tool used to improve climbing, but you likely won't *need* it until you've climbed for 2-3 years. Even that's generous. Just climb. Old Thread: >>243692
After 2+ years of back and forth with like 5 different doctors, I was finally able to convince one last month to send me for an MRI with contrast which show my wrist is completely fucked. There’s a lot wrong, but the biggest things are that I have a full thickness tear of my scapholunate (the surgeon literally said that it’s “gone”) and a partial tear in my TFCC. I need total reconstruction of the scapholunate and the jury is still out for how significant the tear in the TFCC is which will determine the surgical procedure they use for it. I know my wrist is never going to be the same, but has anyone else dealt with something like this before? I’d love to hear others’ experiences. Thanks!

I think the most legendary ones were Tyson (he would need to get out of prison) and Karelin but it's rather obvious that Tyson would lose due to lack of grappling skills. Karelin would be more serious threat to the Gracies because he would toss them around easily but Idk if he would be able to actually end the fight.
Started Judo about a month ago and I've been really struggling desu, more so than I feel I should. I'm not out of shape either, I have some of the best cardio in the whole class. It's just that the level of athleticism required for judo is much higher than I anticipated, and I feel I seriously lack the coordination and flexibility to properly execute many of the throws (I've yet to get one legitimately clean throw yet desu). Would BJJ be better for a guy like me? I've only done ne waza like twice but the times I have done it I felt it came much more naturally to me than the other aspects of judo.
Do you guys make notes and diagrams for your martial arts and have reference books? I have been thinking about getting the Kodokan book since I won't be doing judo for the foreseeable future and also making notes for my karate and judo.

Currently shopping for a dirt bike and have around 6k saved, 5'10 165 pounds, live in Arizona so I can find plenty of trails. Only riding experience I have is learning on a KX100 used for enduro and general trail fuckery and bought a crf250r before it blew up. Should have replaced the oil control rings as my buddy told me but live and learn. Both bikes are across the country so those are off the table. I can also fabricate custom parts such as racks, bash plates, crash guards so if any mods need to be made then so be it. I have learned clutch control and can hit small jumps but haven't learned to pop wheelies, whips, or any crazy shit. I can manage a 250 just fine but I am rusty as I haven't ridden in almost 2 years. I will mainly do trail riding with some occasional high speed riding. Here are my options: >Buddy who lives in SoCal 5 hours away is selling a 2018 FX350 with low engine hours for $5k since he can't ride anymore after a crash. My main concern is the rebuild costs and intervals. >Go on facebook marketplace and find a 250 in good shape with some money left over for mods, repairs and tools >buy a new klx230r from a dealership but risk getting raped with taxes and fees tacked on What do you guys think?

i've been thinking about how martial arts have been losing their essence (mainly self-defense) due to monetization and shitty federations. i mean what the fuck is up with charging money for exams and belts?? i mean of course they are gonna give you the fucking belt if you pay for it, so what's the point of the system? back then, there were just black and white belts, nothing else and no charging for becoming a black belt, just raw technique and knowledge, and actual use of the art (self-defense as well). i say this as an actual practicioner of taekwondo itf and i admit it has the stupidiest ferderation system ever (there are like 8 different branches, each claiming that they teach the "original taekwondo" while not teaching throws, takedowns or submissions) as well as the dumb fucking pay-for-your-exam-and-belt shit, as if the monthly fee didn't exist. it's ridiculous and sad, and i realized this now since i've been doing boxing and judo and holy shit it's a whole different world; boxing is awesome and has no charges besides the suscription and equipment, the rest is just training and sparring; same with judo except there are exams but they are like once a year for every student, unlike other arts where there is an exam every three months for everyone. so i wanted to ask, what do you think? are martial arts getting worse due to greed? are there any exceptions (like boxing or judo in my experience)? personally, i'll keep doing taekwondo 'till the red belt, because i like it a lot and it was my first martial art, but i'm not gonna pay like 200 dollars for a black piece of cloth on ny waist.

So I’ve always had this question: if a fighter in, a physical sport like karate or MMA or something like that would purposely hurt their opponents during a fight or like a sparring match, and if so, how and why would you do it, and would you try to be discrete about it or just do it? Or maybe you just did it once for a specific reason or targeted someone. Whatever the case may be, I’d love to hear your takes on this if y’all have done it or something similar.
If punches below the belt, more specifically punches to the thigh, knee and calf were allowed in Boxing, would they affect the meta at all? Some stances are so wide and heavy that I think a good hook to the side of the knee could fuck someone up. Punching the thigh would only work if done repeatedly, I think. Now calf punches sound absurd lol, but I think in some fights were guys have wildly different frames I think it could be used.

I box. Today is light sparring day. Instructor tells us to go at max speed but 10% power. I have no idea what I am supposed to do during this sparring. If I go at max speed, my punches will have power, especially if they land. I'm a 120kg bodybuilder fuck, so if I catch someone with a light but fast hook, they WILL feel it. Doubly so if they walk into it. It's even worse because we're supposed to do 3 rounds, then change partners, so what's fast/hard changes. Help me out here.

Why do they say you need training for Scuba Diving? Just put the breathing tube in your mouth and turn on the gas. Done
Hey fellas, so yeah I’m 32, I’ve been training MMA for almost 3 years, usually 5 days a week, and it’s become a pretty central part of my life. I’m supposed to compete for the first time in November. A week ago I injured my foot during sparring. It’s the first serious injury I’ve had, and an X-ray showed a small fracture in my 3rd metatarsal. Luckily it seems stable, and the pain is getting better every day. I can walk for 10-15 minutes, but I’m still sidelined for a few weeks. What makes it especially frustrating is that I feel like I had finally reached a point where I was becoming one of the more competitive and technical guys at my gym. I started out pretty terrible, so seeing that progress over almost 3 years has meant a lot to me I’m not just worried about losing my fitness, but also losing some of that momentum and technique I worked so hard to build. I’m going to use the downtime to focus on my career in video production, but I’m struggling more mentally with being unable to train than I expected. For those of you who’ve had to take time off MMA/BJJ/boxing because of an injury, how did you deal with it mentally, and what did you do to maintain your conditioning and skills without making the injury worse? I can't deny a part of me just says "fuck it just wait another week and train like this" but I’m trying not to turn a few weeks off into a much longer injury because I got impatient.

surprising that more fighters don't realize that calling Jonah's bluff is the quickest way to get their name out there. and there's only going to be a limited time to do it before he reinvents himself again in a few months
>be me >Growing up sports were hard >Uncoordinated as shit >Can't wash dishes without soap ending up across the other side of the room >Can't throw paper in a trash can without it missing, and actually knocking out trash >Can think of countless times where my lack of coordination caused things to be worse >Grow up >Join school's lifting club >Get strong >Get the physique I've always wanted >Still uncoordinated >Get pissed off >Get into various sports vowing to become average >Play soccer >In 1 year, can now play pickup games, defend against failed D3 athletes, become main striker of my team, develop amazing game sense and finding gaps in opposing team >Literally just game-IQ mogging people rather than doing tricks to play >Get into volleyball >In a year, predict where ball's going to be >Make amazing passes to my setter >etc. I think that my lack of coordination made me focus so damn hard and try so hard that it actually raised my ceiling. I see so many people who, without even trying, are naturally better than me. They acquire skills faster, learn shit faster, but then never commit. I think even though I have a lower floor, I have a higher ceiling.
Hello my /xs/bros, I hope everyone has been having a rad summer. I'm here to bring a few updates on how our virtual divegrass team is coming along. The first order of business, here is a new crest I made for the team. Inspired by the New York Red Bulls FC crest, this keeps our iconic logo, and expands upon it, adding many of our extreme sports onto the crest. Let me know what you all think. Now onto our upcoming games. The 4cc Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies are coming up next month, and we have 2 games scheduled. September 13th vs /jp/ - Third match of the day. Also on that same day vs /pw/ - Final match of the day. Both of these games will be live managed, so look forward to live management autism. Following the friendlies, the Tag Team Cup 7 will be taking place at the end of September & beginning of October. We will be participating and tagging with our friends over at /tv/, to form /xstv/. This team will bring you the most extreme and insane shit you've seen on television. And finally, towards the end of October, the Autumn Babby Cup will officially be underway. We still have many projects in the works for our epic return, so we will keep this thread updated on announcements regarding the Tag Team Cup 7 and Autumn Babby Cup. As always, you're all more than welcome to share your feedback and opinions on how our team is looking. Whether it's the players on the team, or tactical suggestions, we're looking to improve and have a better /xs/ team.

Why did that dog Irakli have two protests during his match when others have only one? Where the fuck is the center in all his set-ups with Bogdan Stoica (c) ??
Is this a meme? Anyone try it? It is already too cold where I live to try it, but I was thinking maybe next summer I would buy one and try to foil some of the lakes
https://youtube.com/watch?v=Q1i1xBt9QKY I will explain to you how to win any fight you can think of. mma, ju jitsu, boxing, any 1v1 fights in a metal cage. You pick whatever traditional irl face to face fight in a cage you want and this method will work. The solution will always be the same. I saw a YouTube video of a woman “submitting” and “winning” against a male “marine” in ju jitsu. They were trying to portray her as a strong and skilled woman, but what does that mean? An intelligent human being would be able to solve any problems. That kind of a human would be able to survive no matter what kind of difficult situations she faces. How would you then go up against somebody who is so good at “fighting”? It’s very simple, but we first need to understand what ju jitsu is supposed to be in their delusional minds. You imagine this thing called a “sport” and you imagine a type of “sport” called “ju jitsu”. You imagine that it actually has some kind of a meaning. Then you imagine that these two people can only grab each other in certain ways and move in certain directions because there are rules like no dropping her on her head or stomping on her throat. Then you imagine that the triangle choke can only be finished like this and the armbar or the rear naked choke or whatever the fuck they imagine those made up positions are supposed to be can only do this and that. Then if the guy taps, the fight is over in your mentally ill head. It’s a game for mentally ill people. That should be clear. How could you then possibly win against a woman who can beat a man? You obviously come prepared. You come with knife or gun or whatever you want. You hide it, obviously, because you’re actually clever. Before the fight starts you distract her with something that makes her turn around and look away from you for a few seconds like pointing at the cage door or asking the referee a question, then pull out your gun or knife and shoot or stab her.
Who's looking forward to this year? Will be interesting to see whether the El Niño causes major problems or causes a polar collapse. I'm in Europe, things look optimistic for January onwards.

At the start of august I quit the gym because it was boring and it made me feel like even more of a depressed wage cuck, I had been going to the gym for like 5 years more or less, with much transformation (I was very scrawny and thin, almost anorexic) and I liked being buff even though I'm still kinda thin-buff. Now I'm doing muay thai 3x a week, I have no machines at home nor weights, but I want to keep a decent physique, what should I do? Also should I keep eating like a pig and take mass gainer?
Why aren't there more 'combat' sports involving man and animal? I'd gladly watch some UFC juicehead try to fight a clipped bull. Imagine, they're given an objective: >Mount for 30 seconds >Topple 3 times >Control horns for 1 minute Something to that effect.
Are mma/combat sport rashguards also good for diving? This year I got both into diving and muay thay, I know I still need a wetsuit but it gets very hot in the summer here so i could try just rashguard and swimsuit.
Is the dick-and-balls-twist the ultimate grappling move? It seems to effectively nullify all BJJ ninja-ery. >Full mount? Dick twist. >Half guard? Dick twist. >North-south? Dick twist. >Scarf-lock? Dick twist. >Tato-shio? Dick twist. You see my point. If a low blow in striking can pretty much disable an opponent for a period of time, wrenching on someone's jewels would get them to trying to fuck off from whatever dominant position they have.
